Yeah, the main reason I still use my hx stomp with one of my bands with this guitar is for the “poly pitch” so I can do drop half or drop whole step stuff (or even fake bass stuff sometimes). I hope they do update this sometimes so I won’t even need that!

@@ScottUhlMusic I hope you do a follow-up video in a few weeks or so focusing on how well you could dial in the tones you wanted. For instance, can it produce Pro tones indistinguishable from more expensive/Pro gear?
I’m quite happy with my tones and think they are pro tones. I’m literally gigging with it 3 times today alone hahaha. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on it from the sound guys I’ve worked with. They keep asking “what guitar is that?” I have messed with the distortion tone as well as putting the Les Paul as my bridge pickup too. Still dialing it in. But as a full time musician, this is now my main guitar. So in my opinion it gets pro tones for sure. Also, I do want to do a follow up video eventually 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic That's great to hear! I've been Subscribed to your Channel for some time, and appreciate your insights, expertise, and experience. It has helped me a lot in getting to understand my HX Stomp more thoroughly. I'm glad you're enjoying gigging that guitar and are able to take advantage of its impressive features. Looking forward to the follow-up video. 👍
I mostly play acoustic, but sometimes I do a bit of busking with my electric and a looper. I often use the Mighty Plug Pro for this and this guitar feels like the next logical step in the same direction. I mean the plug is so tiny, it could easily fit in another cavity in the guitar. I would love to see the next revisions of this guitar to have a proper user interface on the guitar. And I don't mean a touchscreen or stuff like that, but for example controls similar to the footswitch, just as buttons on the guitar itself. It would definitely get away from the very traditional looking control layout they're using right now, but I don't see any disadvantages to having more controls. I mean we already have guitars like the Jazzmaster with all these switches, so I would hope they'll be less conservative with the design in the future. Because then I would absolutely sell some of my stuff to replace it with this thing.
Thanks man! I’m glad you like the channel, and thanks for all the kind words 🤘 I still use this guitar as my main guitar, I just upgraded to the P800 and it’s awesome!!
You can leave the iPad at home. Great question! Once it’s programmed you don’t need the app anymore. Although if you do want to make tweaks at the gig, it’s worth having on your phone. It’s pretty funny to go “I need to adjust my guitar…. Let me just do that on the app really quick”
Hey Scott! Just discoered your channel and I'm loving it. Never seen so much quality content aimed at the working giggins musician. I have a question, does this guitar do a good acoustic emulation? If so, could you demo it eventually? Thanks!
Thank you! I appreciate it. And I haven’t used it for acoustic guitars, and I don’t believe it has an acoustic emulator in it. I use it as my main guitar though for my electric gigs. I love it
That's cool, I'm looking for a guitar that will let me do both electric and acoustic gigs (for fly dates) the acoustic sound doesn't have to perfect, but at least close to a piezo@@ScottUhlMusic
Scott there is an upgrade guitar called the P800 (p for professional) Some the grades are poplar instead of basswood, locking tuners, wilkensen bridge; upgraded pickups and a new blue color. If you can get your hands on one please review
Hi Scott, great presentation and description of this new guitar, but I didn't understand if it is connected to an amp though bluetooth and if not, where does the sound come from then
The sound comes out of the guitar 1/4” Jack. So plug that in just like you would a direct rig like an Axe FX or Helix (into a direct box or direct into a mixer). I use wireless and the wireless goes directly into my mixer. It’s pretty wild!
This is Innovation, Gibson are still stuck in '59, thank you Scott for switching me on to this I didn't know it was possible and as a function band player now I need it, and well done Mooer for pushing the envelope and making it easier to be a gigging guitarist. Scott all the output is from the guitar, so it's mono out only right, straight to the desk ? Could you run into a stereo chorus before the mixer in order to get a subtle stereo spread ? You were saying it has to be charged by USB, how long does it last 2 or 3 hours ? In the long term is the battery replaceable when 8t eventually dies out after multiple charges. Thanks a mill great video 👍🏻
If you went into an external pedal, sure you could get stereo. That’s how guitar works in general. It’s almost always mono out, and then pedals can do stereo fx. The battery life is over 8 hours if I remember correctly. I played 2 4 hour shows with it without problem. I don’t know about the replaceable battery.
@@ScottUhlMusic thanks Scott, oh I was was hoping with the headphone out which is genius I could use a stereo Y cable. Either way it's an amazing piece of guitar. Thanks for the review
I don't know why it's show "0A.Butter" instead of 0A.Clean. It's seem like they arrange every preset different from the factory setting and I don't use to it at all.
Great review. So thorough. Great presentation Scott. Thank you. You have answered all my questions on the App. You are probably aware now about the P800 pro version? I am definitely going to try one of these. Could be perfect for live playing with my covers band. Cheers from the Uk.
Excellent demo. I have one observation however; when headphones are plugged directly into the guitar no matter what I do nothing comes through them. Any suggestions?
Hi Scott. It's two weeks since you did this video and I saw there's a MOOER guitar for $450 or so that claims to do the same thing. I'd LOVE to see you do that one. I like MOOER pedals.
Hello everyone. I like the videos. Very personable and clearly explained. Thanks a lot for this. A while ago you introduced the Mooer P 800. Have you ever played this model P800 live at big gigs? Is this guitar suitable for big performances? Thanks so much. Andrew
I have 3 variax guitars that I use while playing with my two cover bands. This is pretty interesting for fly gigs since it might eliminate an amp processor (I use a Headrush). You can’t do anything with tuning, correct? And if you had to choose using only ONE guitar, would it be this or the Variax?
Correct, the pitch shift is pretty much useless on this one, which is very unfortunate. I have a variax and I have the GTRS. I use my GTRS guitar now. So I would chose this one. Especially for fly gigs. I’m actually currently fortunate to be playing music in the Bahamas right now and I brought this guitar. It’s definitely worth it IMO
I noticed straight away at about 6:00 and on, that the volume changed quite a bit as you went through the presets in lead and rhythm tones, some too soft some way on top. Did you program like that? That could be annoying in live situations even hurt your sound balance when using tracks, but can that be reset in the app? One more Q (have many more but..) You're using mainly a Tele model, can the models go from Tele to Gretsch to acoustic (and how's that patch really sound) and do they model as well as a Variax or at least close enuf? Thanks Scott your channel is golden.
You would just make adjustments as you are programming it. Whether you use an amp or a modeler, you just need to get the right Al balance of clean, distortion, and lead. This app allows you to do that 👍 Thanks for watching!
Awesome Review as always Scott, couple Q's 1. Does the pedal have tap tempo fucntion for delays? 2. Can the guitar do Tap Tempo by itself? 3. Does the Delay come with timing changes like dotted 8ths? Thanx for this!
Do you need a newer computer to do updates, or can you use only a phone and WiFi? Can you use all the effects while charging? I think the rep at NAMM said they may have a headless version coming? Thanks for posting this review
I have one of these. As with most modellers that I've tried I really only found one amp model that worked for me. That's enough though. I pretty much just use the Plexi model. I wasn't impressed with the reverb or modulations at all and the delay is ok I guess. However, it was great playing with my duo last weekend straight in, but I decided it would be even better if I also bring a delay/reverb pedal and just use the amp/cab/boost pedal models in the GTRS... Oh and the pickup emulations. I just set them to be CS 60s Strat and set them to be softer/warmer than the stock pickups. I also set the superknob to switch between stock and tone capture pickups. As a guitar I find it really nice to play and I was after a modernish Strat anyway, so the DSP stuff is a bonus for me. My conclusion is that I would use this with a full band as a regular guitar into my normal amp rig (My amp and pedal all go on a compact pedalboard anyway) and I can still use the alternative pickup tones. It'll also shift the pitch of my guitar down for certain songs in a pinch. For my duo and for other studio related work I'll use it as a guitar and amp, direct. I hope to get a video or two done before too long.
Nice, and yeah with any amp modelers there are a lot that aren’t useable, but as long as you find one or two. I was actually quite impressed with the ones in here personally!
@@ScottUhlMusic Actually, I do like several of the amp models to be clear, but I found the Plexi to be the only one that responded the way I liked when I put a boost/overdrive in front of it without getting too loud compared to the non-boosted preset. For recording there's loads of good tones in there. For live use I find it works if I'm able to keep it really simple. It's just so amazing that I can do my regular duo gig and I only have to carry my guitar case and maybe a small bag for a couple of spare cables, guitar stand or whatever. All the best Scott
@@ScottUhlMusic thank you for the answer. For the money it is okay. Have you tried C-Tuning and going to Standard E or lower to A from C. It could help. If it does not I wonder how to connect it with a Drop D-Pedal .
@@ScottUhlMusic I have a Shuriken 27 Scale length . The Drop-Stuff is awesome. But I have to admit I like the design of the Mooer- Guitar. It reminds me of Suhr-Guitars. A very refreshing headstock design.
Nice video, Scott. I wish this system could be sold separately, so we could install it in our favorite guitar. How about it? Regards from Rio ah...btw...you look like Adrian Smith's son. lol
Another Idea that they should do is invent switchable pickups......you could buy a combination of pickups and just pull the current pickups out of the guitar and put in any combination without doing any wiring.
Scott, what is the neck profile on the blue S800 you have? I just received a P801 (I think), that is the model with the roasted maple fingerboard. The neck profile is considerably different from the P800 I got (which I sent back because the neck was crooked). The S800 and P800 seem to be a C neck profile. The P801 (Mint Green and White on Amazon) I received has an asymmetrical U neck profile-much thicker (3mm at the crest, but asymmetrical) and square shouldered at the top side, rounded at the bottom side ("baseball bat").
I’m not sure what the differences between the 801 and 800 neck wise since I’ve only played the 800. I love my 800 and it is a workhorse for me now. I play to get the P series one 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic I'm pretty sure there's a difference between the P models labeled 800 and 801 beyond just the fingerboard-I'm pretty sure that the 800, with rosewood fingerboard, has a modern C neck profile, while the 801, with roasted maple fingerboard, has an asymmetrical U neck profile. The latter is much thicker-about 3mm at the middle of the neck, which is a substantial difference carried (most of) the way around (most of, because it's asymmetrical). Today I returned the P801 I received yesterday, because that U neck felt way too chunky for my hands. I got a P800 in the Blue Night color three weeks ago, and while the neck was crooked, I didn't note it being chunky, and so I don't think it was the U profile but the C. I've ordered a Tiffany Blue P800, which I will have on 5/21/23, so I'll be able to check that neck and know for certain if they're different (pretty sure they are). I'll make a note here when I know.
@@ScottUhlMusic Now that I have a P800 (rosewood fingerboard) in my hands: The neck is, I would say, a D shape, the shoulders much less pronounced than the U-shaped P801 neck (the roasted maple fingerboard). It's about 1mm thinner at the deepest point (middle of the width) at the 2nd fret than the P801. It is symmetrical, unlike the U neck on the P801, and the shoulders are curved from side to side. They have a little broader curve than a C neck, and unlike the asymmetrical U neck on the P801 there is no flat side coming off the fingerboard on the top side, and it's much less bulky all around. While its D shape is a touch thicker than the C neck shape, it is nowhere near as hand-filling as the U shape. 1mm less than the U shape all around the neck makes a lot of difference, especially with the pronounced flat expanse on the low-string side of the P801's neck. In sum, there is a significant shape and thickness difference between the two neck types on the P series models, the P800 vs the P801.
it's pretty impressive...after a while, you just get tired of hauling so much stuff to a gig...this "seems" to be a well thought-out solution to a lot of that...
I absolutely love the sounds. I’ve been extremely loyal to Helix/HX Stomp since they came out, but I’ve switched to using this pretty much exclusively now.
i hope you can help me out with a short advice. i bought mooer ge300 pedals and i have all effects there from mooer. does it make sense to buy a mooer guitar now with same or worse effects ?? thanks for your opinion
How does it work if you use a wah pedal (not auto-wah)? The wah needs to be somewhere upfront (before/after drives). But if I added a wah pedal 1st thing after the guitar, it would only enter the signal chain after the onboard effects, right? Hope you look into it & get back to us. Much appreciated if you did look into it. Cheers!
You would need a physical wah pedal since this doesn’t have an expression. But yeah the best way to do it would be after the processing, that would be the best way IMO. Hopefully in a future update they include an expression pedal to use with this system. I don’t need one, but I know a lot of people do want one 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic Don't know how a wah after effects and/or modulations & the preamp section is gonna sound. That'll be like plugging a wah into the FX loop.
Yeah wah before usually sounds better. But I don’t know how you could get a way into it any other way since it doesn’t have an fx loop. The auto wah on it is pretty decent and still useable imo.
Absolutely, it’s still my main guitar and I love it. This model specifically is my backup and I got the P800 which has a better guitar design but the same app/modeling
@ScottUhlMusic what a time to be alive 😁 I bought the Mooer Hornet amp recently, looks like it has similar "guts" to this. It's an amazing practice tool.
@@ScottUhlMusic once those lion batts go, if it's proprietary... you're kinda screwed... only thing really keeping me from pulling the trigger... had too many tech devices become paper weights after the proprietary batts die.
So again bass players dont get any looooove 😢 If this had midi as well, like GTRS/Jamstick/Yamaha silent acoustic and now you have it ALL! But bass players, they get nothing.. I wonder if I can just add this to another guitar, or a tele style guitar, Im not a strat kind of guy. How would you go out to front of house, and to your amp? I guess you need a ABY? Nobody said if the software can be used as a plug in in your DAW or if its stereo or just mono.
The P800 would be fantastic for a gigging musician if Mooer’s sound engine didn’t sound like 💩 Even their MRNS are subpar, especially the cleans and breakup tones. That’s sad since it’s such a useful concept in an instrument.

Thanks man, I appreciate that!
Well explained thanks
Great analysis! 😮 Thank you!
Thanks!
I’m…what…I’m so confused and blown away at the same time. This will open up so many opportunities for those who want to learn.
Yeah it’s amazing!
Sublime!
Once you configure the settings on the guitar do you need the ipad or can you leave it home
Scott there is an upgrade guitar called the P800 (p for professional)
Some the grades are poplar instead of basswood, locking tuners, wilkensen bridge; upgraded pickups and a new blue color. If you can get your hands on one please review
Oh interesting! I’m only seeing used ones. I do plan to upgrade a lot of mine here in the next few weeks, so hopefully it will be very similar 👍
Sir, any idea how to bring back the factory reset of every bank and presets?
I don’t know how to factory reset, no
I don't know why it's show "0A.Butter" instead of 0A.Clean.
Yup, and I plan to get a P800 once it’s out! Can’t wait for it 🤘
Excellent demo. I have one observation however; when headphones are plugged directly into the guitar no matter what I do nothing comes through them. Any suggestions?
Thanks! And it might be an impedance mismatch or something along those lines
Hi Scott. It's two weeks since you did this video and I saw there's a MOOER guitar for $450 or so that claims to do the same thing. I'd LOVE to see you do that one. I like MOOER pedals.
Really? Which guitar? MOOER makes the GTRS guitars.
Hello everyone. I like the videos. Very personable and clearly explained. Thanks a lot for this. A while ago you introduced the Mooer P 800. Have you ever played this model P800 live at big gigs? Is this guitar suitable for big performances? Thanks so much. Andrew
This is my main guitar I use now. I play with this guitar at 99% of my shows 🤘
@@ScottUhlMusic thank you very much. so are you satisfied? The sound is present and good for the shows. have a good time
I love it!
Hi Scott... Do they still sell/make the footswitch? Can't find it on Amazon...
Yup they do! I think TH-cam is weird about external links but I just checked and it’s still there
I have 3 variax guitars that I use while playing with my two cover bands.
Scott - how does the guitar play functionally? You know, neck quality and comfort, component quality, tuning stability, etc.
Get the newer model, the P800 series. Plays much better! But this one is still good… I just upgraded the tuning pegs and the bridge 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic Yes. I like the blue/black P800. The headless models are interesting too.... thx for all of your advice.
Can you connect the guitar to the app and then connect the app direct to a bluetooth speaker?
No. Bluetooth will always give latency with audio.
Nice video, would love to see you review the upgraded P800 😊
That's funny you mention that. I was literally just looking into that! hahaha
@@ScottUhlMusic awesome! They look really nice with stainless frets, etc. Cheers!
Awesome Review as always Scott, couple Q's
1. Does the pedal have tap tempo fucntion for delays?
2. Can the guitar do Tap Tempo by itself?
3. Does the Delay come with timing changes like dotted 8ths?

Now we just need a guitar like this with the addition of an integrated tuner, a wireless transmitter, and headphone amp for in-ears.. Right? :)
Do you need a newer computer to do updates, or can you use only a phone and WiFi? Can you use all the effects while charging? I think the rep at NAMM said they may have a headless version coming? Thanks for posting this review
You can update it with the app 🤘 and yup you definitely can use it while charging no problem. I’ve done that
Thx for sharing.Does it stay in tune when using the tremolo?
I've never been a tremolo guy, so I had it setup with a fixed bridge. So I'm honestly not sure since I've never had one for more than a day hahaha
@@ScottUhlMusic ok, thx
Some sounds are awesome. Is a pitch-shifter also available in the guitar? Or have I to buy a drop D-pedal? Are the sounds usable for Drop C or drop A?
The pitch shifting is unuseable unfortunately. I wish it was better. You can tune the guitar however you want to though 👍
Naturally changing the tuning should be fine, but not digitally. If you want to pitch shift, I would get a pedal for that
@@ScottUhlMusic but how to Connect it with the mooer System?
I have always wondered for years why guitar makers don't include pedal tech into the guitar itself.....here we are
Nice video, Scott.
I wish this system could be sold separately, so we could install it in our favorite guitar.
How about it?
Regards from Rio
ah...btw...you look like Adrian Smith's son.
lol
You can! I just did a video about it 😊 th-cam.com/video/I18cSWc2vI4/w-d-xo.html
Thanks, Scott.
I saw this video. The one I met your channel.
But is this Prime P1 from Mooer the system inside the GTRS guitar?
This is what I was talking about.
It’s basically the same thing. You use the P1 with whatever guitar you want, but the app is a little different 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic Ok. I knew this Prime P1. I wanted to install this 'smart pot' on my guitar.
:)
Another Idea that they should do is invent switchable pickups......you could buy a combination of pickups and just pull the current pickups out of the guitar and put in any combination without doing any wiring.
There is another guitar that does that! Cant remember the name. Samurai Guitarist did a video on it
The difference between the S800 and the S801 is just the neck. I had to compare both products side by side in Sweetwater to figure it out 😅😅😅
Fantastic review.
Do you still use this as your main guitar for gigs or is it lacking anything?
Yup, still the main one! I updated the locking turners and changed the bridge where the strings rest, but the rest is the same 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic wow amazing!
Please try to get UK affiliate links if possible so we can help out the channel.
Thanks! I need to figure out how to do that!
Is there a good acoustic guitar that does this? I've seen some around, but they don't seem great.
The acoustic on here is not great tbh.
@@ScottUhlMusic Yeah, I was thinking things like the Lava ME 3, but I want a nice acoustic and I'm not sure that is it.
That's all well and good, but what we're all really wondering is..........does it djent?
The most important question!!
it's pretty impressive...after a while, you just get tired of hauling so much stuff to a gig...this "seems" to be a well thought-out solution to a lot of that...
Yeah exactly! Just not having to bring amps anymore was huge. This is next level
Without the special button.
Is it a decent electric guitar
It definitely is, but the selling point is the “magic button”
So how do ypu like the sounds, how digitally cheap are they in your ears, compared to Helix etc?
I absolutely love the sounds. I’ve been extremely loyal to Helix/HX Stomp since they came out, but I’ve switched to using this pretty much exclusively now.
Question did it came with Charger?
It comes with the usb c cable yes 👍
i hope you can help me out with a short advice. i bought mooer ge300 pedals and i have all effects there from mooer. does it make sense to buy a mooer guitar now with same or worse effects ??
thanks for your opinion
I haven’t used the GE300 pedals, but I will say having EVERYTHING all in the guitar is so cool and helpful
I wish they sold just the hardware(tech) without having to buy a whole guitar. I'd love to put this in both my Les Pauls

That I don’t know, that’s strange
Yo, are you still using this guitar? How has it been doing after a year?
Absolutely, it’s still my main guitar and I love it. This model specifically is my backup and I got the P800 which has a better guitar design but the same app/modeling
Loving the memes 😂😂
Come for the tech tips, stay for the memes 😁
This is the way.
Whats the battery life like? This is wild haha

@ScottUhlMusic what a time to be alive 😁 I bought the Mooer Hornet amp recently, looks like it has similar "guts" to this. It's an amazing practice tool.
Can this be used with MIDI in any way?
No, I really wish it could though! Hopefully someday
Does it do alternate tunings like the Variax guitar?
No, I wish. Maybe someday in the future
Can you use the app on an iPhone?
Yup yup!
Hello, please tell me how in this guitar in the application from the cloud (downloads) to "get" already what was recorded on Looper?
I don’t believe you can save loops with backup or the cloud. Just presets and settings

That’s actually a good question… I’m not sure
@@ScottUhlMusic once those lion batts go, if it's proprietary... you're kinda screwed... only thing really keeping me from pulling the trigger... had too many tech devices become paper weights after the proprietary batts die.
Yup that’s true. That’s true for all rechargeable batteries. Really good question that I had not thought of
@@ScottUhlMusic I tried asking Mooer, but got no response.
Yes, the battery is replacable. You can purchase a replacement battery seperately and change it on-the-fly
The P800 would be fantastic for a gigging musician if Mooer’s sound engine didn’t sound like 💩
Even their MRNS are subpar, especially the cleans and breakup tones. That’s sad since it’s such a useful concept in an instrument.
I’m very happy with my tones. I have some of them uploaded to the cloud and plan to update with my newest ones too 👍
