I'd love to see a video or maybe a short series that goes in depth explaining what exactly various electronic components (resistors, capacitors, diodes, etc) actually *do* in the context of a pedal or amplifier and how it affects the sound we hear. Plenty of resources out there will tell you a capacitor stores charge, for example, and plenty more will tell you they can be used to make high or low pass filters. But it took me a shockingly long time to find anything that actually bothered explain *how* they can function as filters and *why* they're placed where they are in a circuit. I've been breadboarding trying to make some simple effects, and that kind of content would be super useful!
I have the P800 and the string tree on that model isn’t an issue. The guitar is awesome and plays great. My favorite part is being able to plug my headphones right into the input, with my Bluetooth pedal and app and come up with tons of song ideas with the drum’s synced to the looper, while my wife is sleeping in the next room. I have no regrets about buying the guitar except the color. I got the red one because it was $50 cheaper and included the pedal and the little amp. But the red one turned out to not be red. But at some angles it’s like a pinkish orange color, and at every other angle it’s dark pink! Everyone who has seen it says it’s pink, as they laugh at me for playing a pink guitar. But I have a solution coming soon. It will soon be the American flag. As I’m covering it with a skin! But other than that I have no complaints about the guitar! It’s become my favorite. And I have some expensive guitars! Selling my Godin if anyone’s interested? lol! Great review! Thank you!
A thoroughly honest review of a product. You covered all of the features and accessories, but you did not shy away from being critical of a major issue (and even offered a fix). Well done.
When I started playing in late 90's there was a device called "Pandora's Box" which was a small box with multi-effects and someone had it taped on his guitar body next to the bridge. I guess technology got better these days...
Much more interesting then I had expected. Nice to see Mooer taking care of their growing reputation by partnering with someone who can build guitars that aren't just "Guitar Shaped Objects".
Was supposed to buy this guitar just this morning but the local dealer said that the warehouse pulls them out when demand is low. But I already gave my name and number so that they could contact me once the guitar is available. Then, I searched for GTRS reviews again since it will be the closest thing to having one right now and this video was the only one who mentioned the string tree problem. I'm happy that I've watched this Video so that I could buy a string tree replacement and hopefully, I could get the same one or the closest one to what you're using. Funtwo's work around was with the bridge. He replaced it with a fix bridge instead of using the floating bridge. Since I play with a trem bar sometimes, I'll go with the String Tree replacement. Thank you!
I had one of those, "that riff is amazing and I know if from somewhere, but where?" for the Livin On A Prayer solo, and I gotta say, such a great phrase.
I'm always a little bit worried when reviewers don't show / tell the price of the products they are reveiwing, but was actually pleasantly surprised when I checked the link haha!

A built in fx rig on a guitar? This is some next level stuff. It would be cool if the pickups can change types like if a strat coil can sound like a lipstick etc.
Just a suggestion but it is always great to replace the string trees. The reason I say this is it is cheaper than having a professional bone nut installed (always a win, always worth the cost) and also to see if the tuners work fine. I have had a few guitars where tuning issues disappeared with a roller string tree or a Tusq replacement. It may also allow you to delay any headstock mods if tuners and the nut works so you can put that time, money, and effort in other parts of the guitar. Think about it, one part may fundamentally change how you mod that guitar depending if you spend money at the headstock vs pickups or electronics. Not sure about you but there is always a tipping point where once X amount of money has been spent, I don't want to put more money into that guitar vs getting another guitar or piece of gear. 🤔
The gtrs has been out for quite a while now and i believe theres a newer flashier "upgraded" model available. regardless, its still a fantastic travel guitar that closes the gap between electric and acoustic guitars! Great to finally see such a detailed review!

While some amplifiers certainly do contain noise gates, gates are a situational device and their effectiveness is dictated entirely by where the noise floor is being generated, where you sense it, and where the gating happens. I don't care much for the guitar as such but I'd be ready to buy it and take out the tech to install in another guitar. Perhaps there are kits like this to buy, does anyone know?
If you want to utilise the effects live then you certainly can. I was using the inbuilt FX in power amp mode, sending to my power amp and speaker arrangements. Then the cab can be mic'd as normal. Mixer mode should leave the cab IRs active if you want to send directly to Front Of House, then monitor your sound via the wedges. Alternatively, as GTRS have said above, you could turn it all off and go with your usual amp and effects.
Yes, I was using the built in effects into an amplifier throughout this video. Setting to power amp in the app only disables the cab sims so that you don't have a simulated speaker EQ going through a real speaker. All the other effects and amp simulations still function in this mode.
Like he was saying, it's all about binding. The strings move ever so slightly under the string trees and over the nut and bridge. If the string gets stuck somewhere it can cause it to bind which may lead to string breakage. The quick and dirty method is to take a mechanical pencil and write/color in on the bridge and nut slots. In my experience, with budget guitars it's usually the nut that's just a hot mess. Grabby plastic, not cut properly, too high. Pencil graphite will help, but a decent nut made out of bone or TUSQ or whatnot helps the most. The string tree in this video was wayyyyy to low however. String tress are also fairly cheap but are only really worth swapping if yours are causing binding.
I have a question! I recently purchased an Ibanez FL9 and the speed knob is broken. All of the other knobs work fine, but the pedal basically becomes a filter pedal. What could cause the speed knob the broken?
Most likely a disconnected wire. If the pot became loose at some point and was able to turn with the knob then it's very likely it severed the wires connecting it to the circuit board.
@@ScienceofLoud Thanks for the response. However, I looked inside the pedal to see if anything was loose, but I found nothing was loose or dangling around. I don’t know if it’s something to do with the circuit board itself, but either way I’m pretty sure I’m gonna need to get a refund. Shame though, it was a made in Japan version.
@@vulgarschool A broken connection may not be visually apparent, solder joints can fail with strain while looking fine. There is also the possibility the potentiometer itself is dead. In any case it will be a super easy fix for someone who knows what to look for. My FL9 was missing several parts internally when I got it, these things are repairable. I wouldn't give up on it that easily.
My GTRS S800 from Indiegogo came requiring quite a lot of work to get it playable, although at first glance it did look really good and well made (the neck especially). The tuners were not installed “inline” properly, the neck required a shim, and the side of the fretboard at the dusty end looked like they’d been “rolled” with a Stanley knife.

I was using the inbuilt FX in power amp mode, sending to my power amp and speaker arrangements. Then the cab can be mic'd as normal.
Mixer mode should leave the cab IRs active if you want to send directly to Front Of House, then monitor your sound via the wedges.
Alternatively, as GTRS have said above, you could turn it all off and go with your usual amp and effects.
from viking to baby. first the hair now the beard.
I didn’t understand something can i use the built in effects while it’s connected to an amp? Or the effects only work while using a headphone?
Yes, I was using the built in effects into an amplifier throughout this video.
Setting to power amp in the app only disables the cab sims so that you don't have a simulated speaker EQ going through a real speaker.
All the other effects and amp simulations still function in this mode.
Kinda neat
The Univox Effector crawled so that the Smart Guitar could run.
So can new string trees help tuning stability on cheaper strats? Or was this one only able to help because the original was so low?
@@curtis4812 how do you know if it’s the string tree that’s causing binding?

where can I order that string tree that you installed?

Will it work as a normal guitar???
I wouldn't give up on it that easily.
honestly id really like this if i had enough money
and also different body shape options, because i myself am a large fan of V shaped instruments
What brand
ame of the string tree

If it loads IRs I'm sold
My GTRS S800 from Indiegogo came requiring quite a lot of work to get it playable, although at first glance it did look really good and well made (the neck especially).
The tuners were not installed “inline” properly, the neck required a shim, and the side of the fretboard at the dusty end looked like they’d been “rolled” with a Stanley knife.
This is the exact information I needed. Definitely staying away and getting a schecter nick johnston instead
didn't Line-6 do that?
The big...black...knob. I see you.
It’s equally as you buy a Moore GE200 and a $300 squier
I'd rather buy a used MiM Fender Strat and pair it with a Mustang Micro. What happens when the electronics stop working and support is non existant?
your comment on string tree is wrong mines fine had a year …
It's not wrong, you just had a different experience.
Super Knob Mode!! 🤣🤣🤣
I live my life in Super Knob Mode if you believe other people about me :)
Im probably wicked late but, you cut your hair!
Oh look a guitar company “solving” problems that never existed. Thats new
That stock string tree was horrible. Way too much break angle. WTF were they thinking?? Otherwise looks like a sweet axe.
meh not a fan of everything in the guitar i dont want it to be a cellphone the less "smart stuff" the better and better options externally
only if it were headless with stainless steel frets, it would be PERFECT for practicality
The guitar is great but the app cloud is cack
It's ok...
meh...
Yet another hopeless gimmick. That effect unit built in the guitar could be a box plugged into the output jack of ANY guitar.
