    FIXED mine without parts,
I disassembled the controller and used 91% rubbing alcohol to clean the "conductive contacts" under the metal D-Pad plates.
Then I cleaned the metal contact plates.
put it back together and it worked superb!
I still gave the video a like for the parts listing.

“I still gave the video a like for the parts listing” ... so you were wise enough to think: “Maybe if I take this sticker with four metal plates on it off for cleaning, then clean under them as well, then replace them, that’ll fix my problem!”, then you spontaneously came to this guys video to post your win, where he ironically suggests the same approach? No, you’re just riding on his coat tails with caps lock, ya narc. Glad you got your controller workin though

@@italianbasegard Actually i was giving credit to the poster for having useful information in the video. I did however watch the video first and came to the conclusion I would try to clean mine and check the results. I found out it worked fine and thought I would share information with others that may choose this route to fix their controller. THE CAPS may have been there to grab the attention of
Someone needing a fixed controller but didn't have the funds to expend on parts.

If you D-Pad doesn't always register clicks, put your mouth over your d-pad and blow hard.
Bit of random post but I'm putting this out there so that it is easy for people to find in the future because i found the information hidden in the comment section of a youtube video so credit for this fix goes to "Nerd Strangler."
If you're D-Pad is not registering without you pressing really hard, try forming a seal over the d-pad with your mouth and blowing as hard as you can into it. It sound a bit weird and feels like a breathalyser test because the controller obviously isn't vacuum sealed.
The reason for this is apparently a design fault where the controller uses carbon coated contacts for the metal switches (Carbon coated contacts are meant for rubber switches apparently) so the metal switches are grinding the carbon into dust and preventing electricity from conducting between the metal switches and the contact, therefore causing the d-pad to fail to register button presses.
By blowing into the d-pad (if this is the problem you have) you should be able to clear the dust out from under the switches allowing the contacts to register properly again.

My controller was "for parts" until I saw this video. Thanks for showing the solution and a cheap fix. Saved a few dollars and got my D-Pad twerking just by peeling the original and cleaning the board and contacts as per TheTubejunky's comment below. It's Miller time!
For anyone else attempting this, it is a major pain in the fudge chucker to get that board out without desoldering, even worse to reassemble. Tape your rumble packs so they aren't dangling around while you're trying to work. Good life advice in general.

Would have been nice if they designed the controller to have membrane buttons under the dpad like every other controller ever made. And also those plastic panels on the bottom, the tabs always break for me and the panels make a squeaky plastic noise with normal use. Third individual problem I have with the xbox one controller is the black foam pads on the bottom shell to make the triggers quiet (for me) get worn out. The xbox one controller from my two experiences with the original black and the slim white definitely aren't built as well as the 360 controllers.

Yea I never understood why they went over to tactile switches even other consoles and aftermarket controllers use this method as well, I use the d pad for beatemups especially the retro ones and although the newer dpads get special moves out just fine it feels weird having the d pad clicking away

I found IPA (not the tasty beer kind) good for cleaning lightly soiled boards. For the nasty sticky mess from spilt high sugar/caffeinated soft drinks then acetone is more effective. Or acetone based nail polish remover - if you're cheap like me. I've had more than one controller where the liquid got under the d-pad sticker and coated the carbon in gunk making the d-pad position not work.

Took TheOneAndOnly’s advice, cleaned the D-pad, and layered three pieces of electrical tape on the problem area (D-Up).
Works perfectly! Although I did accidentally rip out the cables for the left rumble motor during the process… Time to get to soldering!

      Update 2 years later:
I had to throw out this Xbox One controller after attempting to solder because I ripped out one of the soldering pads.

I didn't even know this was a replaceable part. At least as whole a "unit" as it is. I have a controller that the right on the D-Pad needed more "oomph" to register and all I did was cut to size a couple layers of electric tape. Nice to know about these replacements for future reference.

Microsoft should have used regular rubber contacts. Even the Xbox 360's pad wasn't as bad as the Xbox One's and that's saying something. I should not have to buy replacement parts for a game controller I've only had for about 2 years and yet here I am, ordering those metal dome switches.

    • @ImTheKingOfHyrule
      @ImTheKingOfHyrule 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

And to make things even more frustrating, a few months after fixing the pad it started having double click problems again. I even shaved the insulation off of the contacts and added little dabs of solder in a vain attempt to improve the contact, and it only fixed the problem temporarily. For any game that requires precise timed inputs the Xbox One's D-pad is awful because you never know when it's going to skip or repeat an input.
