im with @corfecastle here - he's a busted flush, his ego is not helping. if he wasnt english would you guys be saying this ? he's been averaging 3 out of 10 performances at the tigers for the last two years plus.
It has been rumoured that South Sydney are somewhat interested in JB. I recon that could be a good move for him. I think John needs a strong coach right now. If that is the case, I would think Wayne Bennett would put him straight into reserve grade and wait and see whether John can sort his head out. I tend to agree with Wayne, John Bateman still has something to offer, IF he can adjust his attitude. John needs to rekindle a healthy hunger for the game. Hopefully, before he gets too old to play. Just my 2c. Cheers from Oz.....
I think Bateman is a great player. He has been playing through lots of pain. I reckon give him some space to preserve his mental health. He is a professional football player, and he reaps what he sows.
Bateman is still a very effective player in winter or wet weather conditions which serve as an equalizer. But you put him on a dry track and he's easy pickings for players with pace and good footwork. As for his attitude. I think it's first class. The problem at the Tigers is the whole operation is a dumpster fire. I think he got fed up putting a stint in whilst others were clowning the coach and thought, "Why bother?"
First class attitude? He has a sook about senior players being held to a higher standard then rookies and interprets that as rookies getting special treatment. Then he pisses off to superleague for the rest of the year.
@@eb0r If it's a choice between believing Bateman and the perpetual dumpster fire which is the Tigers I'll take Bateman every time. They were trash before he arrived and they'll be trash after he's gone.
@deaddropholiday it isn't a case of "which side should you believe?", those were Batemans comments. He was also one of the worst players in a wooden spoon dumpster fire of a team. You have incredibly low standards for what constitutes a first class attitude.
@@eb0r I could have told you Jon Bateman was finished as a top line player in 2020. He suffered ankle and shoulder injuries at Canberra with typical Aussie Third World surgery botching the reco (same as what happened with Sammy). He somehow managed to blag a top contract out of Wigan (who didn't do their homework) and he came back a shell of himself. Jon was being lit up by smaller guys like James Bentley regularly in SL. Everybody figured he would see out his contract at Wigan and that would be that. Then out of nowhere the Tigers step in with an insane bid for a player who wasn't worth a fraction of the money they were offering. EVERYBODY knew this. Everybody except the world's worst run RL outfit. A team which now owns the Wooden Spoon. The responsibility for that mess is entirely on ownership and the coach. Whilst Bateman's body is shot to pieces very few established pros have ever questioned his courage, commitment or willingness to die for the cause. The fact that he physically wasn't up to the task isn't on him. Nobody forced the Tigers to sign him. But Jon was still putting his body on the line despite being completely outgunned by bigger, more explosive and younger players. All I know is that when he played the internationals against Tonga on wet, slow pitches where his physical shortcomings weren't as much of a problem he was the best player on the pitch. And there were a hell of a lot of big names out there.
@@deaddropholiday Ok so he's injured, overpaid and plays good in the rain. None of what you've written there backs up your point about his attitude, when his actions speak differently.
Ok he’s not a great player he’s not bad but he’s not great he had 1 good season in the NRL 1 he didn’t Rip it up for a few years….his idea of his worth and status is inflated beyond belief, he came back to Wigan and was trash he is without doubt the greediest player in the NRL/SL
John should never have left Wigan. He is a good player but he’s not getting any younger. Best days are behind him.

Thanks for the comment Graeme and thanks for watching. We have heard today that the Souths move could be off so who knows where next.
Who in Superleague can afford the salary he would expect?
John Bateman signed with Souths yet ??

Was great at the raiders but hasnt been at that level in the nrl since then

Cracker! New sub. Much love, lads
Welcome aboard!
Bateman should be in charge of the players union 😂

Bateman hasn't been good since his first stint at Canberra.
Bateman was a gun at the Raiders and delivered quality play and was consistent.

His club form has been underwhelming, but, he played well in the 🏴 Samoa series in my opinion!
Thought he had a steady International series against Samoa. He didnt set the world alight but didn't do much wrong.
He’s a master at standing in just the right place to not get the ball in attack 👍
At this rate he will end up at Bradford
😆
