It's just what we do when our babies get hurt in our traditional societies. We smack the thing that hurt them...this is so the baby's self confidence is not damaged. All the babies I have observed when I do this, watch me carefully and look very pleased and confident and happy after. Amazing. They truly know the best ways of upbringing.

Absolutely adorable and FANTASTIC footage to witness, if like myself, you study the behaviour and *Psychology* of animals, especially mother & baby (& extended family..related and non related scenarios)........ *_but_* , @ 1:14, I thought beautiful Mumma was going to end up in the same predicament!! Pheww!! * Maybe that lower tyre should be raised a little bit, so the tiny ones can still reach it, but not get caught in it. I guess it is a good teaching tool, but at a cost, to an Ellie..in the future ?? 😕 Mumma would've had a MUCH harder time if her foot ended up _wedged_ in too. I wouldn't be thinking this so much, if they weren't already 'rescued' and retired ellies, but most who have already been traumatised by being permanently tethered by the ankle for (up to many DECADES!) ...once before, then it could retraumatise them, all over again. 😕 It's definitely a good teaching tool (for the babies, learning coordination and reflexes) and new mothers.. but for those who were once 'permantly' tethered..and then abused 😭.. I don't feel this is worth the possible chance of it happening in the first place (Prevention is ALWAYS better than a 'cure', that may not even be possible for some)... So, I'm really conflicted in whether they should have the low tyre there, after seeing this. 😟 ***Anyone else here, have this thought..even a wee bit, or is it just me?? 💖From Melbourne, Australia

I know this is a fabulous sanctuary and no short of love and care but I think those tire arrangements are potentially dangerous. It's not worth the risk of a fracture.
