    I don’t think it’s any secret that Albus Dumbledore is arguably the greatest wizard of the age. He’s proved it time and time again. Despite being one of the most popular Harry Potter characters, always trying to protect harry, leading the order of the phoenix in the fight against Voldemort and ultimately giving his life in order to help snape gain the dark lords trust, Dumbledore didn’t exactly have a squeaky clean reputation. He actually has quite a dark past, something he’s ashamed off and something that haunts him. Dumbledore has done some awful things in his time both past and present and we’re going to look at them today. Here’s 5 truly awful things Dumbledore has done.

    I like that Dumbledore plays with the limits of morality. He is an extremely powerful wizard that understand the intricacies of magic, he knows wizards were put on earth to face the most extreme forms of evil. And that in order to be powerful enough to succeed against darkness, all wizards must be prepared for anything. Including death. Is not that he wants to endanger students on purpose, it's just that he knows that no matter who you are or when, dark magic is right around the corner. He knows that overprotecting the students is not going to help them win the permanent war of good against evil.

      @eugenebelford9087 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@lahavzaken6638 I have to correct myself about stating "he KNEW". Correctly, Dumbledor must have had at least strong doubts. Doubts - first and forehand! - to imprision anybody without trial. And Sirius wasn't just "anybody". He was a prominent member of Dumbledor's own resistance. A friend of the Potters.
      And look at how by contrast he treated Snape, who had been a Deatheater. So, despite all the influence he could wield, he didn't even lift so much as a finger, not even trying to investigate the "why should Sirius suddenly do this?".
      Even Bellatrix Lestrange got a trial!
      Which ends with the same evil: It did fit with his own plans that Sirius wasn't around and thus he was perfectly fine with him being in constant torture at Azkaban.

    • @lemonzest6988
      @lemonzest6988 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      I'm more upset that he let Sirius live in hiding rather than use Veritaserum to prove his innocence and secure his release. Ultimately, being forced into hiding is what killed him. If he'd lived in the open, he would constantly contact Harry without subterfuge or worry of discovery, so Harry would know his godfather was okay. He'd probably have opened that package way sooner since Sirius showing up to help wouldn't have any severe consequences. Therefore he would have simply contacted him with the mirror and gone: Hey, glad you're okay, had a nightmare you were kidnapped and I panicked a little.
      Sirius: Oh, I'm sorry. I'll help you fact check all your dreams so you don't get tricked into a trap.
      Harry: Thanks. See you this summer after I visit the Dursleys.
      Sirius: Okay. Remember, the moment the week ends I'm coming to get you out of that rathole. The reason is purely selfish of Dumbledore. He knew Sirius would reject his plan vehemently so he made sure he wouldn't be in a position to interfere. He says himself: I am the one who got Sirius killed. Because by letting him be blamed for a crime he didn't commit led to the panic Harry felt and got him killed. But instead of explaining this to Harry, he just says: 'Oh, I shouldn't have kept him cooped up' which in no way reassured Harry just so he wouldn't lose Harry's trust. In the end, Dumbledore didn't deserve Harry's faith.

    After so many years of working together Albus and Severus had become real friends. Albus was probably the only friend Snape had and the only other person he came to care about after Lily. Imagine having to kill your only remaining friend and Ally... The ONLY person that truly knows and understands you fully.... And all the time, having to hide it and having to hide how you feel and what you think and on top of everything else, put a performance for the bad guys.... Snape had a tragic fate which he embraced at the end just for the faintest hope of redemption. In the hope that he'd forgive himself and be relieved of the guilt of lily's death that he had unintentionally caused....

      Indeed. The Snape haters who can't get past the surface also miss the fact that Snape is the only character in the books who has a full redemption arc that the reader actually gets to see. We only really see James Potter before his (you have a lot of his friends _say_ he was good, but you never actually _see_ it in action), and Dumbledore after, but you see Snape at his worst, at his best, and how he got to the latter.

Yes, he'd have grown up to kill people, but like most serial killers, he'd eventually have either been imprisoned or killed. Instead, he went on to commit mass murder for nearly a century. Even magical, he could have been stopped sooner if he'd informed his order of Voldemort's true identity. He knew Voldemort was Tom Riddle, but told no one. There's a strong case for his lack of care about his students education being on the list. Not only did he willingly employ Lockhart as the DADA teacher the year after he saw Voldemort' first attempt of returning but he also couldn't find a new DADA teacher in the fifth year meaning Umbridge had to step in despite being the leader of his own Dark arts defence group, having a very suitable professor in the building in Snape or being able to teach the subject himself (A member of the order would have made more sense due to the curse on the position). I know it could all have been part of his plan to teach Harry lessons for his eventual fight with Voldemort but the lack of consideration shown in the books and movies about the other students education and how it would effect their future is just awful

      He actually took advantage of the curse in the DADA to expose Lockhart as a fraud. He did even say: "There's plenty to be learnt even from a bad teacher. Like what not to do, or how not to be"
      He wasn't going to hire Snape because of the curse, he needed Snape. That's why he waited till book 6 to do it

If he knew Snape held the position I doubt he would want him to lose it after just 1 year and it could also have helped Dumbledores side because he could have used those lessons to teach things that he knew they would be coming up against in the future. Similar to the Lockhart situation I get he was teaching Harry a lesson about how authority can work against you but to me the fact nearly the entire ministry was trying to drag Harrys name through the mud would have done that

    One thing Dumbledore did wrong was ignoring young Tom Riddle. While there was the war with Grindelwald, and World War II going on, honestly... placing a magically powerful orphan with a loving family should have been a priority. Instead, he took the word of a xenophobic, frightened, drunken woman who ran the orphanage that Tom was cruel.
    And maybe he was. But the fact is, he was angry, bullied, and frightened. Dumbledore's decision to leave him in the orphanage, enforcing that no one was truly looking out for Tom but Tom himself, was truly awful. Instead, Dumbledore could have prevented the boy from deciding to use all his power to hurt others.
    Dumbledore's immediate reaction to Tom's stealing of trophies was to frighten and punish the boy. He could just as easily been patient, showed him care, and told him that his behavior was wrong. He could have told Tom that there was a different, better way to use his talents. He could have encouraged him in all sorts of ways. Instead, Dumbledore kept a wary eye on an eleven-year-old boy, consigning him to the trash heap of all evil.
    This was another terrible wrong done by Dumbledore.

      @salazarslytherin6575 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s actually a really good point
      I think Tom Riddle became the way he became because of a few reasons
      Firstly he was heavily mistreated because of his magical abilities
      Secondly he grew up in an orphanage where nobody cared about him
      Thirdly he was still a child when the Second World War was going on and so more than likely lived through the blitz of London because being in an orphanage it is more than likely that he wasn’t evacuated to the country like most other children were
      Fourth when he did finally make it to Hogwarts again nobody cared about him and nobody bothered to show him a better way to use his magic instead keeping a close watch on him because they deemed him evil
      I also strongly believe that it wasn’t the love potion that made Tom unable to feel love I think it’s because practically from the moment he was born onwards nobody bothered to show him love or affection and at Hogwarts have any real friends but just people who were close to him normally for their own selfish reasons and I think that’s what made Tom become Lord Voldemort
      At least Harry had the help of the Weaslies during his summer holidays Tom had no one and I think if Dumbledore had actually tried to get him out of the orphanage and into a decent wizarding Family after being accepted at Hogwarts then maybe he would’ve turned out a very different person
      I do also fault Dumbledore for the rise of Lord Voldemort because he knew the circumstances that Tom Riddle was in and still chose to do nothing about it

  • @ClassicHorrorCustoms
    @ClassicHorrorCustoms 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So here's how I see it..
    Snapes soul was already tarnished because you don't become the 2nd hand man to Voldemort by not doing some dark things to people. I mean the guys signature spell AS A STUDENT AT HOGWARTS was septum sempra a spell worse than the killing curse that causes the victim to bleed to death. Also it's easy to say Dumbledore could have used protective magic for Harry and put him with a different family but at the time after so many deaths in the order and Voldemort finally destroyed by the rebounding killing curse as a result of Lilys love protection it was safe to assume that Dumbledore figured the best way to keep Harry alive was to double down on the spell that saved him from death. He did try to help Harry by sending Petunia a letter saying "remember your promise" and even called them out for their abusive ways infront of Harry when he visited their home in book 6. As for him wanting to take over the world even Hermione chalks that up to him being a 17 year old kid whose mother had just died and he had all of this responsibility thrusted on him. The only excuse I can make for the stone being at Hogwarts is that had it fallen into the wrong hands it could have created another dark wizard threatening the world, that and Nicholas flamell was partners with Dumbledore so he may have been the only one Dumbledore trusted. Also Dumbledore could have figured that Voldemort wouldn't come to Hogwarts originally because Dumbledore was the only person Voldemort was afraid of. As for Dumbledore keeping the school open I got nothing, maybe I have to rewatch Dumbledores big plan from the super Carlin Brothers to gather more information but as of now I have zero

    My understanding about how Dumbledore viewed Harry is that Harry was supposed to be raised as a sacrificial lamb, this was Dumbledore's plan after chamber of secrets and the discovery of voldemort's horacuxes and with it the idea that Harry was one of them(I believe the first year was spent making sure Harry wasn't actually a dark wizard, I mean everybody was thinking it) but Dumbledore very quickly grew attached to Harry and was torn between wanting Harry to have a normal life and ominously the greater good of The wizarding world. Knowing full well he has to choose the greater good, Harry has to die. Then Voldemort used Harry's blood in the process of making himself a new body which extended his mother's protection meaning Harry may have a way to survive. Which explains dumbledore's small smile of victory when Harry tells him.
    Dumbledore's a complex character

    I am not quite sure that placing H.P. under the Dursleys' "care" was necessarily an evil thing. Yes, from a muggle/ conventional perspective they should be investigated and dealt with in a court of law; IMO, they clearly offended their duties as caregivers.
    That said though, from a wizarding perspective and with the aim of protecting him until he could enter Hogwarts, it might actually have been the smart thing to do.
    I mean, look how everybody reacted when he first took the train to Hogwarts and "the wizarding world" immediately noticed the mark on his forehead. That alone would have ruled out having him raised inside the wizarding community. It had to be the anonymity of the muggle masses.
    In their mistreatment of H.P., the Dursleys factually hid him away. And - having to option to go toe-to-toe with his oppressors, he inadvertly learned how to be resourceful and make the best out of limited resources. Which was exactly what was needed when a teenager/ young adult is destined to stand against forces superior to him (he was not exactly Anakin or Luke or Leia ... a "Chosen of the Force (or in this case Wizardry)" in terms of raw magical power).
    One should also remember that at the time of his birth/ early childhood years there were still Deatheaters on the loose.
    I tend to look at it in the way that is was maybe the least appalling option.

    The fact Malfoy was not a killer made things interesting because Voldemort didn’t know that Malfoy disarmed Dumbledore saving many lives.
    I think you overestimate Dumbledore.
    If he could use protective spells to protect Harry Potter he would have prevented Grindelwald from killing his Sister.
    Harry had to stay at the Dursley’s for his safety.

    He did not raise Harry to die. For all the time spent over analyzing dialogue. This but seems to always be taken at face value. Dumbledore says Harry has to die. But he knew that wasn’t true. Harry just needed to believe he had to die. That’s talked about in Harry’s near death chapter. So Dumbledore helped raise Harry to be the kind of person that would be willing to sacrifice himself, so that, in fact, he wouldn’t actually have to.

    Now I can't explain this properly but just search: How Did Harry Potter survive Voldemorts killing curse in the dark forest.
    And here is my explanation: (I know...You can't understand) 😆
    Dumbledore left Harry to the Durley's because they are his only living family. And remember when Harry actually survived the killing curse not ones, but 2 times? . We all know it is because of Lily's love...The most powerful protection. And because Petunia and Lily share the same blood, and that Petunia actually loved Lily, I guess that's why Dumbledore left Harry there...To keep Harry protected. Now it isn't obvious to spot that just search it😭.
    Why is this so hard to explain😭

But Harry had to give his life willingly in order for it to work. He is a mastermind, the smartest guy in the Wizarding world and the best wizard that ever wandered the earth to this point

    #5 If he hadn't move the stone to Hogwarts then Quirrell would've gotten it and Voldemort would've returned early. Closing Hogwarts would deprived the kids of their magical education for not everyone can do homeschooling. Plus take school shootings, u don't close the place down after that. Those of u who were there within ur own terrible events, I apologies in advanced if this brings up bad memories. Just proving a point. And the Triwizard Tournament, it's not just him but all those in charged that should've made it safer. #4 He must've thought that sending 2 hybrids of giants and mages would show a symbol of tolerance and acceptances. #2 Being wise and almost all known it would seem. Dumbledore must've know because of the prophecy that only Voldemort could destroy the horcux in Harry and nothing else. After all, when Harry was "mark" as his equal (the lightning bolt scar), the 2 were bound by fate, set in stone, thus u could only go through and work with it instead of against it. The Dursleys, its all part of Lily's *Sacrificial Protection* aside from Voldemort can't touch or harm him, when Petunia took him in regardless, she sealed it up for Harry to *ALWAYS* b safe from harm. #1 Another reason I think is to save Draco as Albus truly cares for all his students. He knew that Voldemort truly wanted to kill Draco as further punishment on the Malfoy family, he was set up to intentionally fail since Draco was no killer. So having Snape make the Unbreakable Vow to protect him and do the job would save his student.
