- Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore. More specifically- we’re going to discuss his fame in a pre-Harry Potter era- a time when Albus Dumbledore wasn’t yet Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards, or Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot. I’m talking PRE 1945- that is, BEFORE Dumbledore’s FAMOUS defeat of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald- as that event undeniably launched Dumbledore in to considerable fame.
Dumbledore touched the lives of many people during his LONG LONG life, and by the time he passed away at the staggering age of 150, his network was immense- as was his celebrated status in the wizarding world.
But in the first Fantastic Beasts film- Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them- we see Dumbledore in quite a different light. Much younger, devoid of his signature white beard, wearing a totally different outfit than what we’re accustomed to, and just- different overall (different actor aside).
And it’s THIS Dumbledore that intrigues me more than ever, this 1926 version of Dumbledore- because we know so little about him and his place in the wizarding world.

Did you mean to say 115? Not 150…
I'm curious to see if the 12 uses of Dragons Blood, for which Albus was famous, could have a part to play in destroying the blood pact Between Albus and Grindelwald.
He died at 115, not 150. But even 150 is not staggering for a wizard, given that his predecessor Armando Dippet lived beyond 350 years.
I think I read somewhere that on average wizards live twice as long as muggles, so around 160. Maybe Dippet was meddling with Philosopher's Stone like Flamel etc.

@@emankcin1701 the oldest wizard was 755 without any known knowledge of him possessing philosopher's stone or horcrux. He was even older than Flammel himself and in much much better shape. So it could very well be ol natural
I have just finished reading the Fantastic Beasts books and had finished Harry Potter a long time ago. Dumbledore is a great character!

But when they say “He was offered the position of minister multiple times”, by whom? Who appoints a minister? It wasn’t based on elections?
I wonder what event made Dumbledore say that he could not be trusted with power. Anyone got any ideas?
His plans for with Grindelwald to take over for the greater good lead him to that conclusion.
The death of his sister and the guilt that he didn't know if his wand caused her death or not caused him to step back and see that power wasn't worth it, also his greed for power shows through when he put the ring horocrux on and how it caused him harm due to that greed

Yes, 116 years. He had obviously just not turned 116 yet, so was still 115. That's how birthdays work.

If Dumbledore was born in 1881 and died in 1997, he certainly lived a long life, but not quite 150 years...

@@davidkennedy8929 no no, in philosopher's stone his age was stated to be 150....when he was 111.
My thoughts exactly if Dumbledore had been at the age of 150 he would have died in 2032 and Harry Ron and Hermione would have been about 52
Dumbledore’s relationship with Grindelwald 💙 is what makes him an amazing man and person we see that everyone like albus has a dark and dangerous side it makes more fun and interesting to watch 🔥
Hogwarts Express questions- was there a specific person that drove it? Or did it drive by magic? Who else (adult wise) was on the train besides the trolley lady? How many times per school year did it travel? There is definitely a Christmas break, was there a Spring break? Was the train used to transport the students back to King’s Station?
Who represents the greatest threat to our cause?

Video idea: why was Harry unable to use the Cruciatus curse on Bellatrix, but he was able to use it on the Carrow that spat on McGonagall? I thought the death of Sirius would be a more serious motive for Harry to use the curse correctly.
he couldn’t use the cruciatus curse on bellatrix because he was doing it out of anger, he didn’t truly mean it because he was blinded by rage. it worked on the carrows because he didn’t feel pure rage at that point. he had a clear mind and knew what he was doing. however, it wasn’t as effective as it could have been because he wasn’t evil enough to do it completely aggressively. hopefully i’ve explained it alright, otherwise there’s a page on harry potter wiki that explains it pretty well.

Okay here’s an idea: what did mental health look like in the wizarding world? I looked it up on the internet and didn’t get any results at all for how mental health is treated and I remember nothing being mentioned in the books about it rlly
Edit: i actually remember in Order of the Phoenix ( the book) the weasleys were visiting Arthur in St Mungo’s and Harry saw Neville’s parents and learned what happened to them. I believe they were in a wing of St Mungo’s that cared for people who needed caring for, possibly having to do with mental health? I’d love to learn more about it tho

I didn't know Dumbledore had a sister or brother. Along with being treated differently because his own father crimes. Along with the fame, fortune, achievement and honor he obtained during his early years as a child, teenager and young adult.
I understand the rest, but you weren’t aware he had a sister or brother? Even if you didn’t read the books, both of them appear in The Deathly Hallows part 2 in an important scene.
First of all. Dumbledor, Richard Harris, was the best in the films. Michael Gambon was the worst. Don't use him as the older Dumbledor. He never was. Especially the fourth movie. Gambon was never likable or charming like Harris. I heard Gambon didn't read the books at first. He came across as arrogant and haughty, like the actor.
You do know half the actors had never read the books? And that was the directors fault. The actor has very little say in how their character is written. Do you think actors turn up to set and say the lines in any way they want?

@@Ruthie888 it's not the actors job to write the characters like the book version, it's the directors. And the director failed because he thought the goblet of fire was boring and didn't even finish reading it

So Dumbledore died at 150 when he died at 115? Cause the math doesn’t add up, unless he spent time in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he’s 115 when he died, not 150

Dumbledore planned to die and was fully prepared to die to protect snape and Malfoy from Voldemort so shouldn’t both of them be protected from Voldemort?
Calling it now- Dumbledore wins using Expiliarimus to tie it back to Harry beating Voldermort with it.
Would make sense, isn’t this the Duell were he wins the elder wand?

And yes u now that j.k has sad in an interview that he was 150 but afterwords she said he was 115 and stop making that brit acsent we all now you are American we watched the star wars theory
