- Quarry Rock Archery ASA Shoot
In this video I shoot my first ASA archery style scoring course. I shot at the know 50 distance With my Mathews V3X. My hunting Rig. It was a fun day that was a new and fun experience as a new shooter getting used to shooting at an idea of a target and not a particular point.
Thanks for watching.!
There is a serious tendency to drift to the Downhill side of a Cross slope shot, usually worth leaning into the hill (or aiming on the uphill side, leaning in to the hill is more reliable, you tend to centre the bubble then drift off while aiming)
Shoot longer than you would in competition, it really helps you to be comfortable when you shoot the closer competition targets. If you ever have to do very close targets make sure you have checked the sight marks (and practice them a little), as you get very close the marks tend to change very quickly and missing "poke it with a stick" shots is frustrating and giving away "Free points !"
It is also probably worth putting some pressure into the practice to raise the nerves to "simulate" competition !
oh yeah for sure for sure!
Dude agreed. All of these points sound super solid to me.
Most of them are from someone elses TH-cam, a few are from 30 plus years of F Ups. Like always practice the short ones and always have sight marks for the short one. Bunnies are a useful practice tool and Missing "Cant miss shots !" Because you stuffed up is always infinitely annoying ! Which has a tendency to carry over onto subsequent shots because you are still annoyed and unfocused !
I need to try that course, another new experience...looks like a good challenge.
It was fun! They say he changes it season to season but over all it was very fun
Are you local to TN?
Yes, I am.
@@fb1453 dude nice! Hit me up if you ever go to the course.

It doesn't matter what his Rangefinder says, Your sight needs to be set to Your Rangefinder (it is often worth pinging the target 2 or 3 times just to be sure ! Especially when there is nearby foliage etc !)
The same is true of Unmarked your sight needs to be set to your perception of range (in my experience it is almost impossible to reliably adjust the perception all I have ever reliably managed is to make myself a bit more consistent !)
Alwasy for sure for sure! I only trust my rangefinder when on the spot. What range finder do you use? What do you mean by unmarked sight?
Currently have an ancient Nikon Bowhunter (only ranges to 100 but still reliable to 100), sometime soon will probably get a Hawke Endurance 1500
I'm only allowed to use a rangefinder for practice, none of the societies that I shoot allow there use in comp. Most of my comps are Unmarked, sometimes with shots past 100.
@@colingregory7464 dude if it works it works. That's all that matters!
@@colingregory7464 dude that's crazy to me.
So you tell me please. Why is there such a pride in that category? I'm new so forgive me. I have ideas as to why I think that is. But I want to hear more from someone that's been doing it awhile.
Number #10 I believe must be the bubble because of the declined terrain shooting to the left
Thanks for the advice I’ll have to look into that for sure.
You running a lens? Asa don't have a pro hunter class. Pro class is now 60yds starting 2025. To be competitive in pro class you will want to shoot consistent 215 and up both days
So this set up was no lense. It was my hunting rig. Using a 3 pin uv. But I recently got a Title and have been using that for indoor and have been loving it. I'm using a Optum with x6 and that feels really good so far.
And thanks for the update. I was actually just watching a pod cast with the head of ASA on it talking about the new pro class Going to 60yds. That's going to be awesome.
@walderman55 that's actually a really good score for using a hunting set up then. You would easy be top 3 in bowhunter 45 with that score. Yeah the scores in the pro class are just mind blowing 🤯 right now. 50up for two days of shooting is just nuts. So it's good they made it 60yds.
@@TD3_Archery well that's good to know. I'm exciting to get back out there and test out the target set up.
But yeah, the scores they are putting up is wild. They may mis 1 or 2 12 rings. And that's it. Those guys are killing it for sure. I'm excited to set that type of standard for my self and actually shoot those types of scores.
