      James Polucha I really appreciate that. I’ve been in the PDR field for 19 years now, only been doing motorcycles for about 5. This segment in PDR is starting to grow and more guys are adding it to their business models but it is still a small group of guys in the industry. Thanks for the feedback and for sharing this video with others 👍🏻

    I work on motorcycles and I would have said "no way" to fixing that. Amazing to say the least. What is also amazing is the paint didn't crack or chip from the impact.

    I subbed and saved this video on the very very off chance i ever drop my bike lol. In Tucson i had to cross a wash to and from work every day. One day the sand got me. Wasn't paying attention and the bike went down and stalled at the same time. I was going about 4 mph at the time. No tank damage so i don't count that one lol

      nineball26 dude, I’m sorry I didn’t video the 8 hours this repair took. Most people like a 2-3 min video. This was never painted. It took hours to fine tune the little details to get the metal slick to the point of wet sanding the clear to being perfect again. I would not claim this as a paintless repair had that not been the case. But I appreciate the compliment, if you think I repainted or cleared it to get these results I count that as a win.

    • @ProPDRofGa
      @ProPDRofGa  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      JOSH DRUMMOND there aren’t that many guys doing it at the moment. At this point it’s a small niche within the PDR industry but it is steadily growing.

    • @motorman111jld
      @motorman111jld 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pro PDR of Ga I can understand why. My brother had a sportster a few years back. I think it was a 2012. The insurance company was going to total it for a dent on each side of the gas tank. It had been dropped a couple times sitting still and just because 2 dents it was gonna be totaled. The guy sold it to my brother and he rode it for a while till he got a bigger bike.

    • @ProPDRofGa
      @ProPDRofGa  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      JOSH DRUMMOND i haven’t done any insurance work...not sure why. I’m trying to crack that nut through my relationship with the HD dealers around me....time will tell.

    You guys are good. I wish you would have shown using the tools from the opening. . . It's amazing that pulling on the dent from the outside didn't pull the paint off.

    • @ProPDRofGa
      @ProPDRofGa  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      234dilligaf I told the customer of the risk with glue pulling and he said “go for it”. Typically I won’t GP on gas tanks unless there is no other way. If you watch some of my other videos I think I show tooling out a dent from inside.

    A mechanic guy at my work said you can fill the tank with water, add the cap then place the entire tank in the freezer. He said the expansion of freezing water pops out the dent and that he has done this on several bikes. Not sure it works first hand but just throwing this out there...

    • @ProPDRofGa
      @ProPDRofGa  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      PracticingLiberty i actually thought about buying a junk tank just for the purpose of trying that and documenting it because I have serious doubts. I’m sure it will improve the dent and move it some but a couple of things. 1. Crowns are a big factor with motorcycle dents and the freezing of water would expand and push the dent from the inside but there would be nothing to knock down the crown around the dent.
      2. I’ve seen what happens when a dent is pushed with no heat being applied, the paint can crack easily, so I’d assume a tank in a freezer, where the paint is super cooled prior to the water freezing and moving the metal could result in a lot of busted paint.
      3. I’ve seen similar videos of people using inner tubs and blowing them up inside the tank and it only removes some of the dent but doesn’t result in a perfect repair. I expect that to be the case with freezing water inside too.
      All that being said, i’d still be interested in trying it and videoing the results just to put the knowledge out there.

      @@ProPDRofGa I should ask my dad if he still has his dented Harley tank to use for the experiment. That is how the conversation came up i.e. when I told the guy my dad paid $800 for a new tank because of a dent he told me of the freeze procedure

      Kamalakrsna Devi every dent is different so I dont want to anchor a price in anyone’s mind because more than likely someone else’s dent would be priced differently, that being said the price of this repair has been mentioned in the comments, 800-900 with shipping included, less than a new tank according to the customer.

    What did this job cost this guy. Then what was shipping both ways. If it was a stock paint job. Would it have been cheaper to just order a new tank?
    Shipping both ways?
    Your part in cost was?
    Total??

    • @ProPDRofGa
      @ProPDRofGa  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lee Olaeta I believe it was 800-900 total with shipping if I remember right. My cost was around $600 give or take. It was cheaper to repair and not replace in this situation from what the customer told me. We are in GA and the customer was in TN so the distance wasn’t that bad.

      @@nicstr28 I purchased in brand new from that factory 2008 limited edition tank in 2010 for a Hayabusa. Its was $900.00. That's why I asked about this one. I lost balance on mine in my own garage. I had it under control. But it was going to go all the way down before I could stand it back up. It landed very gently on something. But it collapse a small dent. But if it cost this much to get a dent out. I'm even. I was thinking a couple to a few hundred dollars. I would fix this one & sell it off. Now I'll just need to sell it off fairly cheap.

      Edwin that’s no problem at all. People ship me tanks to work on all the time so you have that option. You can also look up Dent Dynamics in Santa Rosa or Dents No More (think they’re in Orange County) and either of those guys could help you out as well.

      @@ProPDRofGa how does that compare to the amount of cost to pulling dent, sanding and painting? Just really curious.

    • @ProPDRofGa
      @ProPDRofGa  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dave Pelfrey I’m not sure, I don’t know anyone who can paint those graphics, not sure if they were airbrushed or decals under the clear. I know the cost of a new tank unpainted was $800 or so I’m told. This guy wanted to save the original paint and not drop serious coin on a new tank. It all just depends on the situation, sometimes it’s just better to replace it, just have to weigh all the options. I personally don’t think any paint job is a good as the factory one, people will argue that but an immaculate paint job that’s identical to the original is a rare find.

    • @ProPDRofGa
      @ProPDRofGa  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      JT 1200 haha, no trade secret here, you can buy the whole kit at Ultra Dent Tools in CA website, be prepared to drop close to 2k on it all. Truth is I could give anyone out there all the tools necessary but without extensive training and years of experience it wouldn’t do anyone any good. A lot of people associate me with a typically DIY guy but I’ve been doing PDR for 18yrs now and bikes for only the last 5yrs...they can be a real pain in the butt. There are seasoned PDR techs all over the country that won’t even touch them. Not trying to toot my own horn but I just wanted to put things into perspective. If you really want to learn PDR, find a school that trains and then get on with a company who will mentor you and show you the ropes.

    I'm looking at purchasing a gromm tank vice for our pdr shop (Canada, don't worry) and are curious what you roughly charge for the average tank job since it requires mounting and all this extra work on top of being difficult metal to work with. I'm trying to justify the purchase since we get asked a lot by local bike dealers and retail as well. Thanks!

    • @ProPDRofGa
      @ProPDRofGa  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to hear you’re adding it to your arsenal. I would say my average cost is in the 300-500 range depending on the damage...had some bigger jobs that were more and had plenty of smaller jobs that were less. Either way when you factor in the cost of the set up I personally think it’s a great investment...if you plan on marketing it and trying to get more business.
