when using the weld on stud process on japanese or metric tanks, may i suggest using a European travel plug adapter if you are in the U.S. this will convert American electricity into metric electricity and provide a far stronger weld point. Obviously if you are working on a Harley Davidson then don't use metric electricity.
johnnycactus0 I just asked google and it said Euro metric electricity is twice as powerful as American SAE electricity? HOLY SH!T ! ... this opens a whole new world of shed possibilities ! thank you Mr. Cactus !
Ichiban Moto As usual, well thought out and very informative. Was the assembly tape on the spot welder voltage grade, or will standard assembly tape work just as well. I hate throwing money away, as I am on a budget
This video is awesome! Thank you Ichiban Moto. This completely removed the hair from my brows and beard when I did the first step but the results were well worth it. No more gas in the tank! I used an old screw driver instead of the coat hanger and the circuit breaker kept tripping so I removed it and wired everything straight up and it worked beautifully. Holding the wires by hand was not a great experience the first few minutes but then after the burnt skin got hard it was much easier.
Awesome instructional video, with great tips!!! I found it helps the welding part when you wash your hands thoroughly and weld while your hands are still wet. This prevents the oils in your skin from getting on the metal during the weld. Oh, it also helps to stand in a puddle so you know your feet aren't kicking up dust from the floor
I want to send you something. I just have to make sure it is creative enough to be worthy. And also a task worthy of your skilled hands and dynamite super pocket knife with the Diamond blade. Nomah Wahn Ichiban!
I've been doing tanks for over 35 years and his methods seem to work a lot better than mine. I suggest that you use his tank dent pulling system. One thing though instead of using 110 volts use 220 to weld the nail to the tank.
The Gentleman Biker Could you possibly test on some scrap sheet metal first? Maybe with 110v using an American adapter ? and if that doesn't blow through, then try full euro metric voltage? I'm going to test the opposite of this with the recommendation from johnnycactus0 since I have only 110 volts here.
This video is misleading. Repairs are always easy when using professional tools as used here. The problem is the average hobbyist haven't got access to this level of expensive specialist tools!
JTR Actually, the beauty of Ichiban´s spoofs is he is not THAT far off. There ARE in fact specialist tools for this procedure, and they do work beautifully.
I freaking love this guy! Dead pan delivery makes this joke video that much funnier. Only a fool would take this as serious. He's got other funnier videos.
I REALLY LOVE THIS GUY , Because this is totaly original in humour ; reasons is that he is actually showing the truth in the way of doing it but actually all you have to do is just to use the proper materials and tools to accomplish what he says GREAT WORK !
This is a refreshing alternative to the how-to videos where the guy goes on and on about safety issues. Great way to cull the stupid population. Keep 'em coming!
Third time I've come across Mr. Badass. LOL This guy is a trip! Its like he never quite made it out of middle school emotionally or mentally. But, then again, I can say that about most people I meet. Gotta remember Ichiban Moto is just a series of comedy routines.
Way too much work and a waste of gasoline. try this next time. Instead of burning the gas off at the beginning, make it your friend. Seal the cap on the tank and then run you electrical wires in through the bottom. Then plug it in and let it arc and spark. That should blow the dents out. e sure you have enough gasoline in to do the job, but not enough to blow it up. That's the tricky part.
+Middle Path Just turn them over; you will probably notice that they are "10 INCH" on one side and "250 mm" on the other. This is especially true for adjustable "Crescent" wrenches.
I tried this method and it works great. You don't always need top end tools to do good work. Don't knock it till You try for yourself. Funny, the people criticizing are the ones who probably can't even change their own oil.....Thanks, very helpful....
I didn't read the whole title of the video before I started watching. When you said the tank was from a Gold Wing, I knew something was amiss. Very funny video.
It's sad that you have to put parody in the title for people to realize it. Even then some people can't figure it out lol. Anways, I think your vids are......badass haha
I would tend to agree. But for this video, since it includes the welding technique, the small disclaimer was probably smart. I have not read a lot of the comments, but I am guessing people are giving him a hard time on safety. The first video I watched was his rock tumbler. I thought he was just old school until the nail scissors came out. lol
To everyone who is offering their negative feedback, I don't understand. I have been following the videos and using his techniques with great results. The only think I find fault with is using the bare wire in the outlet. This is extremely dangerous! You must use two metal paperclips and attach the wire to them first. then easily insert into the socket. Obviously he has never has yet to have a strand of wire bend back and lodge under his fingernail. I literally shuddered watching him stick the wire into the outlet without paperclips.
Damn! I knew I was doing it wrong. Never listen to your little girl when it comes to dent removal. She told me to lure Pixies and fairies into the tank by laying a trail of sugar cubes from the bottom of the garden where they live, all that way to the shed where I kept the dented tank. "When the pixies and the fairies get inside the tank put a lid on it. You can make a lid with pastry," she said. I did that and nothing happened but my little girl said I just have to be patient and they will beat out the dents from the inside if I just sing to them. I spent a year in my shed singing to my bike tank but it failed. I am starting to think there never were any fairies or pixies in my tank at all. I am going to do it like this now, so thanks man. That's bad ass.
Monitor ever 30 minutes once the water begins to freeze or you will expand further than you would like. Remove as soon as the dent is corrected. DO NOT LEAVE OVER NIGHT!!
from the spark from the plug cant be true i am an electrician and i can telyou 2 thing 1 do that you will pop the fuse or breaker each time 2 the spark was from 12 volts not 120volt in 40 year i seen many 120 spark to know

I'm always laughing hard at your videos, but I'm serious when I say some 16 year old really could kill himself. They don't teach anything of this nature in schools anymore, and most kids have been sheltered away by their parents. Kids these days honestly might not know just how dangerous this stuff is because they don't have a real father that teaches them. I know it isn't your fault they are ignorant but it isn't really there fault either, but they will pay the price.
FontediCalore Nature selection would imply that they are actually just stupid, but that isn't the case for some young sheltered kid. If you have never been exposed to it and/or been taught it, you are just ignorant, but not necessarily stupid.
+ Mr. E Nature selection will take anyone that's not paying attention, not necessarily the idiot ones. Yes maybe the match inside the tank is a little too much, lol. I thought it was funny. But seriously the 16 year old might not try the egg beater and sandpaper but he's likely to throw a match into a gas tank. Heck anybody might try that.
James Fuller you know what? in the USA a 16 years old can drive a V12 Mustang. And many of them do. Now what's wrong to showing the same exact kids to see what happens when you put a match to a tank? after all with the Mustang they might kill an entire FAMILY! Unlikely with the match! Glad to be here. I'll may ask for some help here in the near future, currently trying to mod my G4TR cafe racer to use NOS energy drink instead of two-stroke oil. Shouldn't be too hard I'm sure.
I am from the US and don't have easy access to metric vice grips. I do have a left handed standard pair. Do you think I can substitute? Also do not have Victorinox swiss army knife. Will Wenger work as well for cutting studs?
Wow brother this is an absolutely amazing video thank you so much taking the time to make this video! God bless you're the man amazing skills awesome Talent
Here how I do it. Step 1- light M80 fuse. Step 2 - Deposit lit M80 into (GAS/FUME FREE ) tank. Step 3 - Tighten Tanks Filler Cap Tightly. Step 4 - Make hasty exit far from what's about happen. BOOM.... Dents are gone. Works like a champ.
Funny but also a very dangerous Dude, seeking out comic ways of doing things LMAO !! I hope people with little knowledge, don't get hurt in trying any of these kind of methods !! I've given Your Video a Thumps Up bro, keep em coming !!
justn finished pulling the dents out of my 77 suzuki pe tank. your tips worked flawless except the welding. i used the hot glue tube thing and nail trick worked great! and to think i was going to toss that old tank. btw compressed air works for most large cave ins too. thanks for the awsome tips dude
I have questions. When I tried the gasoline removal/safety process you describe I had a much more sudden and dramatic reaction and I'm trying to determine what I did wrong. I think i've narrowed it down to three possibilities. You don't mention in the video wether it is best to remove residual gas from the tank prior to initiating the process? The second possibility is that the dents on my tank were in a different location? Lastly, and most probable in my estimation was a reaction between the chemical make up of the matches I used and the gasoline. I was not able to proceed past this first step but if I were able to do it again I would probably try a different brand of matches.
I only had plastic coat hangers and could not replicate your weld process. Is it okay if I paint my plastic coat hangers with metal coloured paint? I am hoping that using 2 x AA batteries instead of just one will help as the dent I have is very old and has probably become a little stubborn and set in it's ways a little.
Where can I find a pair of metric vice grips ? I can't find them around here, and the snap-on guy just laughs. But he did have the left handed metric crescent wrench I needed, but it cost twice what a regular one does.

I've always wanted to get into welding, is this method okay for frame building?
The Gentleman Biker Using a 220 volt circuit would probably be more effective for welding than 110v.
Would that make it easier to blow through though? I plan to build an ultra light bike from that sheet metal you wrap turkey in.

A sure fire way is to put water in the tank put the cap on and wedge it in the microwave for 10 to 15 mins, this works 1/100 times.

welcome to the shop !
Glad to be here. I'll may ask for some help here in the near future, currently trying to mod my G4TR cafe racer to use NOS energy drink instead of two-stroke oil. Shouldn't be too hard I'm sure.
Man, you are old school! The way it had to be done back when. I enjoyed this video very much.
LOL ...metric vise grips...
of course, it's a honda tank
LOL! Grrrreat stuff!
+ElderlyIron thanks for watching and sharing !
I've given Your Video a Thumps Up bro, keep em coming !!
justn finished pulling the dents out of my 77 suzuki pe tank. your tips worked flawless except the welding. i used the hot glue tube thing and nail trick worked great!
and to think i was going to toss that old tank. btw compressed air works for most large cave ins too. thanks for the awsome tips dude
so like 280 psi to pop a dent?
I love how you got the gasoline out of the tank! Ill have to make myself a sander like that! Really took the paint and epoxy right off!
Would it be safer to put on the gas cap when burning away the extra gas? I feel like its dangerous when the flames shoot out..
Great use of a Swiss navy penknife, did you spot it had a blue handle?
Smiling!
I know it's been 8 years but it gave me a good laugh, thanks.
Excellent work! I`d try it myself, but can`t seem to find a metric Wise Grip anywhere....
