@@deltapi8859 I was shocked, afraid, and ashamed when I got the vampirism in Daggerfall. I was but a mere boy, thinking I lost/broke the game. When my older brother walked in to verify how "I broke the game" saw that I was a OP vampire, he became twisted with jealousy and kept repeating "How!?" with increasing urgency.
And at that young age I realized that a good vampire keeps their secrets (I also just didn't know what RNG was at that age).

If you play Skyrim with mods, Sacrosanct gives you a perk that gives you 4 non-vampire perk points but you get insta-destroyed by the Sun. It's pretty neat imo.

In Morrowind you can still die in the sun.
In Oblivion I enchanted an amulet with a permanent 2hp/sec regen effect and called it the Sunwalker's Amulet. It could counter sunlight damage in the early stages, and slow it at the higher stages. If you had access to spell crafting you could layer a 2 minute regen effect on top of that to negate most damage.

You dream of someone sleeping peacefully in his bed, when a shadowy, gaunt figure silently enters the room. Approaching the bed, the figure leans down and sinks its fangs into the sleeping person. After a few moments, the pale figure rises, blood dripping down his/her chin. As color flows back into the vampire's face, and his/her features fill out, you recognize the face as your own. You awake screaming.
You dream of a sumptuous banquet spread out before you. You feast on a particularly choice cut of roasted meat, and its aroma makes your mouth water. It is only as you cut into the last portion that you see the scrib larvae squirming inside. You cough blood as the larvae begin eating their way out of your stomach.
You dream of Jared Fogle as your first grade teacher...

@@MrJustinArt You dream playing Morrowind sequel, the magic system got more complex and intertwined, a lot of features and mechanics were further deepened and rewarding to learn and get into. The story is multi-layered, involves different factions in the game politicaly interacting in a big lived in world. You wake up realising it was but a dream.

Daggerfall Vampirism is pretty badass. Yeah its sucks to have no fast travel and stay at the night but the boosts you get is just way too awesome depending on which region you get your vampirism.
Its sad that vampirism in morrowind makes you an undead clown , in oblivion its rather meh and skyrim is just .... almost nothing at all except you go full "goth-kid hates sun" .
"Sucks to have no fast travel" in Daggerfall is a big deal.
Fast travel can be done via mages quild teleporter service and sun damage completely blocked via regeneration spell. I learned this thanks to the blood of the Anthotis clan that gives you + 20 to your every attribute and generic vampire spells

Imagine being a vampire in Morrowind. You visit Mournhold on the Almalexia business, and most of the locals are okay with you. Apparently, the capital folks more educated and tolerant than Vvanderfell hicks. They even invite you to act out a part in a play in front of the live audience!
However, as you're busy remembering what you have to say, it's 6:00 and sun comes out.
You start feeling the slight burning. Nevermind, you suck it up, and continue with the script.
So, as you keep reciting your character's lines while _smoking,_ a random guy jumps out of the crowd and tries to attack you. Apparently, some Mournholders don't really dig the vampires after all! So you have to self-defense his black ass into the pavement. No one else makes a move. The play is a crushing success.
Of course, then they tell you that the dude was an assassin supposed to take out the real actor that you were standing in for, but who cares.

That little run-down actually reminds me of many experiences I had with a werewolf mod in Skyrim. The mod added a bunch of buffs and skills to make playing a werewolf more fun, one of the settings being forced transformations at night. You can set it to where you'll transform every night, only on nights with full moons, no forced transformations at all, or have it possible on any random night (you can even set the RNG chance for it to proc on any random night).
Going the Random Nights route makes for the best situations.
Walk into Solitude, gotta talk to someone on some Thieves Guild business. Don't notice the time as you step into the tavern and find your informant. Half way through the conversation your vision pulsates as you hear a pounding heartbeat in your head. You know it's coming...The Change! You've got about 10 seconds to gtfo before you turn into a monstrous beast and are forced to savagely maul and tear asunder any unfortunate soul that crosses your path. All in the name of self defense, of course. After all, you've got a condition! It's not your fault!
I can't tell you the number of times I've had to make a mad-dash for a city exit while screaming "DON'T LOOK AT ME! STAY AWAY!!!" before turning into a ravenous monster with this mod. Really made that playthrough a lot of fun!

@@ruggedlemmings9163 Always amusing being in werewolf form in Skyrim only to have some random thief try to mug you. Or that one random event were some bandit runs up and hands you an item to hold on to. A lot of Darwin awards get handed out to those scripted event NPCs...

My Daggerfall Vampire became godlike but it took time, for so long just going outside was a death sentence and then I finally got enough magic to create a regeneration spell that countered the damage caused by daylight, I called it "Sunscreen". By the end I could jump over city walls when the gates were closed and even reach the top of the fighters guild tower from ground level, I was immune to all magic and could only be killed by a single hit because I would regenerate damage immediately.
Vampirism gave huge stats boost until oblivion.. Too bad skyrim didnt have attributes like acrobatics etc

This is the Way.
I remember RPing a character in Morrowind that "accidentally" became a vampire. The whole experience was so unpleasant that I resolved never do it again. You lose nearly all access to fast travel, and most merchants, trainers, and NPCs in general won't talk to you. The only factions that don't COMPLETELY hate your guts are the Mages Guild and House Telvanni, though any quests for those factions that require talking to non-faction NPCs are impossible to complete. Basically 80-85% of the game becomes closed off to you.
Which is one of those things where while it does make sense, why put the option in if you're going to make the player unable to play the game?
It's a genuine disease, there are other diseases that make it harder to play the game. It doesn't make you unable to play the game, quite the contrary. It opens up new parts of the game and can be cured later.@@codafett

I was under the impression that Calm Humanoid allowed you to interact normal-ish with NPCs as a vampire in Morrowind. Never became a vampire myself, though.
One time in Oblivion, my vampire mage got kicked out of the Arcane University, and I was locked in the plaza where they go outside to learn. I couldn't use the gates to get out because I lost access, and I couldn't go in any of the buildings either, nor could I fast travel out because it was morning and I was taking sun damage. I was trapped there with no option other than to die, and it was the most annoying time ever. I had to backtrack a far behind save lol.

I am 95% sure you could've fast travelled to the arcane university and would've survived. You don't simply die automatically when fast travelling during the day, the game actually calculates how much in-game time passed for you to get to your target location and lets you take the appropriate amount of damage. If the travel takes less than a minute (which it does if you travel from the arcane university to the arcane university) your health would be only slightly affected and you'd survive.
Not gonna lie my favorite version was actually Oblivion's version. I liked how it forced you to ACTUALLY play a vampire: night becomes your new day, day becomes your new night. That and the Vampire Sight that gave nightvision and see-through-walls was busted as fuck as opposed to Skyrim's crappy night vision just turning everything into black and white. :3
That said, I've always thought that ESO's Vampires make the most sense. Like why is it in the singleplayer games you grow *stronger* as you *starve* yourself? Wouldn't it make more sense that if you've gorged yourself on the life-blood of your enemies you should be more powerful than if you're runnin' on empty?
Daggerfall had a good version of Vampirism. 72 hours after you caught Vampirism, you'd die (which would wipe all your guild affiliations, since you technically died) and be buried in a crypt, then wake up in that crypt.
You'd gain a shitload of stat/skill bonuses and immunity to Paralysis, but you'd also take damage in the sunlight, take damage in holy places, couldn't fast travel during the day, and had to kill every 24 hours or you couldn't rest. You'd occasionally have Vampire Hunters come after you too, or had to do a quest for your Clan.
Some of the penalties for being a Vampire could be worked around by a Mage. A high strength shield or regeneration spell could counteract the sun/holy damage, and a high rank in the Mage's Guild would allow you to use the Teleportation service even during the day.
The reason that Vampires became stronger with starvation in Oblivion and afterwards, is because starvation would cause their Vampirism to progress, bringing them closer to being a fully supernatural undead being, while feeding would suppress the disease. Vampires who fed were trying to suppress their disease so they could cling to their mortality and mingle with mortals, while Vampires who starved were embracing their undead nature, and reveling in the power it brought, while accepting it's negatives. Plus, only certain Clans (such as Oblivion's "Cyrodiil Vampyrum Order") could hide their Vampirism and sunlight vulnerability by feeding, due to a pact with Clavicus Vile.
Feeding could only suppress and slow the progression of Vampirism for a time though, after a certain age feeding was no longer effective in suppressing it, which is why elder Vampires are all obviously undead despite how much they feed.
Initially, ESO's Vampirism functioned the same as the single player games, becoming more powerful as you starved.

my first oblivion save file on the 360 got soft locked. the witch with the cure for vampirism needs 24 hours to create the cure, doesn't allow intruders in her house and it was noon, several days since i fed. i would die by sunlight before reaching the nearest cave. 💀

In Morrowind's expansion Solstheim there's a well with a magic robe that boosts your max mana but gives you sunlight vulnerability for a vampire-like experience.

It's really frustrating how in Skyrim you suffer from sunlight debuffs 14 hours a day, even though Skyrim is up in the north where they don't get very much sun.
It really makes no sense, when it's cloudy vampires should be good to go, not burn
Well, in the previous games if you were a vampire and walked in the sun, you would take constant damage untill you died.
Having some debuffs seems way tamer than burning into ashes.
Don't polar regions get more sun in the summer? Like, if you go far enough north or south sometimes the sun doesn't set? (granted, the opposite's in the winter.)

@@caseyhall2320 What I did was I would jus let a werewolf attack me over n over again even tho itd kill me in like 3-4 hits, you have to have decent armor but mostly you jus have to have a healing spell and enough magicka to spam it for a while or however long you want to increase your chances before you feel like killing the werewolf n resting to see if you got it lol

Running from sunlight was a constant challenge. A couple of times I walked outside without thinking about, wondered why my character was making 'oof' sounds while I wasn't paying attention, and then suddenly remembered when she keeled over and died.
Being a vampire in Oblivion is so amazing its OP as heck.

Werewolves are on roids in Daggerfall even more than vampire. Lycanthropy raises your physical stats to a ridiculous level and with the ring of hircine, you have all the benefits without the disagreements (aka werewolf periods ).

thats why in oblivion I made a spell called SPF 9000 it lasted for ages and healed just over the max damage the sun could do to me per second. plus it was pretty potent inside or at night

Yeah pre Skyrim the elder scrolls games gave you access to a spell creation system. I can see why they cut it as it was massively OP but I do miss it

Just going to let you all know and/or remember, you can enchant items with magic absorption and absorb the sunlight damage in Oblivion.

Vampirism in Skyrim is probably closer to Twilight. The Sun causes your blood to boil, but it doesn't actually hurt you. And if you take the Necromage Perk, all of your enchanted gear gets an insane buff.
So you can walk out in the daylight and sparkle because of all your shiny enchanted pimp gear.
Plus you get Best Girl Serana as a companion.
They should've made it so you're unaffected by regular Healing Spells and had to use either Vampiric Drain or Heal Undead to restore your hp.
And actually, getting the -100% Regen during the day is way worst that just dying. If you run out of Magicka then your fked as a vampire mage..
@@maxidiaz7955 Also doesn't make sense that you become stronger as a vampire the hungrier you are. The bonuses should be stronger the more recently you feasted on blood (opposite of how it works now), while the penalties should increase the longer you stay hungry (like they do now). Additionally doing vampiric activities often should send a bunch of Dawnguard troops after you (or something like that) to somewhat counteract the ability to have strong bonuses combined with weak downsides.

I was just never satisfied with the idea that even wearing clothes that completely cover your body won’t protect you from the sun (I also wasn’t ok with not being able to fly even though the vampire form has pretty sizable wings but hey that’s what mods are for)

Just becoming a vampire in Daggerfall was awesome. Die of an unknown disease and be mad at the game, then you wake up alive again in a tomb and now your portrait has fangs.
I remember forgetting that I need to cure my vampirism and was wondering why villagers were randomly attacking me. Then the sun came up and it clicked.

I liked Vampirism in the early days in Skyrim. You can either let yourself starve and get more power at the cost of being unable to live among people, or feed frequently and blend in, but at a lower power level. I think it's much cooler when power comes at a price. Vampirism is, after all, a curse, and should be treated as such.
vampirism in oblivion was so awful, like i didnt know how to cure it and a s a high elf i was legit running around healing every 10 secs
I know the feeling, like running to goron city while stacked with food, your character goes on a long AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH, I only turned vampire to do a dumb quest for count skingrad (it's also the only way to get your vampirism cured), and gotta say, not worth it, so I went on the CK to make the race less lame, got rid of the "sun damage" and the "looking 80" thing, and there you go, elder vampire powers on a new vamp body.
Being a vampire in Morrowind almost makes the game unplayable without the right mods. Everyone and their sister knows your a vamp and will attack if you stick around, and I'm pretty sure only the Mages guild, vamps from your clan, and very specific npcs will still talk to you. As much as I loved MW for those kinds of details, it still made it basically not worth the buffs the vampires gave you.
I would love to see a return of three different clans for the three RPG archetypes, mage-warrior-thief. Then you can RP a vamp to more your playstyle.

nothing beats trying to heal yourself from vampirism in oblivion, since you cant fast travel while taking damage (which for a vampire means being outside) and you cant wait while trespassing (which in the nights just means being inside) so you pretty much cant reach that lady who lives so far from everything if you try to fast travel it'd become day and youd burn outside her house because you cant wait for it to become night while trespassing

Some of my best fun in gaming was being a vampire and decided i wanted to be strong enough to survive in the sun. Only to figure out that regardless of how much hp i can regenerate, you cant get rid of the blurring effect from the sunlight and it ruined it for me. So instead i became a werewolf and relentlessly annihilated every town i came across

Why is everything done better in Daggerfall? Being a werewolf in daggerfall is maybe my perfect version of werewolf-ness. You have _the most_ power, but you _have_ to kill innocents to keep it.
I think most of the original Bethesda team members like Julian Lefay left after Daggerfall. Since then, the studio and its members keep stripping away RPG elements with each entry, which also effected vampirism and lycanthropy.
