One the greatest to ever play the horn. Totally natural talent. Very versatile. From what I understand he was a very humble and kind person. He will be missed, and his recordings on films like the James Bond series will live forever.

Best flugel tone? Everything above middle C sounds like a trumpet... Not to disrespect him in any way, he is by far my favorite lead player, but his flugel sounds is far from the best in my opinion

I can remember hearing this performed in 1997 at the NEC Arena in Birmingham. I was only 10 at the time. Amazing to see them live given that up to that point I’d only seen Derek perform MacArthur Park on the Berlin Concert video. I think a testament to how amazing it was is that I can still remember it in 2021. RIP Derek and Hansi.

A cornet has a conical design, where the bore gets wider the entire length of the tubing, whereas a trumpet has the same bore except for the final section. This is what makes its sound - as you correctly state - brighter or sharper than that of the cornet. And yes, the cornet is a little shorter in length, but not in the length of tubing.
