  • Very nice rendition of a popular cover made famous by Maynard Ferguson. Melodic flugelhorn solo in the early part, and then Derek Watkins switches to trumpet (@6:00 mark)for the high-end altissimo finish

This is music, at a peerless level. How do some people get this good? He's just feeling it, every note, but seemingly (!) with no effort. I knew him, played with him, but I honestly didn't realise just how good he was. He actually transcends his instrument on this performance, which is a state of mind that every musician should aspire to.
Also, the nicest man you could ever meet. What a loss.

This song was composed by a British man, sang by Richard Harris in 1968 (?). The song was written for Linda Ronstadt's sister; the baking of the cake refers to his long relationship with Linda's sister and her rejection for marriage. Their relationship started at a bench at the park and ended at the same place (years later). Salute

MacArthur Park has to be first or second most boring songs to play. I enjoyed the trumpet high register but like most big bands it overwhelms the soloist and can barely hear him.
