  • In this episode of The Joy of Building, we upgrade our food source by building some terraced farms! These farms are plots of land that increase in height alongside the hill. Now, we no longer have to eat sweet berries as our main food source... we've got crops!

Exactly, I found that those crazy videos just weren't very relatable. Watching all the different mega builds, it just felt like everyone was in a competition to one up each other lol.
I grew up watching minecraft let's plays and those were some of my favorite videos. They had a more authentic feel to it, so I'm trying to take some inspiration from the content that I enjoyed 🙂

This is exactly how I escaped the 2 week MC phase many are trapped in rn. I just simply stopped looking at the game as linear and slowed down. Wasnt in a rush to get all the good gear, so I started building towns, going out of my way to get things deemed unimportant, like sniffers.

I've never understood speedrunning for that exact reason once you get to the end of your PB maybe even WR what's next? Run the same seed 40 times again to cut off 10 seconds? If I'm being honest I havent even beaten the end dragon since the old 2014s ps3 version and even then I only did it because my mate had never done it before, glad people are slowly stopping this "Mega efficient iron farm day 1" stuff and actually playing the game again
Edit - ironically my newest base is specifically set up for beating the dragon but that was unrelated to the comment I thought it just seemed right with how I build and with never building in a stronghold before

Im seeing a lot of people who all are saying the same about how watching a simple world like this makes the game interesting again but my advice to all of you burnt out with minecraft is dont start a world expecting anything, go in and go slow, you dont have iron by day 5? See if you can go 10 days without it, you find a temple? Why not instead of looting it fix and upgrade it and connect it to a bigger system of roads, nothing major but something you dont normally do or even something you dont like doing, this is one of the few games i can regularly get back into even after years, you see so much stuff now that it makes you think "why cant i do that?" Then you start and realise theres only so many hours a day and stop, just give yourself big tasks you can actually finish and without copying build something that represents you, for me thats castles and villages for others it might be farms or whatever but you dont have to do this ultra hardcore stuff just to make the game fun, its fun as it is and gets more stuff added constantly, im glad people are starting to feel like i do about the game though, it can be as simple as a farming simulator if you feel like it and sometimes something as simple as a nicely put together farm is all it takes, to the guy who made this video if you see this i love the style you used i always have issues with layered farms but a nice compact one like that looks great

    some tips:
don’t use item frames too much or you’ll lag to death; the game counts item frames as entities and entities lag
same thing above for chests, use barrels instead; barrels are not only cheaper, but they aren’t entities unlike chests and they can open all the time even if there’s an obstacle above also they would match the spruce theme of the house
anyways let’s get this man to 100k!

I've recently completed a terrace farm that releases water and washes out all of the crops at the press of a button and then feeds into a hopper. I've realized that I prioritized progression too much in my previous worlds so I'm just taking the game one step at a time. I've already built an entire cherry blossom village with little farms that look nice and have functionality. I think that too many people focus on netherite gear and elytras, and by the time they get maxed out enchants on the best gear in the game, the incentive to build is mostly gone. I like to see real builds like this instead of the unrealistic and 99% of the time fake builds that you see on hardcore series.

Building can be intimidating sometimes. I still get a little overwhelmed with bigger projects. I find that either doing smaller builds or just dividing a big project into multiple small pieces can be helpful. Thanks for watching the series, I appreciate it! 😊

It would be so awesome if you were "pesketaryen/vegan." I feel like cooked beef is just so easy to farm, and honestly really boring! But I've always wanted to either do a playthrough myself, or watch someone who uses other foods besides the obligatory cooked meat. Plus I feel like it allow some really interesting world building ideas woven into it

also, this is a very off topic idea, but having the sugarcane and sweet berries up at the top terrace together sparked a thought for me. what if you had a little area where wine or juice are made, using the sweet berries and the sugar? of maybe a little bakery, in the future? the cakes with berries and stuff.
