      Hi, did you by chance drill though the DPC there @ 25:00. What would be the minimum depth expected to lay armoured cable. Some say it should be at least 1ft down.

    That CT Clamp cable: might be a good idea to use a cable tie around the cable in the harvi box to provide some strain relief in case it gets pulled.

  • @Tom-Lahaye
    @Tom-Lahaye 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Zappi got some really clever functions.
    I love the solar charge option, and I understood from another video from the MyEnergy channel that with the Harvi its possible to monitor the amount of energy generated by your solar panels as well by fitting CT clips on the cables coming from the inverter.
    As a result it's possible to see how much current is going in or out the grid, into the car and from the solar panels, and then the usage of other consumers in the house can be seen as a result.
    In the future they will offer a switch box to make other consumers in the house like a washing machine or tumble dryer intelligent, they are switched on when there is a surplus of solar energy.
    This can be a great advantage when having a smart meter which monitors consumption and feedback from or into the grid, in the near future in the Netherlands consumption from the grid will cost 3 times as much as you get payed for feedback, and this may apply to other countries as well.
    So worth using as much as possible of your own generated power directly.
    Also a big advantage is the built in type A DCR.

    I wish I had you as my installer. I had a right cowboy. Blew out a brick being too heavy handed: cracked another brick;. Broke two drills due to overheating when drilling an earthing rod. Drilled my charger to the wall in situ causing the internals to be full of brick dust, and finally, pinned the cable to plasterboard without using wall plugs. Apart from that perfect. :). Thanks for sharing

    Great video. Very well described performance and functionality with the install process. What I really like is that as a DIYer I can prepare for an electrical installation of an EV charger in the future by getting suitable cable under my floors from the consumer unit to an outside location. This way I do not need to have SWA screwed to my outside walls. This video confirms the capacity rating and prep work ahead of an installer coming in.

  • @stevejagger8602
    @stevejagger8602 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Storm SWA glands are very similar in design to Pro Term SWA glands which I first saw and liked at a trade show around 2010. As a result I gave up on the brass SWA because the Pro Term were so easy to fit and did a much better job of connecting the armour and sealing around the outer sheath.
    I retired just before EV charging really started in earnest.
    Always something new to learn. Keep up the good work.

    @Artisan Electrics I also spotted that when you drill through the wall from inside the cupboard with the consumer unit in it you also appear to have drilled through the damp proof course and you didn't answer Chris B's comment either when he passed comment about that you conveniently ignored it. If I had done that I would have ensured that I blew all of the Loose dust out of the hole before I passed the armoured cable through and then after inserting the armoured cable I would have pumped the hole full of clear silicone in order to try and restore the integrity of the DPC otherwise it's quite likely that you could end up getting Rising Damp in the wall .
    At least it is something that you should be more aware of on your next install

    • @artisanelectrics

      Top tip, you can buy large silica gel packs very cheaply on ebay / Amazon.
      I have these in my tool cases, particularly useful for precision stuff that often gets damp like my spectra laser level.
      The other thing is to keep a bit of scouring pad in the box and some wd40, a quick rub will get any surface rust off and the wd40 will give a bit of protection.

    I understand that EV chargers (like the Zappi) require to be connected Type A (or Type B) RCD or RCBO at the consumer unit. It was my understanding that this Type A RCBO (or RCD) requires to be double pole. Could you please confirm that this is correct? Did you connect the new MCB for EV to the existing Double Pole RCD?

  • @ryanmilne1987
    @ryanmilne1987 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video!! I have a couple of questions,
    1) why have you went onto the non rcd way? I'm assuming there is a reason? I know the have a 6ma rcd inside the charger there self,
    2) have you done a video on setting up the charger and Harvey and Eddie?
    3) whats this back plate that someone said you might have forgotten?

    • @artisanelectrics
      @artisanelectrics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thanks for watching.
      1. The cable doesn’t need RCD protection as it’s armoured and clipped direct. If I put it on an RCD it would have to be a type B RCD as it’s upstream from the Type A RCD with 6mA DC protection that’s built in to the Zappi.
      2. I’ve not done a video on this maybe I should...
      3. The back plate is just to protect the tethered cable from being scratched against the wall. It clips on to the top of the Zappi and is held on by a couple of screws at the back.

    I love watching your videos and always learn plenty by watching them. I wanted to ask a question though about the supply cable. Would you consider using a 2 core SWA with blue and brown conductors? If you go into a plastic CU you can add a link to the earth bar as a continuation of the armourings rather than a bonding conductor. If you go into a metal CU, the link could be omitted as the metal body of the CU would finish the link to the earth bar. By using at 2 core cable you would be using the steel armourings to form a very large CSA conductor for fault current. I know you will have considered this option. Is there a reason why you don't use two core which would avoid the parallel paths you get when you have an earth conductor and and earth link from the gland? Keep up the good work.

Many online forms to fill in and the questions keep coming, including ones that I have already answered! Just to save them sending out someone to do a survey! Anyway I am not going to trust them to run the supply cable and will get my local Spark to do it neatly rather than easily! Is 10mm 3 core SWA off a 32A or 40A MCB on the non-RCD side of the main CU what he should be running? I have asked BP Pulse but no reply !!

    If you were to run a single cable to a garage consumer unit to run an EV, a power circuit and a lighting circuit, what size armoured cable and MCB would you use?

    Thanks for the vdeo. With regards to the depth of the cable just under the slab, does that comply with regs?

    I'm interested in the part where you talk about not having to inform the dno about the 60A main fuse with this charger. You said that it has the ability to restrict the current used so it doesn't go over 60A but what about the rest of the current being used inside the house. Does it have the ability to detect the current being used inside the house and adjust for that? Thank you and great video as always

      @artisanelectrics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it reads the total load on the whole house and ramps down the charger if it gets close to 60amps or whatever you set it to as max

      So what is the charging times like when it reduces the current it can charge with?

    How does the Hub connect to the Zappi? I'm thinking of installing on a garage which is separate to the house and quite a way from the router. Worried that if it connects over WIFI that the signal might be too weak.

    Great video! Really helpful! I am wondering though, is the PEN fault detection necessary for indoors garages? According to BS7681 section 722 is just for outdoors, am I wrong??
    Thanks!

    Hi Artisan. Brilliant video as usual. Am I right in thinking that the cables etc cost about £60 on top of the Zappi charger?

    • @artisanelectrics
      @artisanelectrics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tim Payne this one is tethered so the cable is included in the price. If you have just a socket you need to get a cable but most cars supply a cable with the car.

    56:10 why dose the zappi not just have WiFi and connect directly to the internet itself ? Why do you need an extra box?

    Hi there, my garage does not have existing power and 40m from my house... Question: Is there any issues with splitting the the garage incoming supply between the Zappi charger (obviously not greater than the main supply 32A MCB)... Would welcome any advice as I would prefer to run on one main cable not two in my scenario.. Would welcome any advice from the Artisan Guru... thanks Ivan

    may have been easier using some T&E, then done a joint in a wiska box on the front of the house rather than risk going through the damp course. I never understand why people put earth clamps outside exposed to the weather, we may have external clamps but the copper just corrodes, i know with those ground boxes they can be tricky to get a clamp on the inside, but it can be done. Obviously you had no option because the cable was too short.

      I’d have moved the earth clamp to the inside of the huge gas meter box saves any weathering in the future

    • @acelectricalsecurity

      @@leebutterworth7465 those boxes are a pain to bond, there's a few big nuts and some flexi pipe and very little solid copper pipe, they are a crap design but I think you can just get a clamp on it though.

    • @leebutterworth7465
      @leebutterworth7465 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @AnthoyCharles I’d try my utmost to get a weatherproof bond on an external gas pipe

      @@leebutterworth7465 yeah your right, I see bonding clamps all the time open to the elements I have even showed the NIC guy and he just says what's wrong with it, it's an external clamp, then when I mention corrosion he says yeah I have a point, that's what you are up against.
