In my opinion, you missed a very important issue. That being as more apps a developed to take advantage of the M4's native functionality and as those same apps on the M2 start having to simulate the M4's capabilities in software/firmware as opposed to hardware, you will see the M2 system's deficiencies. Also, I use the iPad as an Internet-less system for reference manual and music storage. Finally, I want the larger display for photographic review/display purposes which the M2 system can not do in my case. Two totally different systems that each fill a niche in the marketplace, IMHO.
There are very few apps on any mobile platform that target the highest end hardware. Almost all of them start as low as possible. By the time the M2 is struggling to keep up, the M4 will not be far behind.
As my needs aren’t yours so the M2 is much more efficient and less expensive. I also buy the cellar option for use on the move. I find the options on the M4 models way above my price range. It’s horses for course really isn’t it we all have our needs and wants and price options. Most people, myself included only need a fraction of the power you would for instance.
I see a lot of this like when the cd first made an appearance, everyone dumped the record play because of the crackles it made in favour of the crisp tones of the cd! Now everyone realises it’s not really the point anymore.
Needs must and technical knowledge is a smaller part of practical use for the novice like myself. Who enjoys learning something new even with the crackles lol ..
I went with the 11inch iPad Pro 512gb,magic keyboard and the Apple Pencil pro, while tempted to go with the 13 inch,the eleven inch is truly the sweet spot for me

Thanks for the comparison. My old iPad Pro 10.5 inch screen has died so time to replace it. I love the pro models but couldn’t justify £999. So going for the new Air - 128g. I’m sure I won’t be disappointed.

Just unboxed my new m4 iPad Pro! I got the 13 inch with 256gb of storage along with the keyboard to do university work with. Loving it so far!

I tend to keep my Apple products for a long time. Saying this I will more then likely purchase the IPad Pro with the M4 chip. I notice you a an external hard drive plugged into the IPad. Which brand is it,may I ask? Also, which keyboard and mouse would you suggest I purchase with IPad?

I guess ill wait until Junes WWDC event to see if they better the OS, if they don't do anything worthy then I guess I'll get the air as it's only a companion device for me and my art gets finalised in macOS with full apps.
I want to see how long the battery life is going to be for these things. I have a a Macbook Pro with an M chip and compared to my other MBP in the past I'm seeing a decrease in battery life much faster.

Guys, let's stop complaining about the excessive power of iPad and having no use case.
I'm ordering the 11” IPad Air. M2 + 128 GB internal memory is the sweet spot for me. The display is good enough for me. And if the iOS is more Mac OS like. The IPad Air can mostly do the same thing the Pro can do.

Buying the iPad Air 11” and the Apple Pencil usb c! Typically not the best choice for some but in my budget. I draw and write too, however as someone who used procreate I’m not too bothered with inflated specs. I’m looking for something that will last me three to four years of use from new. The Apple Pencil pro I can get later if I need it, as of now until I make my first million lol 😂I’ll start with what I can afford and that can still do the job. Excellent work mate 👍
Thanks Matt - I have an iPad Pro M2 13” 512mb with a Logitech keyboard (backlit and function keys). This is used for most computing activities and is incredibly fast. I am yet to create a movies, play high end games or compile any applications. Mostly used for web browsing, email, writing and spreadsheets. I thought about the new M4 but concluded I would need to buy a new pencil, keyboard as well as a very expensive tablet. My existing M2 has no perceivable bottlenecks in performance. I suspect the new M4 is targeted at professional artists, musicians and movie makers who need the extra performance. They will probably buy the Itb model to get the full M4 chip and the higher internal memory. Whilst I have a M1 iMac it rarely gets used. The M2 iPad does all my tasks with ease. So what is the justification for buying the M4? Am I missing something?
If I were to get the iPad Air would it feel like a down grade from using an m1 3rd generation please?

And the low sales volume of the iPad Pro plays into the transition to the newest 3 nanometer process that TSMC is implementing.
There are barely any good protection cases out there right now for the new models. For creative and gaming and emulation stuff the more cpu and gpu power does matter. There are javascript emulators and other emulators and such that require quite some power.
What they should do is when you put the keyboard in they should allow you to run MacOS. In fact, when using my MacBook Pro, I use my iPad as a second monitor and you can see all the toolbar and everything. It looks great.
iPad Air is enough for me plus i love Touch ID

I agree with your assessment. I already had come to this conclusion prior to seeing your M4 iPad Pro performance figures. The M4 iPad Pro has amazing technical capabilities for a tablet computer, but iPad OS makes it the most pointless product in Apple's product portfolio. Even my M1 2TB 12.9-inch iPad Pro can do everything the M4 iPad Pro can including running the new Logic Pro 2 for iPad extremely well due to the restrictive nature of iPad OS. I object to spending all this money on a tablet computer when it is stuck in a walled garden of mostly mediocre smart phone style apps. Just look at the type apps that get top billing on Apple Store most days. I want to decide what apps I load on to my expensive iPad Pro, like I do with my M2 MacBook Pro, not Apple. iPad OS 17 even made sideloading apps with a developer account more difficult compared with iPad OS 16. So, now my favourite side loaded apps such as Dolphin emulator and UTM (runs VMs) cannot run standalone on my M1 iPad Pro with the help of a compiled app Jitterbug anymore, but instead are limited to crappy JIT tethering to a second inferior Apple device across my LAN! I don't intend to waste more money on Apple iPad Pros. This year's WWDC will be full of AI spin and will not include anything that could help iPad Pro sales. My iPad Pro upgrade budget will be spent on a Surface Pro 10 like device with Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X Elite. I've been using Windows 11 arm over the past 15 months daily, and it has improved significantly over that time. OK, it's not perfect, but neither was Mac OS when Apple Silicon was first released. At least Windows 11 arm is an OS for grown-ups unlike iPad OS, and not bogged down with the awful web kit which really gets in the way of your web browsing experience.

Frankly, the use case for the iPad Pro w/M4 is probably fewer than a few thousand users worldwide. It’s amazing that they’ve put that much power into a tablet, but who are the actual users that need it?

My pick is the 11” iPad Pro. I already have a Mac desktop to do most things but need something light and portable. The price/performance difference between the Pro and a MacBook is huge plus the Pro is easier to throw in a backpack and go, or to just take to bed to watch a movie.

I use iPad every day and have a iPad gen 5 that would probably have to be replaced in the next year or two and I looked at the iPad Pro for oled and pro res
but for me I can’t really justify the price at the moment I rather not have bent chips when I know I’m going to use it pretty much every day until it’s software stops getting updated so it need to be the 1tb model and I like to buy the pencil and Magic Keyboard and all that together cost about 3235 usd
I know it’s good hardware wise and I would use it a lot but I think I payed about 1000 usd less for my MacBook Pro 14inch that have the M1 Pro chip so it just feels wrong at the moment for me
For those in the USA, isn’t the apple refurbished iPad Pro 11” for $619 a better deal? It has all features except hover. It has pro-motion,256gb, and iOS can’t tell a difference between M1 and M2? 12.9 M1 Pro has mini-led and is 979.
It also has an additional camera and faster storage because these newer models switched to a single storage chip on the 256/512 version.
Glad they finally upgraded the iPad 11” pro but not a fan of the price update. So I decided to go with the iPad Air 5th gen M1 because it is on sale for $399 brand new.
An insane price but I could not manage with 64GB. So glad for the base storage bump on the new one

Me too. I don't want to spend too much money for the Ipad Pro M4. So I am thinking of getting the Air M2. But if you look at the Ipad Pro M2 it has so much better features - promotion display, quad speakers & usb thurderbolt. So I might buy the Ipad Pro M2 instead. My current Ipad is the 2017 Ipad Pro which is still good except for the battery and it only has 64 Gb.

I wish they would have just upgraded the Pencil + iOS and created some iPad friendly apps.
My 2018 iPad Pro 12.9" died recently, and I suspect it was from bending. It has been bent a time or two over the years from sliding it into an overstuffed bag. When I went to order a replacement and I saw the new pro was even thinner, I decided to instead get the 13" Air. I didn't want to risk the 5.1 mm pro bending. Hopefully the air doesn't feel like a downgrade. It's supposed to arrive today!
You should take better care of your stuff. I never had any bending issues with my 2018 iPad Pro.
@@michaelhall9146 I do. It’s my best guess as to how it was bent. It was never sat on, dropped, always in a case, with a tempered glass screen protector on it. Still bent somehow. It’s the only device I’ve ever had that bent.

Upgraded from an M2 11 to the M4 11. Man! That screen! Whites are white and blacks are black! That and they fixed the position of the FaceTime camera. Happy with the move just for those 2 reasons.

It’ll be worth it for me because I haven’t had an iPad since the one right before. The one with the pencil came out and I know I’m wanting to switch my note keeping and everything digital my husband has an error three or four with the first edition pencil, and I’ve been waiting it out to get a pro hoping that they were going to do something with the software thing but it doesn’t happen this time I want to buy me something

The MacBook Pro is a reliable and powerful tool that can assist me with all aspects of my academic journey, from taking notes in class to completing assignments and staying organized. Plus, it's portable, so I can easily bring it with me to campus or study sessions.

I’ve had them all in a previous gen and the FaceID and the 120hz display are the two must haves with a Pro. Once you become accustomed to 120hz, it’s really aggravating using a 60hz display on a device like this. The touch fingerprint sensor is much slower and is something I always find myself missing. I actually prefer the old audio one on the base iPad 9th Gen I have over the Air’s power button fingerprint sensor.

Another person not mentioning the sound quality, coming from a 2018 iPad Pro, the screen and performance are great, but the sound quality on this new iPad is awful in comparison, too thin.

When you said iPad Pro being the best display you've ever seen, I bet you have not seen the Galaxy S9 Ultra screen! I wish Samsung would put the Snapdragon X Elite SoC in their next flagship tablet I would buy in a heartbeat.

I think the iPad Pro m4 is absolutely fantastic, but indeed the OS software is the problem.
The biggest champion are the M1 and M2 iPad Pros on the refurbished store.
The thinner, lighter one is better.
I am still waiting for a tablet with a full macOS. Before that I won’t buy any iPad.
Yup, a companion device, I still need my MacBook Pro to get any serious work done. Price is way too high for me for a few sketch ideas, notes, and youtube... It's in the posh toy category for me until it breaks out of the walled garden that be iOS.

Most be people don't see this and don't care how many frames are refreshed per second. I have an e-ink device for reading that barely refreshes, but it's allot better for your eye health at the end of the day.

The problem I see is that Apple keep putting ALL these power and capabilities in an incredible tablet that is restrained by a week limiting software, they need to allow IOS in it and unleash ALL the capabilities
All new Apple M4 device’s will get the new Siri with OpenAi 4o. “Her” will come to life and Apple will sell more devices than ever. Again.
I think this is a flop if you already have the M2 and not “editing” videos.
