      I get that Apple can’t outright market this at over 70s, but I agree it’s perfect for them. Similarly at the other end of the scale it’s a good tablet for younger children, say 10ish and up.

      @@AntodyFor the iPad 10 I agree. For the Mini, I REALLY suggest waiting. It would have been 3 years since it came out, so the upgrade for it will be much greater and I think it would be a big mistake to buy one at full price now. If it’s heavily discounted on Amazon, which it often is, then probably go for it. Otherwise maybe wait to see what happens at the iPhone event

    As a professional musician who just saw both iPads today in person, they're amazing. Unfortunately for me (lol), I use my Ipad for work (reading music, writing in it, collecting scores, and for teaching/gigging). Additionally, I use it for all my entertainment needs (watching movies and shows, as well as music). The speakers make a huge difference in sound quality and the screen really packs a punch. I'll continue to think about it but I am leaning to the Pro.

    • @DanielMakesCadences

      I've got the new 13" pro upgrading from my m1 11" pro. Even as someone who's more of an intermediate musician, it's a huge upgrade for having charts on a music stand (especially using it outside) and multitasking (extreme case: Timpani sheet, instrument tuner, and metronome). The 13" air will be easier on the budget and can still do these things, but that 1000 nits of brightness is really nice if you play outside or on a brightly lit stage.

    I no longer carry a phone since I purchased an Apple Watch with cellular. My iPhone permanently lives in my cars center console where it stays connected wirelessly to my vehicles hands free systems. I keep it charged via the USB port within the console. The iPad mini 6 is my go to, go anywhere device. Reading, surfing, banking … everything. Small device with a large screen, what more could I ask for? I also own an I pad pro that mostly collects dust as I found the size and weight to be cumbersome and uncomfortable for casual usage. If Apple came out with an iPad mini pro, or some other type of high end mini, I would purchase it in a heart beat.

    My wife has the latest iPad Mini and uses it mainly for reading. She admits that she probably only uses 10% of its capabilities, but it’s so much better for reading than on her smartphone. Until the new A chip comes out this year, there is no point in upgrading the Apple Mini because the current chip is more than powerful enough. I expect the iPad Mini will be updated with the latest A chip at the end of the year. The only other update you can make to the iPad Mini is with the Face ID.
    One option for the iPad Mini is to expand its capability to act as a screen for the HomePod or Smart Display like the StandBy brought in with iOS 17.

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I'd happily take a slightly thicker iPad Mini in exchange for a brighter/faster screen, face ID and a better battery. That would make it pretty much perfect for me.

    At 82 I find myself with an embarrassment of tablets. 12.9 2nd Gen, Mini 6, Air M2 11, Kindle Scribe. I use 'em for scribbling notes and editing photo-audio-video, and for sheet music for singing. The Mini is adorable, Grandpa 12.9 is lovely for editing photos, Air 11 M2 is a beast for speed - it vacuums in music scores like a hardcore wind tunnel. The Scribe is the pinnacle for handwriting, and of course, reading books. So much to explore - looking forward to brainstorming on the Air (big fan of Justin Sung).

    After seeing that nano-textured display in the store, it really seems pointless. Just get a paper-like screen protector. It's nicer, you can remove it if you want, and it doesn't fade the colors as much. From what I've seen, the nano texture is nice at first, but then it collects fingerprints really badly and doesn't look as sharp.

Those two fields require boat loads of ram, where even 16gb that the ipad pro has is not enough. Everyone else could get by easily with an ipad air. I went to a store recently and there was a family buying an ipad pro and the youngling was asking for an ipad pro with 1tb. when she was asked by the employee what this ipad will be used for she answered note taking in university. complete overkill.

Only downside is the speakers aren’t that great, but I plan on using my AirPods anyways. I don’t really care about a 60hz display because my iPhone has ProMotion & can do everything with ease. It fits the budget, also fits in my small purse. It doesn’t replace my macbook and iPhone, but it can do a ton of things. I use it daily for note taking (both with apple pen and 3rd party keyboard), drawing, online meeting, reading articles, watching videos, playing video games, social medias, and as an extension of my macbook (using handoff). I even plugged it on HDMI to TV to watch movies in bigger screen (the battery longevity surprises me). Is 64gb enough? Surprisingly, yes. Mine doesn’t even take up half of the space.

    I absolutely agree that iPad does not need to be a MacBook, but I think it should intergrade more with Mac. The current Sidecar option is just weak. It would be nice for the iPad to became a fully featured touch/pen interface that enhances the Mac, something that utilise the thunderbolt connection.
    The naming scheme of Apple products is just confusing. It'd be more understandable with iPad SE, the iPad line (iPad mini, iPad, iPad Plus) and iPad Pro line (iPad Pro and iPad Pro Max). It would work the same with iPhones too, iPhone SE, iPhone mini, iPhone, iPhone Plus, iPhone Pro, iPhone Pro Max. MacBooks as well for that matter, MacBook(13"), MacBook Plus(15"), MacBook Pro(14") and MacBook Pro Max(16"). The "Air" suffix just isn't relevant with tech nowadays and Apple should just ditch it entirely. Well, what do I know.

    I'm actually trying to decide between an iPad Air M2 or an iPad Pro M2 (2022), if I can find one new at a similar price, where I live. That and the screen size, still deciding between 11" and 13". I come from an iPad 6th gen (2018). I'll try to see in person both devices in both sizes whenever possible, maybe that will help.
    One thing which makes me confused is that I never heard any confirmation about the support from Apple on older devices with the same processor. I mean, will the iPad Pro M2 be supported (getting major version updates) as long as the Air M2, which is 2 years younger, just because the internals are basically the same for the devices?

    • @ThatMarkGilroy
      @ThatMarkGilroy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, I don’t think you’ll need to worry about the iPad Pro M2 being supported for much less time than the iPad Air (if at all). I usually work on the basis that most Apple devices should last 6-7 years before showing any signs of needing upgrades (except iPhones).
      If you’re comparing those two devices the key things I’d consider are:
      - Screen resolution / quality (both have good screens but Pro will be faster, brighter and clearer, especially noticeable with the 13” size)
      - Apple Pencil support. M2 Air will require you to buy a new Apple Pencil Pro due to the layout of the front facing camera, whereas the M2 Pro works with the Gen 2 pencil
      - Rear facing camera/pro res. In the unlikely event you want your iPad to shoot professional quality video - you’ll get that in spades with the M2 Pro.

    I don’t see why the 10th gen should be called the Classic, nothing about it is classic or legacy. It’s just an iPad Air 4 with some changes, mainly downgrades. The home button iPad 9 and previous could have been named Classic though.
    I do think they need to rebrand the whole line. It is very confusing when the iPad Pros are lighter and thinner than the Air, which is near identical to the 10. I think they should do this
    iPad Air becomes simply iPad, the main device for anyone
    iPad Mini remains the same but gets a chip upgrade and hopefully display upgrade
    iPad 10th gen becomes iPad SE, because it reuses parts from the older higher end iPads, just like the iPhone SE

      Just be wary of buying a 64GB unit unless all you want is streaming. The latest iPadOS takes up around 17GB so you only really have around 40GB to play with, and that’s before installing any of the apps you want.

    I use Mini and its a great device with size and form factor. Why does Apple don't give Mini the Stage Manager support either by M series processor or in the same processor itself. That's the only feature which holds me back many times while multitasking or apps which are not native to iPad but only iPhone optimised. Also, it should give WhatsApp atleast similar to desktop version. Other apps like Telegram or Signal ate running fine on it. But as WhatsApp is the most used for many specific purpose its really sas that WhatsApp is not there.

      If you’re bothered about screen quality and weight in a way that would make you lean towards the M2 Pro, I’d still pick the M4 if budget will allow. If your needs are just about pure processing power and the ability to have a 120hz screen, the M2 Pro is worth shortlisting.
