What if Super Mario Bros. 3 used the style of the first SMB games? (SMB3 35th anniversary special)

- What if Shigeru Miyamoto decided to maintain the standard Super Mario Bros. 1 style during the development of the third game?
It's worth remembering that the first two SMB games (2 in the JP version) used the same style. Just with some different and more difficult extras. SMB3 would have this direction until they decided to completely change the art style and game style. Only the sound effects remained. In this video I show the adaptation of Super Mario Bros 3 if it had been made in the style of the first two games. I just forgot to show you how to go to Toad's house that offers items. But next time I'll show you.
This animation had been paused for a long time. Post SMA5 and before Super Mario Wonderland. The last level I showed was the one I stopped at. I don't intend to continue. If there's a part 2, it's just showing Mario dressed as a tanooki or a raccoon.
Why didn't he appear like that?
Firstly, I thought about leaving the game as another different version of SMB and SMB2JP, just with the fire flower and the poison mushroom. And that's also why I didn't make Mario's sprites like that.
But if I do it in the future, Mario will have the sound you hear during the magic wand. The sound of using the tanooki to fall slowly, which I would use, would be the same sound effect as when Birdo throws eggs in the American SMB2.
About development
I started doing SMB3 in this style with just a title screen without the giant block, with the name "Super" centered and checkered blocks on the floor. Same as the original. The fonts were the same as shown there and Mario's blue palette was darker.
Soon after, I started thinking... "SMB2 JP, Mario is in a castle during the title screen... but there will be small castles in Mario 3 just for levels, and the big ones are for the kings..." what I I did? I took a Toad's house and added a blue version. This blue one is just for entry.
Why in the first levels before the castle did you also leave a Toad house?
One reason is because Mario starts SMB2JP in a castle. The second is that at some point I would do that secret fireworks trick so that Toad's house would offer items instead of fireworks. And in place of these fireworks, the mushroom flag would also appear at the top, symbolizing the bonus warning.
But I changed my mind and left it for the card game. (not yet programmed) and the Toads' houses with items became secret exits after flags. At some level there would be another flag further ahead with a Toad house with a Toad next to it, and a small mushroom on the ball at the top of the flag.
When Mario enters the flag that should be a star, is the mushroom one I mentioned above. And in the minigame, the scenery is similar to that seen in the original SMB3 but using tiles from the haunted house from SMB1 in Super Mario Maker and a background inside the house that is all blue. With that unused block from a minigame not used in the original SMB3. And in this block a roulette showing the items. By pressing A, it stops and you win the prize. The background music is from the game VS. Pinball (main level theme). Unfortunately I forgot to add this excerpt to the video but I recorded another excerpt that I will leave here in the description in unlisted mode:

This is my special anniversary video for the iconic and epic Super Mario Brothers 3 on Famicom/NES, which today is celebrating 35 years since its release in Japan. Hope you like it!
This was a fictional non-profit work. Made in homage to the Super Mario Bros. games. in a way that reimagines the classic in another style. I wonder what Super Mario Bros. would be like. Wonder in the style of SMB1? Soon I will do the same with SMB Wonder, but in a much more simplified way than this video. (There are already 3 worlds made in just one week. Who knows, maybe I'll release a demo in the future too? But as for SMB3, I don't know yet)

Meanwhile, The US would get it’s own SUPER MARIO BROS 3! (which in our timeline is called The Simpsons Bart vs the space mutants)

Probably wouldn't happen since as far as I remember SMB2 became Doki Doki Panic in the US because Lost Levels was too hard. But if we're going as far as an unrelated American property like a Simpsons game to modify into a Mario game, maybe this is would be a chance for 7 Grand Dad to actually become a canon Mario game lmao

A splendid job. I believe that if Zelda II were to have maintained the standard Legend of Zelda 1 style during the development, we would've seen a different formula compared to what we got today.
THIS!! is what Super Mario Bros 2 (J) should have been. However, I am happy with the current situation, because without super hard SMB2(J), Doki Doki Panic would not have been turned into a Mario game and imagine newer Mario games without Shy Guys, Birdo, Bob Ombs, Pokeys, Ninjis etc.
Also this 1:50. Simple color change in the background can change a lot. Strange that it wasn't done this way. Strange that this was not done with SMB2(J).
But American Super Mario Bros 2 would still be available. It would just be a little pointless and it would make fans strange to see the game in the style of the first again during the third. It would be very sad and strange not to see the American SMB2 enemies in the new games. Just imagine what Yoshi's Island would be like with Shy Guys as its main enemies? Soon I will continue reimagining the classics in the style of SMB1. Yoshi's Island was considered SMB5 by Nintendo at one point.
I went in expecting SMB3 remade in SMB1 but instead got take on a 3rd SMB, which is much cooler!

1) The sprites made for this video HAVE to be released; I suggest "Mario Fan Games Gallery".
2) The art style change may have come from "Super Mario USA" / "Doki Doki Panic" being converted to being America's SMB2.

The "Hello" form for "Hello Engine" only. And it is very different from the way we see it in the original. That's why I'll only have to put it in part two, as I'll have to modify the physics.
I know super Mario advance 5 is currently on hiatus, but I was thinking about something regarding the extra levels that can be collected. Perhaps you can include the levels from lost levels that method, even the extra worlds A-D as well as world 9 since I think those were not in super Mario bros deluxe.
Also, do you plan to include the ability to move backwards in levels?
They were in the data for SMB Deluxe, but they went unused

The funny thing is that Yoshi it's possible on an NES. We have the SMW bootleg and Super Mario Bros. 3 Mix (SMB3 Hack) as an example.

You should learn how to code with ASM and develop this as a romhack. It would be amazing to see something like this running on original hardware rather than just a PC mockup (not discouraging you from doing them, especially if they're merely concepts not meant to be released publicly). Why are the castle tiles blue instead of grey?
To make a difference in the game. In the first stage of creation, they were gray, but it didn't match very well. The blue color creates a new atmosphere.

As únicas takedowns de copyright que eu lembro da Nintendo fazer nos anos recentes foram muitos projetos em que os autores ganham dinheiro e, por algum motivo, alguém recriando perfeitamente música de Metroid Fusion logo antes de um anúncio oficial da Nintendo sobre Metroid Fusion (são momentos assim em que eles fazem takedowns de projetos individuais pelo que vi). Então talvez você está certo sobre não ter medo 🤷 Eu só espero que a Nintendo não me veja como risco da marca nem que ela esteja fazendo algum jogo parecido com um projeto meu :p
