How to fix black screen problems on Windows 10? So you booted up your computer and you have the dreaded Black Screen of Death? Did you get black screen after updating Windows 10? Did you get black screen after installing software? I will show you how to troubleshoot black screen or blank screen errors. This is a very common PC problem which can be related to graphics card drivers or better knows as display driver. First you will need to know what problem is causing the Black Screen of Death.

I got mad for the time wasted and shut down the system.
I stepped out a bit.
Came back.
Turned it on and it was fine.
I guess it needed a last shut down and start up.

Fix Black Screen After Login Windows 10
Today i faced this problem, I fixed this Black screen.
Open Task Manager>Run New Task type explorer
Then Open Windows 10 Settings >Go to Accounts>Family & Other user >Create New User Login
Login New User (backup all files from Old User & Delete Old User Account)

Thank you very much. Finally, fixed my Black screen. After resetting the laptop countless times. All I had to do was uninstall latest feature, keep up the good work 👏🏾
For me it worked just by restarting
Or Ctrl-Alt-del at loging prompt and select task manager and select "File" then "Run new task" and type explorer.exe in there should bring up your desktop. Might not resolve it permanently but it will help you get in depending on the issue.

Fantastic video. After several hours of stress and going round in circles (on a work day!) came upon this video and fixed my problem in 10 mins! Uninstall updates was the silver bullet. Thanks so much :)
Guys what I do is
1. Open task manager
2. Right click on a task and click open file explorer (it should say something like that)
3. Now you have access to your files just click the one you want to use like Google chrome etc
4. Do whatever until the black screen goes away (takes within 5-60 min for it to go back to normal)
Another great video Brian. Can’t understand why some NUMPTIES gave you a thumbs down? Probably because they really screwed their computers up and your fix didn’t fix their issues. Me thinks maybe they need a Psychiatrist fix rather than a computer fix! 🧐🤔

This didn’t help me at all even in safe mode the black screen comes up and I have no way of accessing anything and I can’t uninstall any windows updates or restart my PC as it gives me an unexpected error occurred message

Today is 10th of January 2024, and simply following your instructions by clicking on startup repair brought my laptop back to life. Thank you so much. I initially took it to the repair shop and I was told I had to format the laptop without backing up my data. I absolutely rejected that idea and came back home and jumped on TH-cam for solutions. Your video was the first one that popped up and also the first suggestion worked for me. Thank you so much, I can meet up with my deadline now.

Control + alt + delete > task manager > more details> file > run > type - only explorer > then press enter .. it will solve worked for me

How much risk is there while resetting the pc with saving our files. Please tell because I have tried every other method and it's just not starting. Should I consult someone from the company or should I go directly for reset option?
One thing i realize how good window 7 was
If I thought the problem was a graphics drivers, while in safe mode I would have ran DDU to make sure all graphics drivers were completely uninstalled before installing a freshly downloaded driver.
That would be for a corrupt graphics driver issue, no need to do that with a generic Microsoft driver. This issue could be related to a issue like that Oletta and removing it using DDU is always a option.
@@Britec09 Question: I have been installing my GPU driver using Revo uninstaller (paid) because it supposedly monitors all the files/registry changes.
Then instead of DDU I just unplug my internet - use Revo to uninstall the driver - and then install the new driver using Revo.
Is this method as thorough as the DDU method?

When I get a black screen with a mouse pointer, that tells me the graphics driver thinks there are 2 screens attached, the one you're looking at and a phantom one that is the main screen you actually want.
Quick fix press and hold the Windows key and tap the p key. You might have to do it a few times until Windows switches to the duplicate option. You could try updating the graphics driver afterwards.

So you didn't uninstall the latest updates? Cause I also had the black screen problem a while ago but when I tried to open it, it suddenly got back into working state, I'm wondering if I should uninstall the latest updates too

Does anyone else have an issue with not being able to access the task bar whatsoever, even after entering safe mode. Ive tried everything on this video and was unable to gain any way to access my apps to try to fix the potential problem. (Had the brand new laptop for 2 weeks as well so im not sure if it could be hardware based)
it was a black and wouldnt turn off for me, then after like 5 minutes it finally did turn off. then i opened it again and it was working just fine???

My pc is still preparing to configure windows to this day
I'm trying to fix this issue myself, so far the only thing that seems to work(temporarily) is the automatic system repair. It's really annoying having to spend an hour letting it try to fix the issue every few days. I really hope my graphics drivers are the problem. Thanks for putting together such a comprehensive list of possible solutions, this is the only thing I can find that actually has any usable information.
Turns out it was an update, damn computer kept redownloading and reinstalling it every time the autorepair removed it. Had to turn off automatic updates but haven't had a black screen since.
@@cameronaberner hows your pc? Mine gets okay alternately. Then goes back to blackscreen. Idk what to do. I was getting my hopes up that its back to normal but when i open, it gets back to blackscreen😭
@@camellearellano9138 It's been working well for me, I did the startup repair thing until it had the desktop and then I had to go to windows update settings and turn off automatic updates before I connected to the internet so it wouldn't download and install the bugged update again but it hasn't had a black screen since.
@@camellearellano9138 Wait, I was wrong. I did the uninstall updates part, it's right around 2:30 in the video, and then I stopped automatic updates. I hope it works out for you, I know how annoying that damn black screen is.
for everyone struggling with this i just looked up on the internet and i simply pressed windows+L and logged in again and it worked :D

Not for me
I have this Problem since about 2 months (four, up to eight times a month). Except the fresh installation I tried everything you mentioned in this video. After a normal reboot everything works again. It also helps if I just leave my account and login again. As I see it, it has something to do with the account - interestingly it happens also with the second account on this PC.

Hi, just wanted to say thank you for doing the internet a service and providing help for specific problems etc, I unfortunately was not able to fix this issue after doing every single method in the end I ended up doing a reset on my Laptop, and it fixed the issue entirely.

Mine did this yesterday,I was online,There was unexpected power cut for less than 20 seconds,All my Electric in my flat shut of,Then come back on again in a short amount of time,My computer shut of as well,I switched the computer back on,Windows 10 loading up,Then got to the login screen,Enter my password,Next thing,It was a black screen and the cursor,Nothing else,Not been happy one lately,Ive just re instored my windows the other day,Ive had to do the whole lot all over again from scratch,Luckly I had all my data backed up,No idea what coused the unexpected powercut

This happens to me once every couple of months and I just start task manager (Ctrl-shift-esc) and start explorer from the run dialog box
restart windows explorer is a temp fix. Seems like you have some issues with windows 10

I was trying so hard to fix my locked resolution and after so many hours... it finally worked! After this, the system was out-of-date and needed to be update, so I decided to update and restart the computer! Little did I know after this, I ended up with this problem and I thought I would have to tell my uncle to help me fix the computer bc I was freaking out! I looked up so many tutorials on how to fix this problem until I came across this video and the "Unistall latest quality update" step actually fix the problem! Thank you man, and you really deserve a like and a new subscriber!
This usually happens when the drivers are out of date, but if you wait for around 20-30 minutes or more, the desktop will usually come up, and you can use your pc after that, and update the drivers, having a software like Driver booster also helps you keeping track of which drivers that needs a update.
Never had to do this before i a bought a windows 10 computer.

When I do anything, and it tells me to put in the password, it says incorrect password. When I log into my pc, it shows it's correct though...
That’s because when you type your password in, you’re typing your pin in, rather than your actual password for your account

@@alexandremouton7169 I can't remember what I did. I think I had to refresh my PC and just cut my losses. Search for some windows registry backup tools for Linux and make a live usb on a different computer. On my next PC I plan to install some version of Linux. Done with Windows problems.
When I open System Configuration, with Safe Mode Networking, it says Microsoft Windows isn't processing
