1. Make sure you backup data before you start
2. Make sure the computer system is free from malware
3. Make sure your computer does not have a hardware problem
How to repair corrupt windows 10 system files
1) chkdsk /f /r
2) ( Run in safe-mode) sfc /scannow
(You need to add angle bracket)
3) (Check log for errors if needed) findstr /c:”[SR]” %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log ”%userprofile%\Desktop\sfclogs.txt”
4) DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
5) ( Run in safe-mode) sfc /scannow
6) System Restore
7) Reset this PC or Reinstall Windows

How to repair system files on Windows 10 offline
1. Use the Windows key + I keyboard shortcut to open the Settings app.
2. Click Update & security.
3. Click Recovery.
4. Under Advanced startup, click Restart now.
5. Click Troubleshoot.
6. Click Advanced options.
7. Click Command Prompt to boot your computer only with Command Prompt.
8. On reboot, you'll be prompted to enter your username and password to continue.
9. Whenever you need to run SFC outside of Windows, you need to tell the utility exactly where the Windows installation files are. On Command Prompt, type the following command to understand the location of the Windows and System Reserved partitions.
wmic logicaldisk get deviceid, volumename, description
10. Type the following command, and press Enter:
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=D:\Windows

Thanks this helped a lot. I did the sfc scan and the DISM online restore health and it fixed my boot-up issues. Then another sfc scan found no errors after. Thank you. I really didn't want to spend a full day reinstalling windows, apps and games.

@@coldsampat3972 so i compressed my C: drive to get more space, and i think it compressed the sys32 files or windows files and broke some stuff and now it’s stuck in a bootloop
My computer did the whole process two times. It showed the "pc ran into a problem" error three times. On the third restart, it all went back to normal. The windows defender not turning on was fixed and there were no more screen freezing. Thanks a lot!
Very Helpful. Used the sfc and found some corrupted files that were not repaired. Applied DISM which was successful. Ran sfc again and there were files that were repaired. Ran sfc again and no issues. Thanks for the help.

After my laptop auto installed one of the new windows updates, whenever booting from start up my computer wouldn't boot, after finding a work around to get my computer to boot I spent the last 3 hours trying to fix the corrupted system files until I found this video which unlike Microsoft's help posts actually gave me multiple solutions to try! @@Sofia-gp5og My laptop auto back ups once a week, so I was able to enter bios and reset my computer to a previous version, which turned it on, only problem is if the computer turns off again it wouldn’t turn on and you’d have to reinstall a previous version again.

Windows tools are always useless. Sfc scan doesn't fix anything, all it does it find issues it cant fix

I would say to do the “sfc /scannow” first so you could know if you have a problem and then do the “chkdsk /f /r /x” because now I don’t know if I had a problem but hopefully it is fixed 😂😂 also I loved the way you explained everything so clearly

Guys if you use a pin to login to Windows 10 and you forgot your password because that's what you need to login in safe mode (you can't use pin in safe mode), than the password is the same as your email address. Hope this helped
You can also use ethernet instead of wifi while rebooting in safe mode. It won’t ask for password of your email and will sign in normally

After almost a week solid trying and failing to reset my desktop I found this and was initially skeptical (yet another 'expert' I thought). Well, happy to say I was wrong. Did the chkdsk followed by sfc then dism.exe and it worked! Took ages (about 8 hours overall) for the 1TB hard drive but it's now done and ready to go. Thanks!
Hi, before resetting the system I would first try an inplace upgrade. Download latest Win10 ISO, mount and start setup, do the upgrade. This once helped me to fix an update loop without loosing any data or program. Also works with Win7 and Win8.

What a coincidence because I just got an "explorer.exe" error after shutting my desktop and I'm afraid it might be a corrupt file or something and I'm starting to see sluggish behaviour..

It has been at scanning and repairing drive for almost an hour. And it is still at 10%
Edit: it takes time i went out for three hours and came back and my computer was rebooting.
Edit#2: windows is not corrupt after all of the steps except for the last one with the flashdrive or cd!!
My desktop is stuck and i cannot work with anything in it. I can only Ctlr+alt+canc to acces the prompt but, when I've tried to reset the pc, i couldn't reset it because of an error. What do you think the problem is?

Make sure you dont have something in your disk drive or usb slot when you restart your computer, this caused all kinds of problems for me, unplug everything but what you need to use your computer and try it out, its so weird what a drawing tablet can do to your windows pc...
What data should I backup before I go along with this process? I don’t really know what I would need to back up? Games and such? Specific windows files? Or if there’s nothing I want to back up can I just go on ahead and follow the video?

Hi, I ran SFC Scan, it said corrupted files were found and repaired. Then I ran DISM command, it said restore operation complete. Yet my game wasn't launching. For the offline process, can you please help me with the command lines. I do not have the copy of the windows on a disk, but in a usb flash drive. and drive title is (F). You used (D) drive for repair. I used your command lines by replacing (D) with (F), and it is no working for me..

Hii, I did the sfc/ scannow thing to my pic, but it still says that it can't fix some of the corrupted files. I accidentally clicked the power button on my pc while my pc was updating for the windows update. Now my pc freezes randomly and will not unfreeze once it freezes. My pc never froze before the windows system files were corrupted.

The number 1 steps is reset all or fix only the windows drive?
Don't need the /r parameter in chkdsk unless a surface error is suspected on the target hard drive.
It don't hurt to run it

I need help, So recently i installed a malware, So i reinstalled windows 10. It was all perfectly fine till my file manager ran into a problem, After i shut down and opened it again, It said that my pc need to chkdsk and it also said that there was a problem. My file manager became corrupt and doesn't load files.
It shows some error if I run dism /online /cleanup-image /restore health.
What to do now. I was unable to install "R studio " which got error like "0xc000007b " error and then i run the troubleshoot app that gave me error to... What to do.. Im stuck. Other things were working fine I guess.
I'm running Windows 7.

Hello, I have ran the sfc scan, the dism, and done a full system reset. During the system reset It blue screens says it ran into a problem and that no changes were made.
I tried to do a reinstall over the existing OS to purge and replace the corrupted files and after it was finished the system managed to fully update but still had corrupted files. :(

Hey there, I've recently been getting a problem where my windows 10 machine is randomly slowing and stuttering in menus and most apps, at random times. I've never had a single bluescreen and the system health reports no issues with my system, so I'm pretty certain its a Windows problem.
I have an i74770k system with a gtx 770 video card and a sata ssd.
(My system is usually flawless, however outdated it may be now) all functions of windows 10 are working, upon doing a full virus scan no threats were found. I recently decided to uninstall an app I've been familiar with a while, called razer cortex game booster , upon reinstalling this, my problems first emerged. Do you have any idea whats wrong? I've heard raze cortez is difficukt to uninstall, so maybe uninstalling it with the windows 10 uninstall button caused some kind of registry corruption? I mainly justt have games on my pc and all my work is backed up, can you suggest anything I could do to repair. I'm planning to use fresh start anyway, provided that would definitely solve my issue.
My windows got corrupted, because I pressed on button in the bad way, and it got stuck, and turned off my PC while booting into the windows. Now it won't even load windows. It just says preparing automatic repair, then it reboots, shows that message again and then it shows, that windows couldn't boot up properly, and it shows me 2 options:
1. restart
2. more fix options
I think I'll have to reinstall, because I don't have any backup or repair options. Fortunetly my dad has a friend (that also made my PC),that is a PC technician, so we will try to contact him to help us make a backup.

I cannot access my ms-settings folder and as a consequence cannot access any files within the folder. I am also unable to do a system restore. I would like to reset the computer, but don't know if it will solve the problem and don't know how to access the reset without the settings folder.

My 3200Mhz DDR4 hyper x fury memory cannot go further, than 2800Mhz. I set the DOCP and reseted, But it just begun to loopstart and than went to safe mode. I guess I’Ll have to reclamate it🙃 I have rog b550 plus gaming and r5 5600x.

Does this fix include messing around with the permissions in the window registry in regedit. I made some changes to the permission / ownership settings while trying to resolve the Error - Event ID: 10016; DistributedCOM in Windows 10. Will this Fix in this video work? Will it revert my windows registry settings back to default?
Britec09 I had data corruption because of a defect ram module, which seems to be a quite common issue, too.
Power outage ruined my system. Came back from vacation and got boot errors. Over 20 years building my own PC with "quality" parts never had this issue bought a factory lenovo think center and this happens.

Backup your drivers in case you have to reformat Backup your registries daily
Backing up your drivers is not that important with Windows 10 and registry backup is very handy

Dear Britec 007, This problems starts in my laptop after unistall AVG Antivirus, MalwareBytes and WinRaR Software, AVG still there in some part, this fncking free software behavior like malware when you unistall it and don´t buy they premium version. In the other hand, Someone in some Windows forums ( I don´t remember ) states that that problems are related to the Windows Defender Update, version 1.297.823.0 Not to Windows 10 Update 1903 ( comulative Update ) KB4507453, Or The Windows 10 KB4507469.

I tried to do what you said, with scan now. I did so many times. Even the McAfee service tried to help me. Everything is working good, except when I try to download from the internet, like a malware, TurboTax and etc. I keep on getting No such interface supported. I tried everything. But nothing worked. The McAfee told me that I have to reinstall windows 10. But I do not have a disk . Because when Microsoft came out with it. I downloaded it from their website. I hate reinstalling software. Because you have to reinstall everything again. So I just bought Windows 11
The DISM option I aready tried with the system scan (sfc /scannow) since the system scan requires the DISM command ran prior in order to repair since it uses the DISM files to fix the missing or corrupted files but when I run the DISM command it gets stuck at 63% and says no source file found
you have to let it run by itself until it complete. I have the same issue, stuck at 63% and I just leave it run until it finished by itself. But now I am having trouble installing apps NOT from Microsoft store. It say the apps cannot be run....
all of this happened after I installed the new updates from windows and my laptop is just 3 months old and seldom use.

Also is it possible? Because right now my regback up dir has values of 0 and in no way can I afford to reset my entire disk drive because I have an essay in it and that’s due in a few days. Please help!!!!!!!!!

I have looked up just about every video totorial, step by step instructions and more on this and nothing seems to work.
Somehow after updating my drivers through a software called Driver Easy, which was guaranteed safe. My computer went from great to awful.
I tried to factory reset my pc hoping to fix everything but each time I try to it says there was a problem resetting my pc.
I looked the error up and found that this normally happens because of corrupted system files so I followed the instructions in one of the video tutorials I found on TH-cam and did Command prompt Run as Administrator, ( Which it only let me run CMP as Admin in Safe mode it wouldn't run it as admin any other way) then I typed sfc /scannow
And it said that Windows resource protection found corrupted files but was unable to fix some of them, so then I tried running the system file checker tool like it told me to, by typing in
dism /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
and it said that it was successful and components were ready to be fixed, but when I went back and typed in sfc /scannow again it said the same thing as before, not only that but I can't do anything that requires Administrative permission even though I'm the administrator, even trying to change the owner in accounts requires permission which I should have.
It won't even let me uninstall programs which I tried uninstalling Driver Easy. Instead it comes up with a message saying, Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
I have no idea what to do.
I also tried doing
chkdsk /f /r /x in command prompt ( in Safe mode) but still nothing.

I have a failing hard drive. If I take data off the drive onto an external drive it breaks the external drive (this has happened twice)

I had windows 10 and PrimeOS installed together ( dual boot ) and lately I tried to update Windows 10 but somehow it corrupted both Windows and PrimeOS and now neither I am able to log in to Windows 10 and nor PrimeOS.
I even tried to re install Windows 10 but unfortunately the windows drive c on which it was installed is vanished and I am left with less than 1 GB space which is not enough to install my new copy windows .

I have a HP that is in the middle of a windows update (64%). It will come on as 64% for about 2 seconds then turn off, and repeat the process. As far as IK i cant pull up any kind of menu. Its been in this state for about 4 days, trying to update. PLEASE HELP!!
