This feels like a summer from the mid70s that I wasn’t able to see at Coney Island as a kid. Thanks for letting this 54 year old see it 50 years later.
oh shoot! What a journey! Lights, colors, sounds... absolutely magical. Takes a lot of skills to create such a piece of art. Japan and now this, WOW. Don't stop! 🎉🎉 BRAVO!
Another exceptional video. I genuinely believe you could shoot an entire video in this style with just your phone and it would still be great. Your eye for compositions are so mesmerising and create such an immersive experience. Just wow 🤝
Amazing bro, I've been pondering starting TH-cam for a few years now and your last few vids have really gave me alot of energy to begin and stop sitting on my Ideas
really diggin this dude, that bolex is a vibe isn’t it 😮💨 love your vision & storytelling in these man, gave me some childhood nostalgia 🤘🏼🔥 (yo btw the pbr in the fridge was a nice nod haha 🍻)
Hes done it again. Amazing to see you explore this medium. Ill have to google how tf one develops and edits a video shot on film but im scared of the answer.
Haha! It’s not like the old days cutting together film. The lab I use develops and scans the film and gives me a 4K video scan. I then just have to cut it up, etc. in my video editor like any other video clip
Love those images, damn they're beautiful. Extra props for the muska board dude. I didn't spot Fred Mortagne in your bookshelf there but I'm quite positive it was off-frame, right? ;)
Haha you noticed the muska board! He tagged it for me 10 years ago and it’s still a prized possession. I think the book you are seeing is Fred Herzog - but I’ll look into Fred Mortagne 👀
Very nice. It looks so clean. Did you adjust the contrast very much when editing it? Have you tried a Pentax Auto 110 film camera? There are pretty cheap. Lomography sells 110 film. The film size is 13mm × 17mm vs Super 16mm movie frame size of 7.4mm x 12.5mm.
Hi there! Thanks for the support. The film lab supplies a graded version along with a ProRes 422 LOG version as well. As for color grading, I use DaVinci and try to stick to basic adjustments such as contrast, saturation, tint & WB sometimes if necessary, and gain/offset. “Lewis Potts” channel here on TH-cam has some good 16mm color grading tutorials that I reference. Check it out!
Thanks man! It wasn’t too complex to color grade. No need to CST, it doesn’t work very well anyways. I just dial everything in myself. I don’t mess with much since the color is pretty much baked into the film stock. I only adjusted the gain, offset, WB, tint, contrast, shadows, and saturation. Sometimes I have to mess with the color wheels if something really seems off. I guess you can work with it just like you do any other color grade - but I like to try to keep it true to the film stock color wise. All depends on your style and preference!
@@illkoncept it’s a 16mm film of Brighton Beach in the 70s very soviet Jewish. It’s an amazing short film, almost like a music video for Shuman’s song. First result on TH-cam when you search
I dont always go to Coney Island - but when I do - it's because me and my homies are framed for killing Cyrus and we have to head back to home turf; all the way from the Bronx
Film is dead. If for no other reason than videos are viewed on digital devices and the conversion from analog to digital causes artifacts. Although there are many other reasons why digital is better.
This is art! I think I have seen your “Japan - cinematic reality” about 27 times and I’m sure I’ll be watching this video over and over again as well!
Thank you so much! So happy to hear that. Hope to create more videos like that Japan one soon as well as more in-depth more photography related stuff.
Love the visual and audio cues working simultaneously together. NYC looks so much fun
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it. NYC definitely is a fun place to be a photographer
Thank you so much for the footage! It's rare to find such long and thorough examples online. Great footage!
Thanks so much! Seems 16mm is making a bit of a comeback, it’s exciting 🙌

Man that fireworks looks great! 😃
Beautifully done from start to finish, this is a prime example of it is not so much the equipment but the person behind the lens
Exactly! Glad you liked it! 🙌

Amazing short film, the grading, the music, the analog aesthetics. I loved every bit of it
Really appreciate that! Thanks so much for stopping by
Love it! I find your work really inspiring, thanks for sharing!
This is incredible work dang!
Thanks so much!
The look is spot on-could’ve fooled me into thinking it was straight from the '70s!
Blast form the past 👍👍
Thanks! Love that nostalgic feel the camera gives. It does feel like a 70s nyc movie or something
I’m so amazed by how alive this feels. Perfectly captured the essence of Coney and the contemporary nostalgia, the music + photos and video ✨
Means so much! I’m glad that shined through. Labor Day didn’t feel as busy as previous years but I made it work. 🙌🙌
nothing will ever beat the real thing! so incredibly inspiring! amazing work fam!

sooo good .. the music choices are "chefs kiss"
So happy you enjoyed the music!
Very cool again! I love the look of this. The place looks as nostalgic as can be, and the 16mm takes up to eleven. Well done!
Thank you! I totally agree. I love how they keep it retro over there 🎡
Feels nostalgic!
Yes! Glad you feel it
Sights and sounds. I like
Yay

Thanks!
Great work. Got myself a Bolex (non reflex) yesterday...cant wait to try it out. Inspirational stuff...well done :)
Welcome to the 16mm rabbit hole haha. 🕳️ Have fun! My only complaint is how bad it hurts the bank
@@illkoncept yeah i know lol, still waiting on my 1st results from shooting super 8 from the lab and already have jumped to 16mm :)
What a heavy hitter. Always love getting the notif that you uploaded
Thanks so much dude. Gotta get to your level of consistency...you've been putting in work!

Muska at one minute!! Now i understand why your videos are so good! 👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼👊🏼👊🏼
Haha yesss. Had the privilege of meeting of meeting him at a demo in 2014
This was next level 🔥
Thank you! 📈
Amazing bro, I've been pondering starting TH-cam for a few years now and your last few vids have really gave me alot of energy to begin and stop sitting on my Ideas
I was in the same boat. I say just go for it, as cliche as that sounds. Getting started is the hardest part…I really wish I started sooner!
Looks amazing!!
Thanks Mark!
Excellent work as always man! Love watching your videos!
Really appreciate it!
Wonderful shots and awesome music choice! 💯
Thanks! So glad you liked the music, too. 💯🙌

Mann such a good video, love the storytelling and the whole intro bit leading up to coney as well. The night footage looked so sick 😍
Thanks dude! Ugh I know. I love how that Nathan’s neon looked. I wish there was more in the city like that to play with 😍
Beautiful🎉🎉
Thanks Logan!
It was a cool project, love the result
Glad you liked it!
Wonderfull!!!!
Thanks so much!
👏👏👏👏 You did it again brother!
Appreciate you Omar!

Nice work mate. Need to take my bolex out :)
You do!
You’re the best man
Way too kind
Yo... the shot @ 2:20 is epic.
Thanks! I liked that spot too 💯
🔥🔥🔥🔥 Dope
Thanks for the love!
Nice 70s vibe.

First video I’ve seen from you and already a certified banger 10/10! Never worked with 16mm, does the bolted record sound as well?
Thank you! Means a lot. It does not record sound. I had a Rode Mic attached to the strap so I could record my surroundings and match it up later 🙌
Chad Muska for the win
Yesss I’m glad so many people immediately notice that haha. He tagged my board 10 years ago and I still ride it

Outstanding. Whats the color grading workflow like with 16? Whats the process of getting it to a log profile of sorts?

Great work mate, was it a complex task to colour grade? Or some simple corrections? How did you start of the grade with a CST or not. Many thanks mate

Good work, bro. Condolences on living by the L tho...
Haha! I actually live by the G, but it was a mess all summer. Second closest train is the 7 hence 42!
hi, thanks for the video! oh cool! Tell me, did you use a tripod or monopod? What kind of swivel head do you have installed? Thanks
Thanks for watching! I actually shot everything handheld and stabilized in post 😬😬
this is amazing. where did you get that instrumental version of Kisses from? i can’t find it.
Glad you like that song! I got it from Musicbed, where I license my music.
established in Milwaukee 😁
Finally someone picks up on it haha! Had to throw in that Easter egg
Have you seen Brooklyn by the sea?
No but you have peaked my interest 👀

@@crabapples1995 I watched it. That was awesome haha. Thanks for the rec!
This was shot on ektachrome right?
No, Vision 3 50D, 250D, 500T
Was expecting to hear Robert Deniro or Joe Pesci's voice narrating it
Haha love that. I wish

I’m so happy so many people know that movie here haha
Huh, I guess getting to Coney Island is way less exciting than The Warriors made it seem. . .
lolol a lot has changed over the years
: )
