So basically, "Ben cooks a risotto and everyone else tries not to get in his way".

Of the normals, Mike was the best boy. He didn't add anything weird to the dish, was content with stirring the risotto, and even cleaned the station.
How about a series where Ben cooks then at some point someone switches with him and now he has to instruct them on how to continue his dish while Ben is blindfolded and can only hear what is going on.
This might make a nice challenge, though! Ben tries to make risotto and the others have to try to ruin it :D
Ben: "They're all going to hate me."
Barry: "Ugh, I hate you Ben."
Jamie: "I really hate Ben."
Mike: "Hate Ben."

So basically this episode is ben starts a dish, takes a break while everyone stirs his risotto.
Pretty much, but it worked and the other boys added just enough of their own touches to make it really work.
I would have loved to see Jamie ho second and just say "fuck that", hides the risotto stuff and starts them down the path of steak and chips. Just to not give Ben the smugness of winning buy restricting them to just stiring his dish while he takes a nice sit down
Punishment Pass It On for James when he comes back, James does the cooking for every round but the other guys tell him what do and he can't say no.

I guess "too many chefs" is a saying for a reason
It's not that they couldn't do anything else, Barry managed to start cooking some eggplant, it's that what was needed to do to preserve Ben's effort narrowed their focus. They couldn't spend more than a few minutes, total, away from the rice and so there was no way for their ambition to exceed their skills.
That is not quite the spirit of the format is it though? Basically the normals could be replaced with a jump cut saying "keep stirring for thirty minutes" here.
I expected Jamie to whack a slab of steak in there... which would jave worked too.

Idea for another pass it on: Everyone makes one part of a meal, just one, has to finish it completely, but nobody knows what the others did until the final reveal. Maybe add 5 extra minutes.

Oh, this would be great! Maybe they all get 20 mins and a randomly generated ingredient and utensil they have to use. Like egg slicer and whipped cream. They don't find out til it's their turn to cook.

I know he's a trained, professional chef but I was really worried when Ben was chopping the onion and looking up at the camera not at what his hands were doing. Also very impressed.
Good knife skills rely on both hands. Your control hand will feel the blade against your knuckles and guide it.This way it really is almost impossible to cut yourself.

@@Alter292 Jaime eats his way through half his time then spends the other half adding things that have nothing to do with the concept of the dish. It's become fascinating to watch what total tangent he'll get on... kinda like the "snacking" burger. 😁😁😁

Theme: The Mole - the guys are allowed a free 3 minutes to look at the ingredients and discuss a tentative plan before starting cooking. Then the first person is not allowed to do any of that.

lol. They will be so excited to talk about it before they start, but Jamie might suspect a catch. Then when everyone else has their headphones Janice will tell them ‘right, you aren’t alllowed to do any of that’ and everyone else will be confused why theprevious person did nothing as planned.
I feel this would work best if the first one to go is Mike.
I love how all the normals were so annoyed that ben had taken away their creativity but then realised that thats how theyd passed, sometimes its a good idea to listen to ebbers lads
But it feels so depressing man... like this is the worst way to pass. They shouldnt feel good for passing this. I say let them do it again and properly this time

2nd: Mike for seasoning the prawns and accepting his fate.
3rd: Jamie for knowing well enough to not screw it up.

I don’t know, I would put Barry in 3rd for that, because otherwise Jamie would have definitely used the Marmite.
And Barry added aubergines. I think he deserves the 3rd place 😁
This isn’t Pass It On, this is Ben starting a dish, three normals screaming about doing nothing for 30mins and Ben finishing his dish. Somehow a passable plate of food annoys me more than the carnage of the usual Pass It On. 😂😂😂😂

The constantly failing in every pass it on annoys me. I don't get why they keep doing them. They haven't done a proper battle episode in ages.
@@cheekiestgore1634 What annoys me is the normals are around two talented chefs but they don't seem to retain anything when it's game time. It's like the "sponge" fails at critical times. It makes me think they should have graduated past "needing a recipe in front of them" by now. What they said at the end and the scores they gave themselves really is quite illuminating to how they think they did. Ben didn't deserve the hate. He gave them a structure that they could be creative, and only Barry really did something with it. These videos would be so much better if we, the viewers, could see actual progression in the normals. I get why they keep doing them, but I would also like to see proper battles, too.

Agreed. I actually enjoy watching them fail. This one was just boring because the ones in between didn't even try to do anything. It may have been a good plate of food, but it really was just Ben cooking a dish. Still enjoyable, just not as amusing as a normal pass it on.

Pass it on with limited ingredients like 5 - 10 ingredients between all 5. Or pass it on with a minimum of adding something stupid like at least 10 ingredients each.
I like the latter one. Reminds me of the idealization of washoku where you need to incorporate a minimum of 31 individual ingredients to create a well balanced meal.

I love the 10 ingredient idea. Either minimum 10 each or exactly 10 each. It limits what the first person can do and annoys everyone else

Barry honestly looks so good in turtlenecks, 10/10. I think only having one chef makes the normals too nervous to deviate, because there's only one "pro" that could be able to fix any mistakes. Can't wait for James to come back and watch the chaos ensue once more.
I love how angry everyone got at the fact it was risotto. This is one of my favorite pass it on videos. Kudos to Ben for being able to do things in a way where the dish he started is also the dish that finished.

Let's not ignore the fact that Barry said he's gonna chop the eggplant into nice small pieces then immediately cuts them into big ass chunks
No, boys, I refuse to rate you: You ALL correctly read what was going on and did what was necessary to make the dish a success. Sometimes less IS more.
You didn't sabotoge each other, you didn't hide each other's ingredients or inputs (hiding the marmite doesn't count, it had already been used), you just kept the dish going.
Nothing more needed to be added: it a DISH, not a whole meal that is required at the end. 9 points all around.
I just decided to rewatch all the episodes of Pass It On and I forgot how much I absolutely loved this episode. By far my favorite!
If Ben DMd Dungeons and Dragons, his players would hate the railroading, even though the story would end up solid.
Yep... he would also make a bunch of cringey and unfunny npc's.

I think this is one of my favorite pass it on episodes. Not because of the dish itself or the theme, but at the pure rage the normals had for Ben. To choose a recipe where there was enough room to add things to it, but there was very little chance to do something to mess it up, was a genuis move on his part. Although Ben did call out how mad they would be at him for it. But at least it's a 100% pass 🤷🏽♀️.

So glad Mike and Barry added on to it. Made the point clear that they are no longer lost boys in the kitchen, and were at least able to further the recipe.
Surprised at Jamie, and I think he was so upset because he was disappointed in himself. He did have time to throw stuff in, but neither added stock to the risotto or any elements to the dish, which is weird cos he's come so far in 10 years.

I actually loved this! Great lesson in team work! Everyone is always so busy trying to standout that they screw everything up. Yes Ben forced them to play ball but I think they can take this lesson and do better in future but with a less restrictive dish

Hi I have an idea for an episode of pass it on! I think it’d be cool to do a fusion food type thing where you start the dish in one cuisine then half way change the cuisine and try to make it fit. For example starting with chinese as a theme (stir fry maybe) and halfway you have to make it Mexican (burrito) so you’re hopefully left with a creative fusion dish (stir fry burrito) I hope that makes sense!! X

The second Ben was announced as going frist and last, I thought: hope he keeps that in mind and plans well, so he can essentially make a dish in 20 minutes with some stove/oven-time in between - and he did. =) Well done! =)

I did love this episode despite the absence of James.... Jamie, Barry and Mike's frustration and annoyance were just hilarious, and Ben's masterful multitasking, quicksilver chopping and dicing, AND narration at the same time is always a joy to watch. But Im forever left wondering what James would have done with Ben's cunning risotto-handcuff
