I couldn't remember what that box was, and had to go backwards to figure out it was the pasta for Carbonara! LOL!!
Now there's a good theme for pass it on. You can only add to the dish. You can't remove anything that someone before you has done. That includes ingredients laid out. If someone else grabbed it, you have to use it. You are only free to make changes to anything you've done (without changing what came before).
Literally lol 😆 baz finally comes through strong for a pass it on start and then.....that happened. Poor guy 🤗
I think for a Pass It On, I would like to see an all Chef's edition. Talk Poppy and James into it, give every one 20 minutes (maybe even 30 so they can get extra chef-y) and then watch them all bounce and pivot on each others ideas. Obviously challenge them with a tough brief, multiple courses but at some point in the cooking for each chef one of the normals comes in and tells them they must use some ingredient that they like (Jamie will probably need to pick some other than bacon). It won't have the usual delightful chaos the normals infuse into a pass it on but I would really like to see how the chefs would work trying to enact their own visions on each other's work.
I actually love this idea. And the chaos of the normals suddenly tossing in some random ingredients give a a good chaotic edge.
Or instead of the normals telling them an ingredient, why not let each normal cut in as we have seen some of the guests do. Oh the havoc they would create.

oh that sounds fantastic, i was campaigning for a similar thing back when james still worked at sorted, just have ben and james (or however many chefs you wanna involve) ping the dish back and forth for a couple of times, 5-10 minutes each. i just wanna see what kind of system they'd work out to communicate with each other!
You know the video is gonna be splendid when the title has BOTH "pretentious ingredients" AND "pass it on"

When and why did he leave?
@@shevahauser1780 a couple of months ago, to pursue other career options in the culinary world - I believe he got a great offer from a restaurant in Scotland and he just felt he had achieved all he could at Sorted so he moved on. It was all very amicable, of course, the lads were happy for him though sad to let him go, and that was the general feeling in the community too.
ETA: last video with him was Chef vs. chef battle - the last supper, middle of 2021, and it includes some details in it.

Classic Chef mentality when you're more than just a line-cook. Imagine if it was gordon ramsay in there and you'd get what I mean XD It's his way.... no, there's no 'or the highway' cuz you just do as he tells you or he'll call you a toiletbrush/donkey/idiot sandwich/etc.
I'm not sure how 5 people where going to take an hour to make a carbonara, Barry's idea wasnt the greatest

I'd love to see a pass it on where each person picks an ingredient before anyone starts cooking and they HAVE to use that ingredient no matter what everyone else picked. The order could be based on the size of the ingredient they chose.

So Jamie would have bacon, Mike would have peanut butter, James the prosecco shimmer, Ebbers the sprig of mint and Barry something to feature on a future pretentious ingredient episode, like a crazy truffle. Though it doesn't matter what Barry picks, because the guys would hide it and give him a cloud egg.
Irritatingly, it all comes together to give Jamie his cooked breakfast.

It’s really lovely that James takes the time to still come back and shoot with his friends, and it’s really graceful of the boys to let James go pursue his dreams but still come back when he has free time. They are the definition of adult friendships, sometimes personal growth may separates you, but you have to still continue to make the effort for your true friends. I love to see it.

@@MisonS2 the only difference between a risotto and a portage at that point was whether to put in rice or oats. And honestly, wouldn't have been horrible if he had used rice (although the end result would have been different, the honey might have been weird)

Having James back for pass it on was a great Christmas gift! The final dish was eccentric, but it sounds quite tasty.

Unfortunate that Ben can never take the blame for making a poor choice. The carbonara would have been great and Barry had a plan for a complete dish. Ben saw it, even acknowledged that he was looking at pasta water and the egg, but chose to change directions. Then he pushed blame onto Jamie for not following his direction even though he had just ignored Barry's direction.

I’d love to see a teamed relay, where they split into two teams and a twist could be to switch the dish (team 1 finishes team 2’s dish and vice versa) and then they can switch back

So glad to see James back, there's really something special in the way all five of you interact and it just brought on a huge smile on my face that stayed there for the rest of the challenge!
