  • Days 15 - 21 of our Pacific Ocean crossing. We resurrect our parasailor only to find the scratches from the hull, when she went into the ocean from Jamaica to Grand Cayman, turned into tears after being stretched. We finally get into a groove of passagemaking.
Follow our families journey as we plan to Circumnavigate the Globe in 3-4 years on a budget of $4,300/mo. We left the US in October 2023 and plan to visit 26 countries and 6 continents.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write this! We read every comment and I take it to heart. I do t mean to complain but show the reality of transitioning from a land based life to this lifestyle. It’s not easy. There are AMAZING parts and I guess I need to show less of “complaining”. I didn’t want be like others who just show the highlights. A lit to ponder😞

I don’t think you complain too much. What you are doing is hard! Even if you love what you do, that doesn’t mean you love it all the time. Passage making is not for the faint of heart and you have really only just begun. Don’t be too hard on yourself. I have no doubt you will find the next one easier or at least more manageable. For those complaining about the complaining, how many 30 day passages have you done?

Don't ever worry about the naysayers! Too many keyboard warriors out there and a strong chance none of them have spent 30 days crossing an ocean on a 45ft boat. There's absolutely nothing glamorous about passage making except for the finish line. It's a test of mental and physical toughness and the effects of cumulative fatigue are indescribable. Yikes, tough video to watch. I've been with you guys from the start and have enjoyed watching Rob turn into Captain Rob and the teamwork displayed from his leadership and your grit to "take on whatever comes at you". I also appreciate you wanting to tell it like it is, but less is more. It is tough out there but that's why you don't see a bunch of others sailing around you. You are an educated woman who has succeeded in her professional career, so apply those skills to the job at hand. I think @Stephanieparent has summarized this video well. I have not crossed the Pacific but have quite a few miles on cats, monohulls, adventure camping, etc with a teenage daughter that have presented some really stinky days which turned into great memories for both of us. (she is now 46 so I speak with some credibility) You need to refocus! You have to get back into the "team mode and out of the me mode". I would not normally comment this much, but you need a kick in the butt and focus on the prize. For goodness sake you are a SHELLBACK. Pulling for you!

This video was filmed after 1 very long stagnant month in Panama and 3 weeks at sea. It was not my finest moment I agree. I want to look back and remember that time and how difficult it was. It helps to appreciate the good times. I can’t show every moment and often I want to be in the moment with Rob & Davis in those special times. Kids are sponges and Davis does hear my words. Thank you for the hugs! It’s been a tough comment day today. Thank you for the questions! I had just come off a 7 hr night watch and was ready for bed. Rob scooped the little guy into a net and let him go outside.
Fishing is difficult (for us) when sailing bc when the sails are up and your making miles it’s hard to quickly (nor do you have the energy) to drop the sails quickly enough to bring in the fish. For us, it’s much easier when we are motoring bc you can easily slow the boat.
Second, we didn’t have strong enough line. Only using 60lb and learned since that a lot of other sailors use 80lb and up line.

I have to admit, we all love our dingy! I was very reluctant due to the price and weight but it is SO much easier for me to use with the console. A lot of other cruiser women loath their dingys bc they are difficult to start and maneuver. We have beached our frequently and Rob and I have not had any problems. The huge airplane style beach wheels would make it easier. Definitely join the Leopard FB groups to help you decide what options are worth it. Me and the hubby have been following you guys since the start! About two years ago we decided to follow the dream and we are within the year, doing the same with our youngest son who is 14.
That being said, I do admit that it is getting more difficult to stay tuned.
I get wanting to show us the truth but seriously, “embrace the suck”.
As time passes we even see Rob loosing his fire. I feel like the complaining from the rest of the crew is getting to the point where it is affecting even the viewers.
Nonstop complaining. Even when not on passage. We used to giggle when the kiddo complained about everything and momma complained about other countries not having the comforts of home. But it is getting a little overwhelming.
Just wonder what life is going to be like when the circumnavigation is complete? You sold everything and retired…but feels like you are trying to get through this as fast as you can, then what? Buy a house, sell the boat, work until your too old to have fun.
Not trying to complain myself, but I feel like everything is going downhill in your lives and we dont understand why two of you always act like you were forced into doing something you never wanted to do.

Thank you for taking the time to write this lengthy comment. This is our reality of transitioning from the suburbs with a child being in public school his entire life to this lifestyle. It’s very different. I am choosing to show the good and bad of what it’s like to make a huge lifestyle adjustment. I am a realist and I see how this can come across as negativity. We are not like Zatara who homeschooled their kids their entire life and have millions to make this as similar to living on land. This is our reality and our story. I am making these videos to document our reality of circumnavigating the globe. Rob & I read each and every comment to provide answers to questions and thank people who have taken time out of their lives to leave a comment. That trait of caring is what made me really good in my former career. This transition has been much harder from Davis & I. As he makes friends out here we have noticed he is enjoying more and complaining less. It’s a HUGE adjustment to this life. There would be 24 hour per day air conditioning and a staff that would outnumber you 4 to 1. You would have no cleaning to do as you have a staff for that. How about an outdoor fresh water pool and hot tub. I bet that your would stay in his room to be online all day and night. This is Cher. I'm using my hubbys phone that's why his name Lester shows up.
I must say momma...do you ever stop complaining? Your negativity flows to your son, who by the way, should realize how lucky he is.
You, momma, have complained about EVERYTHING and your poor husband tries to make light of it all.
My husband and I watch tons of these videos and I have never ever heard any momma complain as much as you do...some even are doing what you are doing with younger children, even infants.
Even when you found the bird in your shower. Most would be kinda happy but you were worried about the bird pooping in your shower! What an attitude to display to your son.
You knew where you were going... crossing an OCEAN...NOT a highway....Oceans have waves!
Maybe you should reconsider this adventure. Try and encourage your son to be grateful for this experience INSTEAD of being bored and entitled. He could read a book, learn a different language, draw or paint all on his own while on passage, but instead he complains too. Wonder where he gets it from?🤔🙃😊

Feel free to judge the day you spend 20 days straight in the sun, in a moldy, dirty "home" on rolling water and with sea sickness.

Thank you for the lengthy comment. My personality is not for everyone. This video was filmed after a very long and stagnant month in Panama and being at sea for 21 days. It was not my finest moment. Not everyone is good at passage making and I admit that it is not my favorite. I hope you had a fabulous Mother’s Day.

So he had to put up with a month of constant complaining. 13 minutes in and I'd had all the crying I could handle. I get the boy nagging, he's a kid. But mom constantly egging him on and feeding the misery was rediculous. Sad to watch Hubby constantly having to Kiss ass just trying to keep peace on the boat was sad. Maybe he can drop you off at an airport somewhere so he can get a minute of peace and enjoy what he's worked so hard far. Grow up lady.

This is Rob. We all have our joys and our pains. Shannon was not expecting the passage to take so long and for the first time started to get claustrophobic along with dealing with migraines most of the trip that would last days. I grew up going out on my grandfathers boats and spending 15-20 hours on the water. Getting up for me at sea every day is not a big deal. For her, she’s more interested in the destination than the days at sea. It’s a challenge and she is persevering though it. This passage is tough on everyone, just in different ways. At the end of the day, she’s my best friend and we always make each other smile!

You are clueless. If a sailor isn't complaining there is something wrong, and they should be proud as they can truly call themselves sailors and Captains, with David coming right along soon enough. 34 years in the Navy , enlisted at 17 and cruised the world in a lot better conditions than they are experiencing, and they are doing fantastic. It's so easy to judge sitting behind a laptop, till you experience a real challenge for yourself. All cruising has its highs and lows, and they are bringing you right into their lives and experiences...it's raw, beautiful and refreshing.
Rob, Shannon and David, we're praying for continued fair winds and following seas on your world journey, one that is second to none.....your are all amazing.
