    The dual stage airbag, such as that used in the D3 A8 (4E), C6 A6 (4F), and Mk1 Q7 (4L) as well as the Mk2 clones (8P A3 and 8J TT) has two igniters that fire sequentially with a computed delay. The B8 platform (8K A4, 8T A5, 8R Q5, 8F A5 cab) appears to have introduced the adaptive single stage airbag, which the other platforms picked up at their revisions (D4, C7, etc). In the adaptive config, the airbag is a single stage / single igniter. The second igniter cuts a cord which opens up an airbag discharge port. You can see the cord on the orange plug of the old one at 3:21. The B8.5 version has a different looking strap, but same concept. Audi's SSPs are cryptic, but it seems that the purpose is to reduce the hardness of the airbag as you smack it in lower momentum events. As such, given the differences in the purposes of the igniters, I would not keep the dual stage in your B8. You are DTC free because the ABS module sees two igniters, but they are not going to invoke the same results with that different airbag installed.

    • @user-AdamSmith
      @user-AdamSmith 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@6lake. Well, play it out based on what I typed. Both airbags have two igniters. The B8 platform fires one igniter for full force and both igniters for reduced force. That's how the 8K airbag is designed, it seems. The 4L airbag is designed "oppositely". One igniter for partial force and both igniters for full force. So I imagine what he'll get is the opposite results from what the car intended, a full smack when the car wanted a soft smack, and vice versa. Again, best I can guess at from the information available.

      @hazemgiballi ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm looking to do this on my G550. The current airbag is dual stage, and the airbag I am changing to (generation after mine) is also dual stage. The connector is different, so people get around this by swapping connectors. No Airbag error code displays. Should this work in my application given they're both dual stage, but they are different connector wise?

    I Just fitted my RS7 wheel today (onto my A7). Was way easier than I expected and cost £10 in tools. All buttons and paddle gears work as normal. If anyone in the UK needs one removing/fitting then give me a shout 🤙

      They are indeed a very good car to drive either open road or around town. Being a wide car parking can be an issue. Just make sure that if its done higher mileage that regular services have been done so you don't get any nasty surprises. Mine has the V8 and ive changed the exhaust system and it sounds amazing. For the features you get its well worth the money.

      @garydavis3992 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@victordavid7944 its not a huge amount of mileage but definitely check to see if the engine has been serviced. Also have the front suspension checked for any wear with the upper and lower arms. Also there is a rubber hat the sits on top of the front struts which wear out over time due to having a heavy lump under the bonnet. These can cause knocks in the front steering etc if worn.

      Chris Martin Yep I went through the same problem. I don’t know the 100% answer to this question. I know that the wiring on the 8K (recommended) and 4L (what I used) was identical down to the wiring colours. I spoke to an engineer re stage 1 and stage 2 he said what I relayed in the video about stage 1 having a resistor first then the airbag as opposed to stage 2 (inflation). He assured me either way the bag will go off provided the wiring was correct so I can’t be 100% sure and can’t give advice and I don’t want to crash the car into a wall to test it even though it would be a cool video

    The A4 B8 steering wheel airbag is one stage with the inflation rate controller. If the crash is minor, and also depending the driver seat position, the airbag will inflate less because the inflation controller will not activate. On major crash, and with some driver seat positions the controller will activate and release the line rope connected to the controller. In that case the unconnected line rope will allow the bag inflate totally. If you change you steering wheel you should get the one stage airbag with the controller. You can use B8.5 airbag and also B9 steering wheel and airbag. The TT mk2 and A3 8V have pure one stage bags...

      PR code 2H0, no drive select, uses 8K1713463, with D and S. PR code 2H1, with drive select, uses 8K1713463A, with just D. (or 8K2... for rhd, such as in the video)
