@erinsmith5837 You could have both, I prefer one story. These are too small to use the second floor as an attic, either. It would just make the walls push out if you put very much up there.
I gotta say, it's very functional. I don't even know this fella, but if he's already taken a fall, I'd be mighty concerned about those stairs to his bedroom!
When I saw the husband carefully trying to sit down at this computer, I thought that this house is already not right for him. The stairs up to the front door is also going to be a problem sooner rather than later.
These type of really functional tiny homes & villages are really so great for older folks to keep being independent & being able to stay at their own home. I love it!!! ❤
I didn't understand what Ron said about the toilet. Can anyone clarify? And - as a former geriatric social worker, if these were my clients, or my parents, I'd be a bit worried about them living like this. The tiny home is too tiny for them to have room to manoeuvre around all that they have in the way. And as for either of them navigating those stairs - it makes my heart skip a beat. Fact: about half of seniors who fall and break a hip die. Yes - it can be fatal for various reasons. I wouldn't recommend this arrangement for seniors who have sensory or mobility problems. But I do wish them all the best, and am glad that they have a community that wraps themselves around them when they need help.
I hope this works out for them, but I'm not so sure a tiny home (scary amount of stairs) was the best solution for their situation. Best of luck to them!
Having that upstairs bathroom is an important safety feature … it really all depends on their knees, their balance and strength. Having close stairs that they’re comfortable with and having plenty of handholds creates a lot of inherent safety. I do hope there’s a long term plan if the upstairs becomes physically unavailable, but getting the regular exercise of using the stairs should help them maintain.
What a sweet couple and a cute tiny home! I’ve been watching ITH videos for years now and I believe these tiny homes should be in every state. I wish we had an ITH community in CT.
I am younger than they are and could do those stairs but the lady appears to be having a lot of mobility issues there & not just on the stairs! I hope they don’t find the upstairs sleeping was a big mistake in a year or so. We all get to make decisions for ourselves and good or bad, I will continue to make my own decisions and so should they!
I am addicted to watching these tiny home videos. A few things that i absolutely love… you can truly see one’s potential and how one could allow their mind and creativity to run wild. I Lovei it!
Love your house. Everyone has a style for sure. I saw the house on INCREDIBLE TINY HOMES when it was being built. Im not a fan of thee patina look, but noyhing wrong with it if you enjoy that design. Fabulous idea with a five inch rise on rhe stairs. I have used staurs like that before and it makes such a difference. Were you able to do that inside. I also am a senior and movement and keep walking is so important. I use a walker for walking just to keep stability as I enjoy doing so. I have a bar in my femer to the hip so mobility is very important. Keep moving, do more movement each day , love life ,be happy. You truly are living freedom. 😊 ❤
Great functionality in the mudroom bathroom! Muddy puppy towels and people clothes can get shucked right at entry in a room easier to handle water and more sanitizing chemicals.
Love the house ❤ & the tiny home communities look so peaceful and the home sweet home feeling kuz everyone gets along and comes together like a big family.
My husband whom I love and adore snores and farts all night long and I CANNOT sleep with him. Hahhahaha. In about 16 yrs we will have completely raised all our kid's and one of them will inherit this home and we will build a tiny home somewhere on the property. Always looking for ideas for smaller homes with 2 bedrooms. 😂😂😂
@@teresal5553 AVN studio? We're actually thinking about building a A frame. We don't need a lot of living space, just a decent size kitchen because we love to garden and do a lot of canning and I love to cook and bake.
I live in a rambler, but having broken my foot a couple of years ago, I can attest to the problems of having stairs because I could not get down the stairs to do my laundry. I'm going tiny, and I will not do anything that requires me to go upstairs, just in case
If I were one of their kids, I'd have a home lift installed for them to eradicate the stairs to the upper bedroom. C'mon kids, chip in for it to make Mum & Dad's remaining years easier & safer. 👍
This video probably raises more questions than most, specifically about safety and aging in place. And the homes look very crowded on the Prairie at ITH. But I wish them all the best.❤️
It seems bigger, but I noticed the layout is different. The bedrooms and the height of the second floor came at the expense of a smaller kitchen and living room. But very functional
Id like to learn more about The Tiny House community where they live. Im a senior citizen looking to move to the Tennessee area. Is there a link to their community?
The amount of house to keep in a double wide is too much. Keeping up with 2k sq foot is a lot more work than keeping up with a 400 sq ft home. Also, heating and cooling a 2000 sq foot home is way more expensive than a 400 sq ft home.
Definitely would like to know the same. This is seriously a good way for many people to actually live in retirement. The best thing is many of these tiny homes are in actual communities where people seem to care about one another. It’s either this for me or I have to leave the country completely in order to live.
I'm not sure seniors who seem to be in poor health should use so many steps both into their trailer and to a second floor. This creates way too many situations for falling. The females speech belies cardo/respitory issues. The religious visual references are pathetic... (Expecting to depart soon??)
So the legally blind person is upstairs, that seems a little dangerous long term given in years to come his health will deteroriate to as well as eyesight
@@saulgoodman2018 Way more common than you think...my husband snores like crazy and is like a furnace...I am a very light sleeper and don't need help with hot flashes either! I have many friends who go through the same thing, so not weird at all.
Not having to go up and down stairs to use the restroom is super smart as far as risk reduction goes!
Yes, especially for man at certain age
Yes it is seen 3 others with a bathroom upstairs❤ so happy for them
Think bedroom and bath on main floor is better. Would just go a little wider rather than tall.

There's a stairs elevator which could solve the problem, quite easy to install even on a narrow stairway like this...

I actually have this home saved from when Randy and Amanda first toured it! I love the layout and it seems much larger than 400sqft.
I really appreciated this video. Getting really old means different adaptations in your home and Alice and Ron have done a great job.

Another recent one in a different channel (with lots of customization, made by another builder) - cost was $160k. The basic model was $105k.
