The BEST Instant Pot Chili - Dump and Go Recipe - Perfect for Beginners

  • Our Mom's Chili is the perfect fall soup recipe. We would have it for dinner every single Halloween and it's a tradition we've kept with our own families. You can also make this chili on the stove top or slow cooker - and maybe we are biased, but we think it is the BEST!
If you are new to the Instant Pot, this is the PERFECT beginner recipe for you. You can just dump everything and GO! These are my favorite kinds of recipes!
TRICKS TO MAKING INSTANT POT CHILI
If this is your first time making chili, or any soup for that matter in the Instant Pot, we have a few suggestions to make sure it turns out perfect every single time.
    Brown and Flavor Ground Meats
Cooking the meat before throwing it in the Instant Pot may not be the case for all soups, but we’d recommend browning ground beef, turkey, or sausage before tossing it in the Instant Pot.
This not only helps with the flavor of your soup, but it also prevents large chunks of meat from cooking together. You’ll have perfectly ground beef in your chili if you take this step.
We love to brown our meat with onions in this recipe, giving the meat great flavor. Other soups may have you throw in some garlic, spices, or even a packet of taco seasoning.
You can also pre cook your ground beef in the Instant Pot. Watch I how cook 3 pounds of frozen meat here: • How to Cook Ground Bee...
    2. Drain and Rinse Your Beans
Avoiding this step could be detrimental to your chili! We’ve listed which cans need to be drained in this recipe, but you can almost always assume that beans in any recipe will be drained and oftentimes rinsed (especially black beans!).
Without draining your beans, your chili will be turn out runny and a little too “soupy” to be considered chili. We know it’s an extra step, but it’s definitely worth it.
    3. Add Enough Liquids
While draining some ingredients is important, it’s also important to make sure you have enough liquid in your Instant Pot so it will pressurize.
The best part about this Instant Pot Chili is the delicious flavors that combine together. The liquid from the diced tomatoes, the Worcestershire sauce, and the water should be enough to keep those flavors infusing all day long.
Don't have an Instant Pot? No problem! You can make our Mom's Chili in the slow cooker and on the stove top! Get the slow cooker recipe HERE. Watch how to make the stove top recipe HERE.
HOW TO MAKE INSTANT POT CHILI INTO A FREEZER MEAL
We get asked how to turn our Mom's Chili into a freezer meal A LOT. Here’s how you do it!
Brown your ground beef and onions according to directions in original recipe.
In a large Zip-Loc or freezer safe bag, combine remaining ingredients.
Place laying flat in your freezer to save the most space. We like to label our bags before hand so we know what’s in the bag. If you’re anything like us, in a months time you’ll forget what freezer meals you’ve stuck in the freezer.
Place freezer bag in the refrigerator the night before cooking to allow it to partially thaw.
Cook according to the directions in original recipe. It’s that easy!

Just remember when using the Instant Pot, it takes 10-20 minutes to pressurize!
Be sure to give me a thumbs up and comment if you would like more Instant pot recipes or tips and tricks with the Instant Pot! Also, feel free to comment if you have any questions, and I will try the answer them the best I can!
This is the Instant Pot I have (yes it is the cheaper one and I love it!): amzn.to/2F3Lznx
If you are cooking for 1-2 people I would suggest the 3 Quart. If you are cooking for more, I would suggest the 6 quart!

Mmmmmm! That looks and sounds GREAT! I must admit though that if I called it chili, there'd be mutiny here in TX. To qualify as chili here, it's got to have chilies (or chili powder) in it (along with cumin, oregano, and garlic.) But it looks and sounds really yummy and we'll sure give it a try! Thank you so much for the recipe. Sounds great with a pan of cornbread made in a cast iron skillet that's been preheated first to give it that amazing crunchy crust! This just might need to be Thursday night's supper.

Soooo, I have a white chili recipe that is a crock pot one. It has canned chix, cans of beans etc. It calls for 3 1/4 cups of chi broth. Trying to calculate how long I set this baby to cook. Since all foods are already cooked its normally a CP recipe for 8-10 slow or 4-6 Fast. I'm trying to convert my CP to Instant ones. Is this too much liquid? How should I calculate the manual cooking time? Thanks for help and I love your posts.

Enjoyed....thank you! Would you help me with the "normal" function ...Hit Manual & I thought it goes to "High"..I will be using mini 3qt(loaned the 6 qt Duo to friend) & just want to make sure when pushing Manual that I live it on whatever it registers? I didn't see in your video any lighted "Normal" when showing us the front... any help would be great... Oh..I just went to cooking video where you cook the meat...all that grease falling to the bottom bec meat is on top of trivet inside inner pot & water underneath... that was Genius... :) !!

All the pots are a little different- but you should be fine to just push the manual. The meat is already cooked, so it is just the vegetables left and they can cook on any setting!

Hi! I noticed that some instant pot chili recipes instruct to dump the canned tomatoes on top and not stir, while others instruct to stir in the tomatoes. Do you know why one might choose one method over the other? Is the “not stir” method just for convenience? Or does that specific step allow the instant pot to cook better? Is it a safety thing?
(A liiiiittle nervous because I stirred in the tomatoes accidentally and it’s my first time using this thing! Heheh 😅 Hope it doesn’t blow up!)

Sometimes you get a burn notice on the bottom when cooking with tomatoes especially if you have an 8 quart instant pot which is hotter and pressurized more.

I love to watch and learn but I have a instant pot vibe and I am trying to learn how to cook without manual since mine doesn’t have that. Could you give a video for us

    • @SixSistersStuff
      @SixSistersStuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว

So you just have to push the button that is your normal Instant Pot Pressure button. Sometimes it is called the Pressure Cook button. I can't seem to find the "vibe" one. Is there a picture you can send me, or give me more details about your pot?

How did you not get the burn food notice? I added a bunch of liquid after the first burn food now it’s like soup and still getting the burn food notice, ruined my chilli

I tried this today. Was delicious. But not sure where I went wrong with my IP. I doubled the recipe. Still did only 10 min though. It stayed on the “on” function forever and never did a count down. (???). Any ideas.

    • @BSKI05
      @BSKI05 4 ปีที่แล้ว

That means it never pressurized. Most likely you was accidentally on vent and not seal, or maybe your lid wasn't turned all the way. But something caused it not to pressurize.

Sometimes you get a burn notice on the bottom when cooking with tomatoes due to the sugar content especially if you have an 8 quart instant pot which is hotter and pressurized more. Put your tomatoes in last and don’t stir. You can also use low pressure and turn the heat down to less. You might want to add the sugar after it is cooked as well. Hope this helps.
