2024 Ford Ranger XLT Review - The Chevrolet Colorado Has Been Put On Notice

- Now on it's 2nd generation since it's departure last decade, the 2024 Ford Ranger is back bigger and better than before with a pickup that's not worthy of the US market. Today we find out if the new Ranger can truly compete with it's closest rivals under $50k.
Huge thank you to Acton Ford for providing the 2024 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 for this review!

Nice review - cool truck, too. I always like cars from other markets - it's hard to describe, but this car really "feels" like it wasn't designed for the US market, which to my eye makes it unique and compelling. Perhaps because it was designed with a sensibility outside of the "more is more, bigger is better" that is very American. Not a knock at all, but an honest observation. It'll be interesting to see how it sells.
I wish the Everest would FINALLY make it to the USA. Especially with the issues Toyota is having, it might be Ford's chance to gain market share in the mid size SUV on chassis.
If they would let me have a 6 foot bed and 60/40 split seats I’d buy in a heartbeat and the chefs kiss would be a flat floor like the Ridgeline
Agreed but then it might be too long for indoor parking for many homes
Well said! 60/40 split will allow potential seat delete customization needed to mitigate lack of space in that 5 foot bed. I for one would love to be able to keep my powertools protected inside while still keeping one seat in second row.
Was going to make this exact comment.
Tacoma and Frontier are the only mid size with 6 ft beds….I like the Ranger a lot more than those two
Totally agree the 2.7L is a game changer (nowadays).

We bought the exact same truck in Black and 2wd. Its a fleet truck for us in our company and after I drove all of them. Tacoma, Frontier, Colorado/Canyon. The Ranger was the best driving and most comfortable for 39k MSRP. I would say it was the second quickest and the payload was 1600 and tows 7500. The GMC was the best looking but it was almost 47k. The imports were terrible. Tacoma too much plastic and very loud on the freeway plus 48k...for what????. Frontier was 43k and felt cheap even with its upgraded interior with all the piping. Terrible mechanical steering, no turbo so she felt gutless and slow. This was the truck I wanted to buy but it felt like I was driving a 10 year old truck with a new body. Maybe the improved 2025 will be better. We like the Ranger so much I ordered a 2.7 Lariat 4wd.
I love the bracket headlights. A 24 ranger passed me at night on the highway and i saw those headlights smoothly approaching through my mirror and I was like... whoa, sleek, cool..... what is that??
Great review & I would loved to buy this truck.

What’s the audio brand they use in 6 speaker setup? I know the high end one in the lariat is b&o
It is not branded. Ford standard audio systems are really average at best. I have one and I am always disappointed to see how almost any other standard sound system on rental cars beat Ford system. The B&O in the Mustang was a joke when first introduced.
I have a 2024 Ranger XLT and I find the stock radio to be really good. It is comparable to the Alpine stereo in my Jeep Grand Cherokee. While it doesn't have a bass woofer in the back, it still sound great to me and has an overall full and rich sound to it. Though I also don't care to have the radio turned up so loud that it rattles all the windows. However, you can crank it up pretty loud without any distortion. It suits me really well.

Great review. I recently got a 2024 Ranger XLT and I am really enjoying it. However, for some reason the tires were aired up to 45 psi when I picked it up which made the ride rather jittery. I checked the door for tire pressure and it recommended 30 to 35 psi. I reduced the pressure to 35 and it rides great now. And the ride seems to have improved even more with some break-in miles.
The seats are very comfortable and I don't really notice any vagueness in the steering. To me it feels very smooth and easy to turn. I also love the shifter as I have always been one to drive with my left hand and rest my right elbow on the armrest with my hand on the shifter. So it feels like a perfect fit for me.
I am also liking the 23 mpg city/hwy combined fuel economy it gets as it goes about 400 miles on a tank of fuel. Though I do wish Ford had made it where it automatically returns to the drive mode you previously set it to. Instead it prompts you on the dash to use the previous drive mode and you have to press ok within 5 seconds or so on the steering wheel to accept it. Otherwise it returns to normal mode.
Only complaint I have is Ford needs to improve the lane centering function as it expects you to keep two hands on the steering wheel. If you dont, then it starts beeping at you and will start braking even after you place both hands on there. So I just turned it off. However, it still shows the lane centering display on the dash.
Overall, I couldn't be happier with it. The digital dash is really crisp and sharp looking, and the infotainment center is intuitive and easy to read. I also love the auto hold feature, especially in stop and go traffic. I think Ford has hit this one out of the park with the Ranger.
Very nice truck. The last generation ranger wasn't nowhere near as good as this one. I have a 2020 colorado and love it but now I'm considering ranger. Awesome video
