Yeah it is chain of festival, starts with Ooc Om Bok - moon worshiping and then Bon Om Touk - water festival boat racing of the Khmer people. For people who never heard of, you can search google for ""thailand culture origin khmer" and look for the article on Britannica Dictionary - the world's most reputation dictionary of humankind to understand how thai siem absorbed Khmer culture, copie d and borrowed many Khmer elements from costume, architecture, dance, monachy system, Khmer scripts, etc... They were celebrating a major national event called the Water Festival, which lasted for three days and made the area very crowded. Cambodia is also home to the largest temple in the world, which I plan to visit soon.
Hey there, so you made it to Cambodia. 🎉🎉🎉..Looks like a mixture between Malaysia and Bali. That studio looks very nice and the price for 2 weeks is a bargain. Free gym, pool and sauna included. Sign me up! Also, do you have to pay an exchange rate when you withdraw cash in US dollars from the ATM? Additionally, good idea to keep your GoPro shielded with the windslayer. It looks more like a small black brick 😊. Maybe a shoulder clip might offer an alternative to hand holding your camera? That Pour Hub place looks interesting 😇😎..A 100 degrees + humidity? A water festival sounds ideal! The way u were inquiring about the girls 😅. I like how the guy informed you and told u to be careful. Very nice people. Im typing as im watching on my big screen TV (via Chrome Cast). Those crowds at night are insane. To make sure no camera/phone snatching occurs, May i suggest getting one of those crossbody shoulder bags with secure zippers for your phone? I saw a bunch of guys wearing those.
I was not charged any exchange rate fees when I withdrew USD, only an ATM fee. Fortunately, my bank in the US reimburses that fee. By the way, that Pour Hub is a bar, and the whole area is packed with bars. Funny enough, I do not drink alcohol or party much. I asked about the girls out of curiosity and to learn more from the locals. It is always interesting to hear their perspective. I am also considering getting a wrist strap for my camera to keep it secure while filming, but it might interfere with the mic. A crossbody shoulder bag sounds like a good option too, though it might make me stand out as a tourist.
@@WandererBell The bar area reminds me of Pattaya. Good for you for not drinking. Neither do I. In your video I saw a couple of guys wearing that crossbody (small) bag, so I guess there would be no need to worry that it might make you stand out as a tourist, besides the obvious (not having an Asian look🙂). For info and suggestion ==> This is the clip I bought and attached to my crossbody when I went out for sight-seeing. The downside was the microphone because the camera was a bit further away from me. However, the clip is adjustable and can be moved up closer. .In my case: I had to attach an external mic to get a clear sound if I was doing my own walk and talks. I did a bunch of those, following your example. I liked how my hands were free while walking. There is one downside. If you want to want to focus on something you have to turn your entire body. So, it's up to what you feel comfortable with. FYI : here's a link to the clip I bought: www.amazon.com/STARTRC-PHOTO-Magnetic-Backpack-Accessories/dp/B0DGPZM225/ I saw a couple of guys wearing that crossbody (small) bag in your video (the evening walk), so I'm unsure if the crossbody might make you stand out as a tourist, besides the obvious (not having an Asian look🙂). I like your idea of the wristband, because It will bring added security without having to invest in bulky accesories. I remember what you said about adding stuff to your luggage. Also, great info about the ATM Fees. I keep adding your info to my notes in case I travel to the same or similar places in the same region. I feel like your channel has become a great source of information for me. So, in closing; Thanks again for sharing your journey. Take care. and See you in the next video.
@@HarryOsirian I thought about getting an external mic, but it feels like too many extra steps. I prefer to keep things simple. Your setup is definitely more advanced than mine. I am more of an old-school guy! I have that clip from the link you shared and used it in Cappadocia, Turkey, when I rode an ATV in the desert. Here is the link to that video. th-cam.com/video/tBHbrZDX384/w-d-xo.html
@@WandererBell I see a bunch of guys with those Røde clip-on mics walking around so I thought it might help. must have missed rhe ATV footage from Turkey. I'll re-watch that one. Glad u got the clip. In my case I'm just doing the twice-a-year vacation thing. I'm not up to your level of experience and travel...yet.😉
@WandererBell At least TH-cam will be your documentation. Sometimes I have to remember what I did last year. The videos captured the names and memories. Sometimes I can't even recall what's in the video.
I think Khmer people give back dollars instead of riel because they believe it's easier for foreigners. It can be difficult for foreigners to understand Khmer currency, such as 500 riel, 1,000 riel, or 5,000 riel. It's normal to use both US dollars and riel in Cambodia. If you are a foreigner and ask for the price of something, they will surely tell you in US dollars to make it easier for you to understand. Normally, if Khmer people ask for the price, they will be told in riel. In some places, if you pay with US dollars, you will get the same exchange rate as you would at a bank. Interestingly, when you pay in US dollars, they apply the exchange rate, but when they return change in US dollars, they don’t adjust for the exchange rate-they just give you the full amount. For example, in Cambodia, 1 USD equals 4,200-4,400 riel. Let me explain: if your meal costs $5 and you give them $10, they might return the change in riel, around 21,000-2,2000 riel (equivalent to $5). However, if your meal costs $5 and you pay in riel, you would only need to pay 20,000 riel. So, if they return in US dollars, the exchange rate is applied, but if you pay in riel, they don’t adjust for it to charge you 22000 Riel .
Thank you for the information. I noticed that when they give me a bill, the price is listed in both riel and USD. Would it be better to ask for the price in riel to avoid any unnecessary exchange rate issues?
@@WandererBell Of course, yes. You can ask them in Riel. For example, 'How much in Riel?' or in Khmer, 'Tlai pon marn = តម្លៃប៉ុន្មាន.' I hope it is easy for you.❤❤

Thank you for watching, Mark. Yes, I managed to get everything done in Texas. It was a busy trip with a lot of driving. I arrived in Cambodia during the Water Festival, which made things quite hectic, but it has been much quieter since the festival ended yesterday. The weather here is extremely hot during the day, which makes filming a bit challenging. I have been staying indoors most of the time to avoid the heat. See you in my next video!
Dear Bell, You won me as a new follower, your videos are great. I also don't call myself a tourist when I'm in Vietnam. I use to stay for 2 months. I would like to go to Phnom Penh. Please let me know the name of your apartment. Greetings from Saigon . Gabi
I have been thinking about visiting Australia and New Zealand for a while now, and I plan to go next year. The only country I have been to in Africa is Egypt, but I want to visit South Africa too. I have seen most of Western Europe, and I am thinking about checking out Eastern Europe next. There is so much to see in this big world!
Hey bro, I heard it’s not a good idea to withdraw money from ATM because of some fake bills. Go inside a bank instead and make sure to film the serial numbers as well

I usually use ATM machines that are attached to reputable banks. This applies to everywhere in the world, not only in Cambodia.
