We had such an incredible time in Phnom Penh! 🇰🇭✨ Would you give Phnom Penh a chance on your next Southeast Asia adventure? Let us know your thoughts! 🌏
The kingdom of wonder absolutely stole my heart during my brief visit to Siem Reap many moons ago... next year, I hope for the first of many deeper dives into the country. The people, the sights, and oh my goodness... the food! Full of surprises, no matter how prepared you may be. A truly magical place imo
We totally feel what you are saying, as we also fell in love with Cambodia. Especially the warm-hearted people and amazing food caught us by surprise! Our favorite was the Beef Lok Lak with that special Cambodian pepper 😍 Did you have a favorite dish? We hope you can return soon 🥰🙏
@@rootsabroadtravel omg beef lok lak was also my favorite dish, that kampot pepper is among my favorite spices! I hear it's lineage is shared with Vietnam, but they're less picky about their peppercorns lol. I was also amazed by Cambodians lychees, the best I've had in my travels tbh
@@rootsabroadtravel That's a tough question! We loved everywhere we visited, but we spent the most time in Kampot. The city center is a bit seedy, but it's really beautiful by the river and the locals are incredibly friendly. What about you guys?
We totally agree with the friendly people throughout Cambodia! Our favorite place must have been Angkor Wat, even if it's the typical and most touristy answer 🤣 It was a dream come true for us and exploring all these temples over 4 days was really amazing 🤩 We only spent 2 weeks in Cambodia and want to return to see places like kampot or Koh Rong in the future.
I love your video about trip to Cambodia it's useful to guide other tourism or visitor about easy way to Cambodia and test the famous Khmer foods. I hope enjoy in Cambodia to visit the amazing places such as in Siem Reap province where full with amazing temple. Have a nice trip in Cambodia
Thank you for these recommendations, we will definitely take a look. We also later visited the Killing Fields around Battambang, which was quite numbing and sad to learn about.
The artist you refer to is Vann Nath, originally from Battambang province. He was arrested there one exact calendar year (7 Jan 1978) before the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime. He was transported to S-21 about a week later with many of his friends. Vann was the only one to survive this journey. He remained a prisoner at Toul Sleng, with his life was spared by ''Duch'', the warden of S-21, and was ordered to depict scenes of life and death a Toul Sleng through his drawings. He became only one of seven known adults to survive imprisonment at S-21. He is the most famous, especially after the publishing of his 1998 memoir, ''A Cambodian Prison Portrait: One Year in the S-21 Prison'', at that time the first written account of life there. He later became an award-winning human rights advocate. He died from long-standing chronic and serious health issues in Sept 2011 at a local Phnom Penh hospital. Although his exact age has been disputed, he was thought to be around the age of 65. ...
FYI - unwanted cats and kittens are unfortunately dumped in the pagodas and rely on monks or the public to feed them. So glad you went to S21 and you were obviously respectful - its a challenging thing to visit but important in helping understand the history of the country.
Hey, thank you for your info, that's so sad to read. Hopefully, they find a 'home' in the temples. The Khmer Rouge topic is very intense and hard to discuss, but everybody should be exposed to it, like you're saying, to help understand the history. 😔🙏
Ooh that's so exciting! 🤩 No doubt you will have a good time there! Have you been to Phnom Penh before deciding to move or will it be your first time visiting?
hi there don't forget to try Phnom penh signature food is Kuey teav Phnom Penh (hủ tiếu Nam vang as Vietnamese absorbed this food in HCMC), bai sach chrouk - fried pork rice, beef loklak ^^
Hey, thank you for the great food recommendations. We already had some beef lok lak and it's one of our favorite dishes so far! 😍🙌 We just love that flavorful Cambodian Kampot pepper ❤
Hey! We have to say the Cambodian people impressed us the most, they truly touched our hearts. We met some of the most warm-hearted people on our travels here. And everything we learned about what they had to overcome in recent history, by visiting the Tuol Slueng prison (and later the killing fields in Battambang), is something that left a mark and deeply touched us. Walking through the city now showed us how resilient they are and were able to deal with their past. It's hard to bring across but it's the feeling we got right from the beginning. Thank you so much for watching! 🙏
Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam are all full of architectural “eye candy” everywhere. The Philippines unfortunatly has none, unless you find a Taoist temple. The Philippines is just not asian-looking at all. It always reminded me more of the rustic south sea island places except for major cities like Manila and Cebu City.
Hey, that's very interesting! We haven't been to the Philippines yet, but we do think all the Southeast Asian countries so far had very beautiful architecture in their own style. Will be interesting to compare once we get to visit the Philippines. Which Southeast Asian place would you love to revisit?
@@rootsabroadtravel I’m living here now. I started out living and traveling around the Philippines for 3 years. Then Thailand, Malaysia and I’ve been living in beautiful Siem Reap, Cambodia for the past 2 years now and obviously love it.
Wow, that's quite a lot of places. Then it really pulled you to Southeast Asia! It must be a whole different experience living in a country for a longer time than exploring as a tourist for a few weeks.
@@rootsabroadtravel Yes. It’s quite different to get out of the “tourist bubble” of superficial, artificial living and start experiencing what it’s REALLY like to live in a foreign country. Just remember 3 words… Research. Research. Research. 😎
