  • Challenger OP has finally released their new pad driver for the Oreck Orbiter. The pad driver is made like the pad driver on the larger Challenger OP low moisture carpet cleaning machine and has a full velcro bottom which attaches with adhesive and staples. So far, the pad driver is working well and I am happy with it. I also purchased some cotton pads along with the pad driver and although I've only used them once, they seem to be working good.

    So I looked up the Challenger page where this mod is located and it sells for $139 - Ouch! (on 3/25/22)
    So I took a wheel grinder attachment for my drill and grinded the little sharp teeth off, leaving just a trace of them. Popped on my microfiber blue 13 inch bonnet and it worked great. It held on to the pad driver fine and came off easily without tearing the blue microfiber pad.
    I may still attach some velcro strips like others suggest, but otherwise it holds fine for me on my home carpet.

      That's a good idea and I've heard it works well to hold the pads without tearing them up. The pad driver you looked up was the one for the Challenger. The one for the Oreck is the 10" pad driver and it's $59. They don't specifically say it's for the Oreck though, I suppose maybe to avoid any copyright issues. But I'd say if the mod you're using is working good I would probably just keep using that.

    Target or Walmart CVS has little brushes with Velcro takes of the little fabric balls!

      Thank you! I am going to check those out. I tried a fabric shaver but it was cutting into the pad itself and not doing a good job. The velcro brush sounds perfect... thanks again!

    That’s for sharing, I need to order a pad drive and pads for my oreck

      I'm still liking it so far. If you do get one, I would recommend applying something like Thompsons water seal to the wood to help keep moisture from damaging it.

      Just ordered mine... I'm excited to use it!
      The pad driver that comes with the Oreck eats pads so quickly it's crazy.
      Also, does anyone know how far the pad driver/brush heads should be going onto the cup of the oreck?
      There seems to be about a centimeter gap between the cup and whatever I attach.
      Also seems a bit tight - I'm thinking about lightly sanding it.

      I'm not sure how far they're supposed to go because I can't even remember thr last time I looked that close. I suppose it could potentially be a little out of spec though. Is it causing any issues? If not, I would probably just leave it as is.

      @@AllAmericanMack I think it might be a potential issue, it's hard to tell.
      Was using the new Challenger pad driver today and noticed that the cup was starting to eat a bit of a ring into the base of the driver - I assume from the plastic cup knocking into the wood driver...
      I also had a heck of a time on the carpet I tried it out on.
      Was all excited because I ordered a big box of pads/bonnets and ended up getting a lot of knocking about.
      Though, to be fair, it was Commercial Glue Down on a very bumpy surface, so the driver might not be at fault in that situation.
      However, it was still a gut punch to my motivation for the day lol.

      I'd say if you haven't tried the new pad driver on regular residential carpet yet, do that and see if it still knocks around. If so, it does sound like it may be out of spec. Yeah, commercial is not a good test, mine bounces around really bad on it unless I use a microfiber pad. Is it still new so that it it's under warranty?

    Maybe a fabric shaver like you’d use for pilling on sweaters

    Hey my friend I like the helpful content!!! What size is a standard oreck pad driver so I can order one for my oreck orb600mw..and what pads are best for high traffic areas but absorbs well ..thanks

    • @AllAmericanMack
      @AllAmericanMack  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the regular Oreck pad driver is 12" and the one made by Challenger is 10". I have 13" pads that I use with both of them. My preference is cotton pads for most residential jobs however for the high traffic areas I like to scrub with a microfiber pad with scrub strips and then go over it again with the cotton. This method is awesome for agitation and maximum soil removal.

    Hey Mack I appreciate for all your videos and information but I have a question about 2” vacuum hose I have been using 11/2” but I haven’t been able to get good quality I built an ETM like yours and it has been working good and want to switch to 2” hose what brand and where you buy your vacuum hoses?

    • @AllAmericanMack
      @AllAmericanMack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my opinion, 2" vacuum hose gives way better performance than 1 1/2, like 50% more air flow. I've bought hose from several places but have liked what Jondon sells the best but I don't think it has a brand on it. If you go back to my steam cleaning videos, it's the blue hose you see.

    Quick question, have you tried your blue microfiber pads on the new Challenger driver? Do they stay on there and mostly centered?

    • @AllAmericanMack
      @AllAmericanMack  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I've used them without any problems on both residential and commercial glue down.

    Try running a rubber brush over the pads. Might be able to move some fuzz balls that ways.
