  • I visit this auto salvage yard pretty often in Jacksonville, Florida. I figured it would be fun to look back on this in a few years. From Nov. 2023. General Motors section. I made 3 of these walk-through videos today - check out "trucks" and "imports".
Walking on rocks my boots sound like the ticket crunching machine at Chuck E. Cheese.

Im assuming that is a pick and pull type salvage yard. I worked at one that the empoyees pulled all the parts. It was somewhat organized. It wasnt flat nor on gravel. Grass and hills was what we worked with. On any given day they have 5 to 7 thousand cars. One thing I never got used to seeing was the cars that came in that had carseats covered in🩸. Even being in the front seat with🩸did not affect me like the carseats did. I loved the job, loved the atmosphere but the owners thats a different story.

That's sad to hear. I'd imagine they crush those straight away but I've seen plenty of wrecked vehicles with all bags blown or really bad impacts without any other "evidence". Thanks for sharing... Plenty of bad stories linger in those yards.
I'll try to keep it more upbeat during my next recorded visit.

@@hairbear72 well if they make back plus some right away they hauled it to the scrap yard. If not the car was put up in the yard taking secrets with them. He did have a crusher come in for about a year, he didnt own one himself. There was so much he said she said with the company and he told them to come and get it. Ive seen cars like that also. Cars you couldnt imagine there be no evidence left behind. The guys usually elected me to he the one in the car to start them. Ive crawled in and out of so many that was horrific on the inside. They say after so long you get used to seeing things over and over. Yet I have so many mental pictures stored away and I never got used to it. The carseats is what got me the worst. I do miss working at the yard though. The basis of our days was the same but we never knew what the day would bring. They(I said we at first) was registered with car-parts.com. We shipped parts out and ordered in all across the lower 48. I think that was one of my favorite parts of my job. I got the pleasure of talking with so many people in places I will never see.
In your video I liked the way they had their cars sectioned by make. Also nicely lined up, easy to get to, cars lifted off the ground for access to the undercarriage and they are on gravel. Shoot I walked through brush, weeds way taller than me, sticker bushes, chiggers if it grew wild I was in it lol. Cars would get swallowed up by vegetation.
My grandpa had his own repair shop, wrecker service and small junkyard. All of his kids lived on property connected to his so I was always either in the garage or having a blast in the cars. Between his shop and my dad being a mechanic is how I got my start in the auto field. He had one rule when it came to towing cars that would wined up being his. If someone lost their life in the accident he would tow the car but it went somewhere besides his place. He only broke that rule once when his nephew was killed in a crash. He did put that car up on the hill. My uncle(his son) was about 8-10 years older than me, I cant remember exactly. He was the uncle that tortured his nieces/nephews. My sister and I was at papas house alot and it was normally dark when we walked home and we had to pass the junkyard to get home. Well my asshole Uncle would tell us stories of dead bodies up in the cars, ghosts that lingered all through the junkyard. Ya he was that uncle lol. We was just kids so when we walked home well pretty much ran we always thought we would never make it home. The dick would even go up and hide in cars, jump out to scare the shit out of us😶‍🌫️😯😧🥺😵‍💫🤯☠️☠️. To this day I scare so easily cuz of his ass.
I did enjoy your video and please dont think you was being to heavy or harsh. You did a great job describing and showing info on how this yard worked. I enjoy almost all content that has to do with the automotive world. I do all of my own repairs on 3 vehicles and so enjoy being under the hood. This past spring I did a motor swap on my 05 malibu with a 3.5. Of course we all know that the 3.5 is a 3.4 with a few minor changes. One of the cars I work in is a 03 Montana 3.4. I kept my core engine when I replaced the engine for spare parts. The tensioner went out on the montana. So I grabbed the one of my Malibu fit perfect. Then the alternator went bad on the Montana. Again I used the one off my core. Only difference was where the plug was. The wiring harness had enough give it worked great. Now the job of replacing the alternator wasnt too much fun. Being a mini van and the alt being in the back it took longer to take off so much shit, taking the front motor mounts off so I could throw the motor forward so there was enough room to get it out.
Sorry for talking your ear off. As you can tell I have oil running thru my veins and cars are a topic I enjoy. Look forward to the next video.
