this game is very wonderful, a really inspiring game for me. it's so ambitious for its time and is so full of small details ive still found new ones in a few of my recent 30+ playthroughs.
Eh, in the sense that it's a platformer on the NES, sure. Probably leans far more towards Mega Man than Kirby, if we're talking difficulty (Yumetaro also shares the jumping animation, death explosion, and absolute weakness to spikes), but Gimmick's main thing is finding hidden treasures, which you can really only do if you master the bouncing star attack. This is already a deceptively hard game, and getting the true ending is harder still. The game also boasts an absolutely beautiful soundtrack and gorgeous spritework. It's a really well-crafted game.
Definitely one of the best NES games!!! It's on my wish list for buy it someday, even if I don't live in the regions where it was released. First time I see all the bosses of this game. Some of them look extremely hard!!!
@@randomnerd4600Once you manage to hit the boss once and knock it back, jump onto its platform and keep attacking it. It’ll be easy after you knock it back once.
Any NES emulator worth their salt nowadays allows you to enable infinite sprites, thus removing the sprite flickering. Inauthentic? Yes. Does it solve the problem? Yes.
I think a lot of the flickering here is also made much more noticeable by this being recorded and uploaded to TH-cam, as a lot of things that normally appear transparent in motion just appear invisible instead as the video misses the frames where they render.

Does anyone know the back story to the final boss? He looks like Pui Pui from the Buu Saga. 😁
@@edwardgaines6561 Pui Pui is pushover.Final Boss is more like Jedi Master.
the pirate looks more like a captain with the name captain lightsword

Ah yes, my favorite pair of bosses
*Laser artillery scissors and Multi-legged walking mechanism*
Great music! Sunsoft always have good soundtrack in their games
So, the final boss is vampirised Batman, except that's a costume and he's actually a generic tokusatsu hero with a lightsaber.
So it’s actually Hatsune MIKU but she’s actually a seashell
Man that music for the floating island screen sounds almost too advanced for 8-bit, reminds me of early Genesis games. The bass is crazy
the SB5 sound chip is a damn great audio upgrade

"Authentic entertainment, realistic another world".
Next screen: Floating island.
Sounds realistic enough for something that's explicitly not in our world. ;3
Alongside Kirby's Adventure, Gimmick is (technically) the most impressive game for the NES.
Ever heard of mega man 6?
Too bad it's not well-known.
@@edwardgaines6561 i agree. Well the attack is like the pharaoh shot but it has infinite ammo
@@slash6814 oh, i forgot that megaman 6 was for the nes/famicom

Mr. Gimmick for Smash!

@@amso7169 lmao
gimmick is the game world
So we have all these cutesy blob bosses... then there's Mini Gear and Mr.Sentai Villain over there... makes sense.
@JayDon-gp5yc Ah ok, thanks for the context, here's to hoping it's sequel is equally strange and interesting.
Reminds me of Kirby!
Holy Lonely Night!
Captain of the Contrarians 👌

The graphics and music were too good, worthy of the SNES! It's a shame Mario took off instead of Mr. Gimmick.
The Mario serie is more iconic that's why
@@ikagura Mario just came first in the 80s that's all. Nobody remembers the stragglers in history.
Okay this is an adorrable game :3
What a coincidence recently I met the game by Mario Crossover, and both the story and the music of this game made me fall in love

the idea of a boss having 2 phases in this game was mindblowing for me honestly

I also kinda got that vibe, it has allot of love and ambition put into the game just like cave story, so that might be why.

This game has some great graphics for the NES, but all that sprite flickering from everything going on looks like it would cause some major problems.

the first boss is hard if you cant aim with the star
I assume y'all use something on the Emulator to clean up the frame rate? These NES games look wayyy too crisp/smooth.
nope the nes games were just well optimized. i mean, there is not optimization possible when youre using assembly.
It looks so awesome it suffers from sprite flicker!
what flicker? i see no sprite flicker there, only scanline sprite cap
