+Shadowserg, now I know the FIRST names of these characters. The main protagonists are obvious because I watched the "Simpsons," and their names are mentioned frequently. Either I didn't know that Charles is the first name, or I just forgot it.
The fact that this game was made when the show was only on its second season is pretty cool. A lot of earlier character designs and great source material from actual episodes of the show as well as originality from the developers that fit very well with The Simpsons’ style. Even seeing the “Life in Hell” characters as enemies was a neat little reference.
Marge, in certain damage sprites, shows off the pair of Life-in-Hell-style bunny ears that Matt Groening originally intended to be hidden under her hair. (Never even noticed that myself, just saw it on another channel recently...!)
LaddyBell then explain why on one of Just2Good’s videos he said that when there was LEGO Simpsons coming up, people flipped out, protested, and said that LEGO should cancel Simpsons because of the vulgar, adult content from the show, and that in 2005, when I was 16 years old, my mom said I can’t watch it.
I'll never forget playing this classic game at Chucky cheese way back in the early 90s when it was brand new. I remember me and three other kids all teamed up and flipped this game together. It was the coolest thing I'd ever played at that point. 4 player Co op was unheard of. We had a blast. We each took on the persona of the characters we played as. And played as if we were the simpsons family. It was one of the best memories of my childhood! We all hugged and celebrated together when we defeated Mr Burns!
This was fantastic fun getting 3 of your mates to come play. Spent tons of money trying to beat it and finally did one day. We felt like gods of the arcade that day lol. By the final stages we drew a crowd who wanted to see what happens when you get that far.
Ah , i noticed every Simpsons attack has its own style. Marge got a longest attack range while it takes longer time to defeat bosses. Homer deals most damage while having a shortest range out of the four. Bart has fastest attack sequence, while he was the most squishy out of the four. Lisa is the balanced one , no effectiveness or weakness.
All the Simpsons do the same damage. One afternoon I counted how many standing attacks they take to beat the first boss, they all took the same number.
At the time, this game, with its music and visuals, captured the essence of the cartoon almost flawlessly. No wonder it is one of the most beloved beat'em-ups of all time.
I always thought it was funny how Mr. Smithers and Mr. Burns sounded nothing like they did on the show. Same for some of the villians in Konami's Ninja Turtles arcade game.
Ah, I remember playing that arcade game with some random dude a couple days ago. He was just playing and I just decided to join. We got to stage 5 and we kept on playing. My card ran out unfortunately, but he swiped for me and I got to play still. He was a nice being. Unfortunately, after a couple minutes later, both of our cards ran out and we got a game over. I shall not forget that nice moment
Too bad they didnt wait a few more seasons so there'd been more villains for the boss fights. I'd have liked to see Sideshow Bob (he does appear but as an NPC), Fat Tony, Hank Skorpio, or Funzo as bosses
I'm sure many people know this already, but Marge was originally supposed to be a rabbit, with her tall hair hiding her rabbit ears. They eventually decided against that (and Marge has been shown with her hair down many times in the series). But it's worth mentioning here because... 4:08.
It's a reference to one of MG's old cartoons with rabbits. He originally wanted to end the series by revealing that Marge was one of these rabbits, and has hidden her identity through the entire series. This plot idea was ultimately scrapped.
Well I guess Matt didn't think that The Simpsons would last that much, also nother scraped idea was that Homer was going to be Krusty but that got canned too
Yeah, the Marge thing was far out (there was supposed to be lots of rabbit people disguised in Springfield) and it's sad they didn't explored the Homer thing, the original intent was to show how Bart was disrespectful and mean to his dad but ironically Krusty was his hero and he admired him not knowing it was his dad all along much to the frustration of Homer (the whole Krusty thing was going to be a secret he kept from his family)
I love how odd this game is, and how Konami only had so much source material, so they thought that Smithers was some sort of deranged maniac who’d kidnap a child for a diamond that he stole from a jewelry store, and Mr. Burns would have a giant mech. Also the voice for Smithers is odd.
That's because The Simpsons really was not really defined. The atmosphere was more cartoony and quirky, not too far off from the Ullman shorts. I would say season 4 is when the show truly formed it's identity.
I miss always playing this at the skate arena in the late 90s when my school did roller skating parties 😅 And hearing Backstreet Boys and Destiny's Child blaring in the background. I want to go back
It has aged really well and it's still quite fun, and a memory of both when The Simpsons used to be great, and of the years it seemed Konami could do only gold. One of those games it'd have been great to show some gameplay in two or more, because of the combined attacks. However, the developers must have had not a complete idea of the series, since Mr Burns and Smithers become typical cartoon villains for some reason; they also couldn't help but put a "Japanese" section and boss!
The show was only in its second season when it came out, so they didn't have a lot to work with. And even then, they use a lot of stuff, including various one-shot characters and even Matt Groening's previous 'Life In Hell' comic characters.
DaveQB Konami also put a Japanese level in the NES port to TMNT 2 Arcade Game. Personally I don't mind the culture, as it's a nice a break from the American appeal. No, I'm not a weeb.
Yeah they only had really early stuff to work off of, that's why Marge is still secretly a rabbit, Bart's shirt is still blue, Sideshow Bob is just a random food NPC, etc I'm kinda surprised they already had Dan Castleneta for Homer.
i still have it 8bit scorpion and seven feel bad for you but you can play this online on the arcade version i like the japan one cuz its easy defeating the bosses

I remember the original arcade. Holy shit it was a phenomenon back in the day. Both the game and the show. No one would ever think that it would have continued to exist in 2018.
You guys clearly don't remember the arcade game, Family Matters: Blood Libel, by Tecmo. It didn't do too hot in the arcades but damned if that Aunt Rachel didn't have some sweet combos.
This is honestly a rather strange game in hindsight. For starters, it's a full-blown beat-em-up based on an animated sitcom, so not exactly what you'd call an action-packed show. And it's solely based on the first season of the show, which goes to show just how popular the show was when it just got started even though it's agreed it really started to get good in the second season. But that in turn makes this whole game feel weird with how it uses its characters, what with a lot of popular mainstays as barely cameos and the bosses are mostly extremely obscure characters with barely a minute of screentime. Like, imagine if Konami made this game a year or two later, I imagine it would've become a less jarring experience when playing it nowadays.
I remember this video game! Used to play it whenever I could find it. Whether it was in a movie theater, Nathan's or a pizza parlor! Loved this game, those were the days!

Can you imagine if they made a modern version of this? It be amazing like shredders revenge. The bosses I would want: - Comic book guy using hero powers - moe throwing you out of his bar - side show Bob - Ralphie in a super cop armor - duff man - the bully kids - apu fighting you since the show took away his voice and blaming the Simpsons
I would love to see something like that. And don't forget that this game was made when the show was only on its second season, and by people who weren't particularly familiar with the show, hence a lot of missed opportunities for established Simpsons characters to be bosses (like in Moe's Tavern or the TV station).
4:38 to be fair, being whipped by skipping ropes would really hurt. and a child with skipping ropes could quite easily beat up an adult as drunk as depicted here
How Mr. Smithers fought while he was close to the KO reminded me of the super battle tank in Twin Cobra in the fourth level. Scattering the shots. The boss fights reminded me of the hit-and-run attacks that I used on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Without damage? That was amazing.
What makes Konami arcade beat em up bosses challenging are the fact they can land a hit or a projectile at any random moment regardless of you giving them all the hits that should’ve stunned them, and the key to succeeding them without dying is keeping track of how many hits you’re giving them while at the same time, know what to expect from their incoming attacks.

lobot means butt in filipino
I would still play this game today if I could this game is a throwback
Can you imagine if they made a modern version of this? It be amazing like shredders revenge. The bosses I would want:
- Comic book guy using hero powers
- moe throwing you out of his bar
- side show Bob
- Ralphie in a super cop armor
- duff man
- the bully kids
- apu fighting you since the show took away his voice and blaming the Simpsons
I would love to see something like that. And don't forget that this game was made when the show was only on its second season, and by people who weren't particularly familiar with the show, hence a lot of missed opportunities for established Simpsons characters to be bosses (like in Moe's Tavern or the TV station).
I remember beating this with a friend a long time ago. Worth using most of those quarters we found earlier that day.
If I Remember Correctly I Played This Game With My Friends! It Was So Fun! Ah The Good Memories At That Arcade
Great vídeo, Shadowserg!
Has anyone noticed that Mr Burns was abnormally bigger than the Simpson family? Literally 2,5 meters tall overall
Mr.burns took some of his radioactive material and became bigger hehe kind of like super shredder did in turtles in time.
how do you get no damage? like I’m always using patience like you do, but they hit me before I could have a chance to land a punch!
Drunkard is Moe's alter ego, lmao.
Burns after be defeating for homer simpson: You're fired!!!
Homer: DO'H!
Burns: Smithers. Who defeated me?
Smithers: Homer Simpsons
Burns: Who?
Ah, memories. My brother and I beat this in a real arcade as kids... I think we burned through an huge bag of quarters to do so, lol
Thanks for watching! Enjoy!:)
Boss List
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
00:52 - Werner Von Brawn
02:10 - Krusty Balloon
03:16 - Mobsters
04:30 - Drunkard
05:29 - Bear
06:51 - Bowling Ball
11:08 - Kabuki Actor
12:43 - Waylon Smithers
14:04 - Mr. Burns (Final Boss)
17:32 - Ending & Credits
4:38 to be fair, being whipped by skipping ropes would really hurt. and a child with skipping ropes could quite easily beat up an adult as drunk as depicted here
Being hit by a skateboard or vacuum cleaner doesn't tickle either.
Now that i think of it
How did homer not got fired after beating the shit out of burns?
He says "excellent", so I think he was impressed.
Why? Because Homer crawled back to Burns through the "doggy door." And he said "You're here *FOREVER!"*
Because Burns always forgets who Homer Simpson is.
I haven't played this game in years...
OH MY GOD!
13:52 So Smithers just did a suicide bombing...
Negasonic Teenage Warhead allahu akbar?
Shaun Blyth Kamikaze!
Man, Homer has the guts to kick Mr. Burns in robot suit despite having a fist as a weapon 😎
Awesome
SO THIS IS WHERE THE JERMA SOUND IS FROM
What makes Konami arcade beat em up bosses challenging are the fact they can land a hit or a projectile at any random moment regardless of you giving them all the hits that should’ve stunned them, and the key to succeeding them without dying is keeping track of how many hits you’re giving them while at the same time, know what to expect from their incoming attacks.
Estaría muy padre que esta aventura de los Simpson del videojuego la sacaran en una película.
6:22 (Homer’s idle animation) is so funny. Great video though.
I spent more quarters on this game than I can rightly remember...
This brings back childhood memories. I played this game to death when I was younger.
Este juego me encantaba . y me trae tantisimos recuerdos
A mi igual xD
The Simpsons was genius back in the day, and this arcade game was too! I still wonder how you can die in the dream stage...
El que diga que contra es el arcade mas dificil es porque nunca jugo este gran clasico
I remember this game so much. When I sleep, the moving background thingy makes me feel calm for some reason. I mean the moving background as this by the way, 8:45.
2:11 "Can't sleep... Clown will eat me! ....can't sleep... Clown will eat me!" :P
I remember playing this game in an arcade as a kid. Hard as hell to milk quarters from you of course!
I remember beating yhis exactly ONCE in the arcades. It cost me over $15 in tokens.
*MARRIED WITH CHILDREN* should have gotten a Konami beat 'em up too. I know they would've done a great job on it.
LOL
I remember playing this game with my friends... We even beat the final boss! Good times...
When I played the game Smithers and Burns robot boat form were WAY faster, do you have some bootleg PC version?
