I love how the remake uses the arranged music but keeps the original sound effects.
There's just something I like about when computer generated sound effects are used with CD quality music.
not quite the originals as they sounded on the famicom, due to output filtering and stuff, but these are processed forms of pre-output emulated playbacks of the sounds. still a LOT cleaner than you'd actually hear on the console, but also the original sounds were *perfect* so using them like this is amazingly good respect for the original
When it comes to generating sound on this the sound chip is HD well I don't know the sound chip for this anyway sound chip (2) is the NES sound chip?
I think changing the final boss from a generic lightsaber guy into a generic magical waifu kinda removes the bit of subtle storytelling from the original. Since all of the enemies are the girl's forgotten toys, of course it would make sense that the final boss would be the most neglected toy of all to a little girl who clearly likes cute things: an action figure of a cool hero.
Also something about the UI graphics feels weird to me and I can't put my finger on it.
about the UI: it's not seperated from the game world. the original game had it in a little window below the play area, whereas here it's overlaid on top of it
Would you say it kind of removes the *gimmick*

あんなに苦労したステージ５のボスをあっさりと・・・凄い。
That final castle level reminds me of Mont-Saint-Michel in France. Very cool and aesthetic stage.

The graphics in this remake remind me of the Game Boy Advance because of how compressed the status bar is.

Yumetarou's original NES sprite are reflected within Mary's eyes was a nice touch and a nod to the original game.
I also don't remember the kidnapped girl being an 18 year old. She looks like she can play in the WNBA with those legs.

This is speculation,
The designer realized that the original version of NES was a wall that could never be overcome,
I felt the intention to develop the production unique to the arcade version.
I cannot deny the feeling that it was made in anticipation of negative opinions coming in advance.
Probably if the NES version was not installed
The designer may have faithfully reproduced the NES version of the production.
For those who cannot accept the remake version,
It has the potential to become a companion to the Ohagis.
This remake is a work that makes me think about various things.

Too bad this wasn't re released to consoles. Original sold very poorly, because it was very late NES game and SNES was thing then. I'm surprised that it has been re-released at all.

Funny is that Mr. Gimmick! and Waku Waku 7 were made by SunSoft.
So I guess they redesigned the final boss just to make a reference to Tesse.
Surprised how everyone else figured that was a "generic enemy waifu" except for you and some of us, myself included.
I had a feeling that Tesse was being referenced in this game, since she also made an appearance in Blaster Master Zero 2 and 3.
I guess you can't have a guy remake a game with a girl in it *without* sexualizing her in some manner.
The original character was a child, for god's sake.
I was gonna make an outrage mob joke but holy crap the bra/panty shots were completely unnecessary and soured an otherwise very impressive re-imagining of the game.

I just assumed exact mix takes place in the future, like she's reminiscing about the past as an adult.
They patched out the weird sex stuff, but they did a pretty poor job and you can still see it in a few frames here and there.

Can someone port this version to modern systems and PC? That would be cool. At least the NES version is now available though.
So I assume this version as well still has the Gimmick (Heh) that requires perfect run for true ending: All secret items, no continues used, etc.

@terrydavis146 I've played other 2D platformers, too, such as the original Sonic, the Hedgehog games, Donkey Kong Country, and the original Rayman on the original Playstation (which by the way, that game is hard as hell).

結局、ラスボスの目的はなんだったんだ･･･
新しいぬいぐるみが来たことで自分達が構って貰えなくなる…そう思ってマスターである女の子を異世界に連れ去ったと記憶しています。
ついでに言うとラストのシーン、女の子に食料が差し入れられてました。恐らく危害を加えるつもりはなく、ただ一緒に居たかっただけなんでしょうね…(*>△⊂)

しかし、先輩ぬいぐるみの嫉妬にしては、ラスボスが人の姿がしてるのは変だし
ましてや今回の女性型は全く理解不能なのであります。

そもそもステージ7がどういう場所なのかが重要だと思っています。
ラスボス以外に人影が全くなく、廃墟と化した城に敵意や攻撃性が殆ど無い、非戦闘用と見られる生物が住み着いている描写のみ。
説明書によると3面ボスのヤドカマは「何者かによって大きく育てられた」とあるが、ヤドカマの同種と思われる大きくない個体も見られるので、ラスボスによってそれが戦闘用に大きく育てられたのがヤドカマ、という可能性がある。
オリジナルのラスボスは肌もアンデッドの様な灰色、やられる際にはガラスの様に飛散して雪のように降る。
彼の最期と思われる演出と同時に飛行石…のようなものが砕け散ってそこから急いで脱出する描写になるため、恐らく彼と石は小さくない関係で繋がっている。
個人的には、
「異世界で昔滅んだ城の王子が亡霊として城に残り、再建を目指した」
↓
「他の世界で妃を探している時に見つけたのが、ぬいぐるみ好きな女の子」
↓
「その時、ぬいぐるみ達は自分達が蔑ろにされる不安を抱いていた」
↓
「その感情を利用して、本来動けない彼らに魔法をかけ、誘拐に導いた」
こんな流れなのではないかと考えています。
元々、天空の城ラピュタからの影響も指摘される作品なので、その線はあると捉えています。
