I have had Ragdolls for 17 years and currently have 3. I have found the best way to combat the fur around my home is spend money on getting a Dyson (Animal). Sometimes I leave the Dyson out and plugged and ready. I also have a Dyson handheld that I only use for tapestry - bed, sofa and fabric surfaces - that has the wide tapestry tool. It’s amazing how much fur and dust that handheld sucks from the bed and sofa. I also have pet beds or throws that have a slippery surface on the sofa to minimize the fur. And I have dramatically reduced black from my wardrobe. 😁
Exam gloves (that you can buy in the drugstore wound care section) are magnets for cat hair. Since it's a glove, it's easy to get into crevices with your fingers or mold your hand around the edge of a cushion, etc. And when you are done, just pull it off, inside-out, and toss it.
We solved the hair problem this way: knowing cats love a routine, our long haired cat is fed only at sunset (which brings him home & he’s locked in overnight till dawn) and he is brushed before being fed. It only takes 2/3 minutes, tops. He now knows the routine - brush first, eat second. Every night. Fur on floor & furniture: minimal.
That works! Yes they do like routine. Good plan I'm glad it works. Yes, I notice a difference in the amount of fur floating around when they are brushed more often.
Yep. Fur from one end of my house to the other. I clean regularly and have hardwood floors without carpet except for small carpets at entrance ways, but that's it. It's worth it, but it can be a lot of work. I'm just become accustomed to it over the years. Kind of a fact of life for me!

A local shelter just got a purebred Ragdoll, and I’ve been dreaming of having one since I was little! This was super informative, I want to make sure mine feels clean and loved haha :)
Lucky you! You got to rescue a cat that was a Ragdoll! My daughter rescued a purebred Sphinx that was turned into a shelter. He's the most adorable sweetest boy... much like a 2 yr old child! Keep us posted on her progress.:)
"keep their sleeping stops cleaned up" oh honey my ragdoll sleeps on my bed. She sometimes there's so much fur that I think I'M going to have a furball. Ivy is 4 years old and she's never had a hairball before.
Just adopted a 1.5 Yo rag doll from a lady who had Covid is now in assisted living. She gets along with my small Persian and is less cuddly than expected. I believe she will be more affectionate as she gets a little older. Rest addition to our family.
I just got a ragdoll from a rescue and he is adorable and cuddly! He sheds a lot but very easy to comb. Do you ever give them a bath? He never goes outside like my pekingnese but was wondering about bathing them for their skin.... pantaloons lolol.
Hi. My cats are given a 100% raw diet, a balanced blend of muscle meat, bone and organ, specifically formulated for cats. I buy a good selection of about 8-10 different blends and rotate them, to avoid allergies and boredom. Makes their fur spectacular.
I no longer make my food. I'm in Canada and I buy Big Country Raw. They have lots of blends especially for the needs of cats. I've been buying this brand for 2.5 years now and am quite happy with the results. Easy to serve up and store too. I find it cost effective, as they need so little of it.
Yes, they do unfortunately. It is not the best for a cat especially their little kidneys. It keeps them in a low state of dehydration which will harm the kidneys sooner or later.
My RagDoll is no problem with hair and like you said a brushing and using a velvet comb shifts any loose hair on clothes and chairs with ease keep on top of it and it not problem. Ragdolls are well worth any fluff you might get around.
I’ve had nothing but problems for 16 years with my dollies. Major matting in the rump area because they won’t allow brushing there. Groomers are out tried that and will not drug them to be shaved.
Was wondering about the fish oil. Any tips on how much and how many time a day to give it to them. Would I mix it into wet food? I’m a first time cat owner and want to make sure my cat is healthy and well groomed :)
I’m grateful for your information also I’m getting a beautiful rag doll kitten in a month he’s still too young and his names going to be eddy so excited!
A rubber kitchen glove can get ragdoll hair off of clothes. The reason ragdoll fur seems like it’s so plentiful is because it’s so lightweight and floofy. So, when you use a lint brush, etc, it just floats into the air. Use a furniture velvet type then the rubber glove or damp washcloth.
We had a Himalayan cat and sadly had to put her to sleep and now are considering a ragdoll do those shed more than a Himalayan? We didn't think our Himalayan was bad at all
I have a ten year old ragdoll and he is high maintainance lol! Brush everyday and always need to cut out knots of fur. He sheds alot but nothing that a roller can’t take care of, but the littles balls of furr on the freshly washed clothes 🤦🏼♀️ he is Our baby anyway 🥰😍
I feed my a raw diet, which consists of a balanced mix of muscle meat, bone and organ meat. I switch up the type of meat they eat regularly. They get different game birds, rabbit, chicken, turkey, beef (not often). Their all time favourite is rabbit. They go crazy for it! You could try a little plain raw meat to see how your little guy does with it, not as a regular diet because there isn't enough nutrition in plain meat, but just to see how he does with it. I'd suggest giving him a little raw turkey if you're able. I'll be posting videos on diet suggestions soon, or you can find food articles on the website too. www.RagdollLove.com
Getting mine on monday. 😍 Blue Point. A question. When people are talking about “adopting”, does that cover buying one as well? When we say “adopt” here, we are talking about from a shelter etc. In my country you can’t “adopt” a Ragdoll. They are pretty expensive. 😂
I was dreaming to adapt a ragdoll cat but i am so much worried about hair . If everywhere hair fur and hair how will i tolerate this !!!!! I only love ragdoll to pet .
My Ragdoll has really bad dander and sheds really bad year round I give him baths and massage castor oil in his skin but still has bad dander what can I do
Sounds like your Ragdoll lacks EFA in the diet. Here's an article on my blog which talks about the coat of the Ragdoll and various issues with their coat. ragdolllove.com/ragdoll-coat.html You'll find a link for an excellent quality fish oil about half way down on the page. It should take care of the dander. This is usually an indication of lacking essential fatty acids. It is not cheap but cat's don't get this fat in their diet and it is much needed. What do you feed your cat?
Hello RagdollLove, I hope you dont mind me asking some ragdoll advice if you can't I understand, I bought a female 2 year old Ragdoll cat from a breeder she had just been desexed two weeks prior to pick up all good, I have now had her nearly a month and she is still severely nervous and frightened when out of her comfort zone she has been so stressed she had blood in her urine I took her to the vet etc she is getting better but my question is after a month and no better with stress or confidence would you say she will ever settle, I am seriously thinking of taking her back but I am attached to her as she is sweet in herself I am wondering if this is normal behaviour at this age, my household is normal just my husband and me, I would love to hear your opinion if you are comfortable with it kindest regards Noeline
Any cat can be skittish. She'll probably settle in. Yes blood in urine can be from stress. It would be devastating for her to go back to the breeder. Is she still skittish?
He looks so much like my 3year old purebred Ragdoll “Ragnar”. He is fed on Royal Canin Veterinary Dental dry food. And Whiskas Chicken in Gravy Assorted wet food, the only wet food he will eat. He has a beautiful coat and only a few matts where he can’t reach. Does not shed much. I have finally found a brush he will tolerate. Similar to yours it has a push button at the back which brings the front forward and the fur can be easily lifted off. I am his 3rd career and I have had him 2 years now. I am in contact with his first career and breeder but unfortunately she developed a severe allergy and broke her heart to part with him.
Yes, it's not my favourite quality of theirs! Consistent brushing (at least a few times per week) and fish oil in their food, = less shedding. I've noted a significant difference from the Ragdolls I have now to my last ones (in the shedding dept) and the difference I believe is the added fish oil to their diet.
He's so huge, awesome beautiful cat. Ive just brought a little 'ragamese' home and he's the most loving cuddly little boy, i couldnt have asked for a better cat. I give my 16 year old dog 'diateamaceous earth'...i take it myself, and will be starting the kitten this week. I paid less than £20 for a 10 kilo sack, so been able to give lsome to friends with pets too. It kills worms and parasites in the gut, kills fleas topically, and as its almost 100% silica, so makes the coat lush, and teeth and nails strong. It has no taste.
God, you sound like the classic liberal snowflake whiny baby who's offended by pretty much anything and everything. Develop a coping mechanism. The cat's perfectly fine.
We have two 1 year old Ragdoll's ( brother and sister). Mr. Roscoe likes to eat toilet paper and can open a nightstand drawer to look for paper...🙄. We had to hide the toilet paper and tissues but every now and then he gets a hold of one grrr. We would not trade them both 😻. How can I untraine the taste of paper???
Good advice...if a bit of cat fluff is going to bend you out of shape, then this isn't the breed for you. That said, Ragdolls are an amazing family pet !
My boy Zanda actually learned to enjoy a soft brush that attaches to my vaccume so we use a brush like the one you had, and during times he is shedding we occasionally clip the brush onto the vaccume. A lot of people say not to do it, but he enjoys it and as I have a Dyson cordless I can turn the suction pressure down. He is nearly 5yo, and this year we have noticed his mane is so long he has trouble cleaning it, so he has a mane brush serveral times a day, its so so long as he licks it it gets stuck in his mouth, part of me feels like I should trim it but I hate the idea of him not being natural, any thoughts? Thanks for the vids new subscriber ☺
I'd attempt to get him accustomed to grooming. Just short periods, combing or brushing very lightly, and give him some favourite treats. Bribery sometimes helps!
Your ragdoll’s are huge at only one year old. Do they eat a lot or is most of that fluff?! I have a 3 month old girl kitten; I guess she will turn out smaller than yours.
No not much floof they have big bodies though. Yes, the females are traditionally smaller than the males. 3 months old they are still pretty small. She'll grow though. Main thing is she is healthy.
Well they aren't overly affectionate. My last male Ragdoll was a real Smoocher and Cuddle Bug, these 2 not so much so as my last boy, MacIntosh, but he was an exceptional cat who craved affection.
I have a cordless Shark Duo for my Ragdolls shedding, it has a mini turbo brush which is good for furniture. My Ragdoll is a nightmare to groom she hates it, it puts her in such a bad much she charges my other cats in temper. Also never hug your Ragdoll if you've just moisturised you face, haha you end up with a beard.
The ragdoll life, vacume ,lint brush, comb their hair, vacume, lint brush ,vacume somemore ...but love regardless...then vacume again.i have 4 ragdoll cats ,i cant catch a break.shoot me ,but i love them👍❤❤
I have 2 leather chairs and yes they are super easy to wipe off, but unfortunately they have some ugly scratches on them where the boys launch themselves off the arms when playing! Ugh.
My 5 year old blue mitted lynx just suddenly started acquiring mass amounts of mats. He gets full on grooming with a groomer regularly (about every 2 months) and I brush him a few times a week, however coronavirus backed up the groomer. I think have them under control now, but unfortunately when you push his coat back in a few places reveals small bald spots. I know it will grow back, but it breaks my heart my love has had a coat issue. Just a tip: a sanitary trim in the private area helps to keep their pantaloons from getting messy in litter. Question: Do you trim the tufts on your Rqgdolls feet?? My Ragdoll is my absolute best friend. He is always with me!🥰
She really dont want to be held. :-D I heard, they should be cuddly, but does not look like that from this video. I hope I am wrong. I will have kitty next year. :-)
My Ragdoll is the cleanest cat ever, if she thinks there is a bit of dirt on the floor, she tries to clean it up.You shouldnt bath a cat, thats just mean. Ragdolls dont protest, they just have to put up with it. Just use baby wipes if they get anything on their knickerbokers. Cats are clean, they clean themselves
My Ragdoll, Clancy, is dear but does not like to be picked up. She likes being near us but not on us. She will perch on one of her her 4 cat trees. (I know, it’s excessive) when she is in the mood, she will jump on the foot of my recliner and allow me to pet her head and rub her ears. She stays just out of reach of being able to pick her up. She will eat a few cat treats and then jump down. Once in a while I can get her to play with a laser or a feather toy. But after 2 or 3 minutes, she is done and seems to enjoy watching me continue to play. We have a ritual in the morning. She jumps on the bed and lets my husband and me pet her a bit and eats treats. If I am too slow with the treats, she taps my hand with her paw. I have a 7 mo old Goldendoodle.puppy who tries to engage her. She lets him sniff her and sometimes lick her ears, but if he pushes too far, she will wack him a few quick times on the nose. He gets the message.
Okay, but tbh any cat with a fluffy bum is going to get a few dingleberries every once and a while. A cat doesn't have to have diarrhea or loose stool for this to happen.
Why didn't you let the cat go when he was clearly protesting to you holding him? Don't think about what yóu want only, but please think about what your cat wants too! He may be a soft spirited breed, but he is still a cat!
Agree. Although the cat was not "harmed", it was clearly annoyed. As the video went on, the cat clearly communicated it wanted to be let go of, and I got frustrated seeing him getting more and more upset. Maybe next time you could sit down and talk to the camera with the cat moving around freely? Much easier to get a good look of it, how it moves and behaves, than when it is held up. I get wanting to show the "ragdoll" effect, but you needn't hold it for 10 minutes to get that point across. A well made and informative video, but the not letting the cat down made it increasingly awkward to watch. Thank you.
I have a plaque in my kitchen that says, "cat fur... not just a condiment, but also a fashion accessory."
Gail Remp haha 😍

How exciting! Keep us posted!
Have you got it yet??
Thank you, Kat; great and loving insight into this wonderful breed. I hope to see more of your videos soon.
My dad promised me a rag doll cat so I’ve been binge watching ragdoll cat vids
A local shelter just got a purebred Ragdoll, and I’ve been dreaming of having one since I was little! This was super informative, I want to make sure mine feels clean and loved haha :)
Did you adopt the Ragdoll?
RagdollLove I did! She’s the fluffiest, sweetest thing!
Lucky you! You got to rescue a cat that was a Ragdoll! My daughter rescued a purebred Sphinx that was turned into a shelter. He's the most adorable sweetest boy... much like a 2 yr old child! Keep us posted on her progress.:)
I subscribed! I have 2 Ragdoll kittens❤️
Loving your tips, thanks.
That's great! Will be publishing more soon!
"keep their sleeping stops cleaned up" oh honey my ragdoll sleeps on my bed. She sometimes there's so much fur that I think I'M going to have a furball. Ivy is 4 years old and she's never had a hairball before.
where did you buy this ragdoll cat i also want to buy
Just adopted a 1.5 Yo rag doll from a lady who had Covid is now in assisted living. She gets along with my small Persian and is less cuddly than expected. I believe she will be more affectionate as she gets a little older. Rest addition to our family.
She’s Beautiful ❤️
I just got a ragdoll from a rescue and he is adorable and cuddly! He sheds a lot but very easy to comb. Do you ever give them a bath? He never goes outside like my pekingnese but was wondering about bathing them for their skin.... pantaloons lolol.
I don't find they need bathing. Mine are now 2 years old and never one bath and they have zero odour.
I just picked up my first Ragdoll last Friday.
Lol your cat wanted down 7:29. But I often em guilty at that too. Sometimes I hold my boy a-little longer then he desires lol
Hi 👋🏽 What food do you feed your cats ???
Picking up my Ragdoll on Halloween! Thanks for the info ^^
I have to stop before I've even really started. I love that your name is Cat. Kat? Idk how you spell it. I just love it.
It is actually Cat!
Lol me to Cat short for Catherine😊
I’ve had nothing but problems for 16 years with my dollies. Major matting in the rump area because they won’t allow brushing there. Groomers are out tried that and will not drug them to be shaved.
Was wondering about the fish oil. Any tips on how much and how many time a day to give it to them. Would I mix it into wet food? I’m a first time cat owner and want to make sure my cat is healthy and well groomed :)
Yes wondering the same TY
I’m grateful for your information also I’m getting a beautiful rag doll kitten in a month he’s still too young and his names going to be eddy so excited!
A rubber kitchen glove can get ragdoll hair off of clothes. The reason ragdoll fur seems like it’s so plentiful is because it’s so lightweight and floofy. So, when you use a lint brush, etc, it just floats into the air. Use a furniture velvet type then the rubber glove or damp washcloth.
How to deal with their tangled coat especially on their chest and tummy.
We had a Himalayan cat and sadly had to put her to sleep and now are considering a ragdoll do those shed more than a Himalayan? We didn't think our Himalayan was bad at all
My 16 yo ragdoll hasn't had a hairball & we don't groom her. We give her a quality diet with furball control food :)
I have used a 2" Fulminator that they love. Combing is essential...I use my Dyson on my furniture.
At..
I want to adopt a ragdoll but not sure whether they are suited for an apartment life. Are they?
Love the video! What do you feed them?
We think our little guy has a very sensitive tummy.
I’m getting my ragdoll kitten next week :)
I was dreaming to adapt a ragdoll cat but i am so much worried about hair . If everywhere hair fur and hair how will i tolerate this !!!!! I only love ragdoll to pet .
Is cat fur itchy on clothes ?
My Ragdoll has really bad dander and sheds really bad year round I give him baths and massage castor oil in his skin but still has bad dander what can I do
Sounds like your Ragdoll lacks EFA in the diet. Here's an article on my blog which talks about the coat of the Ragdoll and various issues with their coat. ragdolllove.com/ragdoll-coat.html
You'll find a link for an excellent quality fish oil about half way down on the page. It should take care of the dander. This is usually an indication of lacking essential fatty acids. It is not cheap but cat's don't get this fat in their diet and it is much needed.
What do you feed your cat?
I have a ragdoll going on ten years. A little bit of olive oil on the food will help with that dry skin. It will also make the coat shiny over time.
Thanks for the tips.
My baby always thinks I'm playing so tries to catch the brush it's sooo difficult x
I bought the cham-Cham and i made sure to brush them every 2-3x week
Now Ragnar has his 'furever' home.:)
That's a nice coat!
I love the Ragdoll but, hate the fact that they shed so much 🙁
Yes, it's not my favourite quality of theirs! Consistent brushing (at least a few times per week) and fish oil in their food, = less shedding. I've noted a significant difference from the Ragdolls I have now to my last ones (in the shedding dept) and the difference I believe is the added fish oil to their diet.
@@RagdollLove.. Nice tip 👍
What about Molecule air cleaner would it help ?
I have 2 in my home and they do help yes.
It has no taste.
thank you so much for the information!
It was painful getting through the video while seeing the cat clearly annoyed.
But I got through it nonetheless and it was helpful, thanks.
Schnukimo Zzz Yes! I kept treats in a drawer and my ragdoll figured out how to open it.
Should you or shouldn’t you give a ragdoll cat a haircut. I would like to know this since my nine month old ragdoll hair is getting long.
I have had mine shaved in the past and they loved it when they were older and became lazy groomers.
What happens if my kitten doesn't like it?
I'd attempt to get him accustomed to grooming. Just short periods, combing or brushing very lightly, and give him some favourite treats. Bribery sometimes helps!
Great video! Thank you!
My rag doll is anti social and will not let me hold longer then a couple min. Your lucky
Well they aren't overly affectionate. My last male Ragdoll was a real Smoocher and Cuddle Bug, these 2 not so much so as my last boy, MacIntosh, but he was an exceptional cat who craved affection.
Why your ragdoll didnt limping
What kind of food you give you’re cat?💖
I have a cordless Shark Duo for my Ragdolls shedding, it has a mini turbo brush which is good for furniture. My Ragdoll is a nightmare to groom she hates it, it puts her in such a bad much she charges my other cats in temper. Also never hug your Ragdoll if you've just moisturised you face, haha you end up with a beard.
😄 Her name is Cat
The ragdoll life, vacume ,lint brush, comb their hair, vacume, lint brush ,vacume somemore ...but love regardless...then vacume again.i have 4 ragdoll cats ,i cant catch a break.shoot me ,but i love them👍❤❤
Yes, same here! It's so worth it.:)
I prefer leather sofas as way easier to clean them with all the cats in my home
I have 2 leather chairs and yes they are super easy to wipe off, but unfortunately they have some ugly scratches on them where the boys launch themselves off the arms when playing! Ugh.
So beautiful..
i am going to have a lilac ragdoll a week later
He is always with me!🥰
Awwww
Thank uuu🌺🌈🌺
She really dont want to be held. :-D I heard, they should be cuddly, but does not look like that from this video. I hope I am wrong. I will have kitty next year. :-)
I'm longing for a cat, perhaps a ragdoll, but my mom hates fur and cats in general, mostly the fur though 💔
I want to buy your ragdoll, contact me
Hehe. They are my babies, couldn't sell them.:)
Of course her name is "Kat/Cat" 🤣😁
Я бы с огромной радостью получил в подарок такого прелестного котика!
❣️
I have a ragdoll and he’s soooo cute, but he never lets you pick him up for more than a minute or pet him. It’s hard to resist
My name is cat
And I'm a dinosour want to own a ragdoll grrrrr
Omg so cute and funny!Check my baby ragdoll kittens 💙💙 i follow you!
That's great! You have Ragdolls?
Very flooofy
Why didn't you let the cat go when he was clearly protesting to you holding him? Don't think about what yóu want only, but please think about what your cat wants too! He may be a soft spirited breed, but he is still a cat!
I was not harming the cat in any way.
Thank you.
@@RagdollLove I did not say you harmed it!
Yes the cat was annoyed, but it’s just o ce for the purpose of the video: it’s not like she irritates him constantly
