A few things, as someone who joined in 2020. The max level is 170 because there are currently 17 main worlds in the game (and 2* side worlds in the game). Each main world expanded the max level by 10 when they came out, but the first 5 main worlds came out together as the original base game. There are also 4 story arcs. Worlds 1-5 are arc 1, worlds 6-10 are arc 2, worlds 11-13 are arc 3, and worlds 14-17 are arc 4. When they come out with the next world, probably November of 2025, maybe 2024 if they're ambitious, it will be the first world of the 5th Story arc.
Dude KI keeps destroying it. The unnecessary updates no one is asking for makes me wanna quit every time I stg. This game is like crack though. It’s the nostalgia that keeps me here but I lose more with every update.
@@violetkalico haha this game really is like crack. I started playing in elementary school, the year after it came out. This might be my oldest, still existent character in any game. I don't play it often anymore, but I check in every couple months and get addicted for a week or so.

Game should have never offered pay per zone monetization. That is entirely an optics issue. However, they knew with the primary demographic being kids back in the day. Coming back to this game as an adult and exploring past the paywall was so worth it. Both a feeling of nostalgia while getting to explore things I had never seen before

Never ever would I expect Waydot to play W101, but there we are. Glad you had fun! :3 After next month, I will have been playing the game for over 10 years. Life wizard for life! ❤
@@Samagachi Yeah. I used Sprite Guardian all through the 1st arc. Once you get to level 28, regenerate is also a very fantastic spell in both PvE and PvP.
I never healed in arc 1 😂. I just used gargantuan rat spin and one shot, basically everything with max damage life glowbug pet. Had high damage, too.@VisiblyHappy_
@shatteredsentient5321 Life was my first wizard, so I didn't have anything to spoil my wiz with. I'm starting a fire wizard, though; I'll be sure to give her a nice pet this time around. 👌
Just found this video as a pretty hardcore wizard 101 player (7 Max Level wizards, done raids, pvp etc.) so awesome to see people enjoying the game and exploring the content, glad you've enjoyed it! The issues are absolutely fair, the free to play is a running joke in the community, and with the grinding ive done over the years the animations are SO LONG, starting to be addressed in more intense combat modes like raids, with quicker animation times and more dynamic fights. It definitely has lots of flaws, but if you enjoyed it i recommend playing until about level 50 and the end of Dragonspyre, the end of the 1st main arc in the game, great story, more dynamic locations and the power leveling is a lot of fun!
2:15 customization has changed a lot since release. I've recently gotten back into it and I have my old character. The model is older and more jagged in the face.
This is so freaking crazy, as I take a big freaking break from this game everyone and their mother decided to pick it up and try, even if I try to walk away THEY PULL ME BACK IN!!
Great video! A couple of key points to answer that might help with the confusion. 1. The crownshop does not give any spell decks or cards. You gain new spells learned from the schools professor and spell quests they give. Decks themselves only serve to hold more cards and at later levels give stats. 2. The hungry meter you mentioned is actually called the happiness meter. This is a not very good system KI implemented into the game to have you play as your pet or use will cast spells. These actions do drain the happiness but pet snacks of any kind fill it back up. 3. The stats. Stats in this game follow a simple layout. There's health, damage, accuracy, resistance, critical rating, critical blocking, armor piercing, outgoing and incoming healing, power pip percentage, shadow pip rating, and then the newly added stat archmastery. There's a page in the spell book that does go over each Stat and the icon for it. 4. The storyline. Each set of worlds follows one arc in each set. Right now you're in arc 1, which is Wizard City, Krokotopia, Marleybone, Mooshu, and ending after Dragonspyre. This arc is mainly about trying to stop Malistsire's troubles he causes in those worlds, he's basically gone mad due to his wife dying and is doing anything even summoning a literal god to bring her back. The second arc is Celestia, Zafaria, Avalon, Azteca, and then Khrysalis, which is split into two parts. The third arc is Polaris, Mirage, and Empyrea. Empyrea also has two parts as well. Lastly, the fourth arc is Karamelle, Lemuria, Novus, and just recently released Wallaru. Feel free to ask any questions. I am free to answer any to the best of my ability.
Really awesome video, always love seeing the modern perspectives of W101 newcomers who enjoy the game! Side note, if you save up enough gold you can actually choose to buy certain permanent mounts from the crown shop but for gold!
Great video. It almost makes me almost want to start playing again. Almost. Important note, you don't have to wait for people to enter a dungeon. There's a teamup button at the bottom of the screen that allows you to instantly teamup with people from other realms/"servers".
I just found your Chanel bc of this video, I’ve been a long time fan of this game. I took a break when I got into highschool and just came back to play it last year. I’m glad you’re exposing it to a new audience and I’m excited to see you play more of it and start to learn the advanced mechanics. This game is a lot more deep than it looks on the surface
As someone who has been playing this game for 15 years, it's so interesting to see new players experience the game. Especially since it's changed SO MUCH since it came out.
I have been playing this game on and off since 2010. No matter how many times I stop playing I will always eventually return and it's one of my all time favorite games
2:55 Speaking of inappropriate names, you're able to choose a blank in any of the name spaces so if you just want a first name like "Steve" or just a one-word last name like "Water" instead of "Watershield". A one-word last name combined with a first name is what I did for my pyromancer and named him "Flint Water"
11:00 The max level is because of the worlds currently. Each time they add a new world, they buff up the max by 10 levels. Were in a weird spot in the story arcs currently so the max looks weird. Hope that helps!
This is so cool to see. Big wizard101 fan played it on and off since 2010 this game is near and dear to my heart and to see someone else playing it makes me happy. A weird thing about wishing for an animation speed up is that in wizard101's sister game Pirate101 there is such a feature. I never understood why they never brought that feature to wizard101. also you should try pirate101 at some point its very good too.
i watched this video and decided to open up my old account (somehow still had my info lying around) and it's wild the nostalgia. I started playing in 2008 when it was new and playing it now like 15 years later playing again it's amazing how much i remember from back then but also so cool to see what's changed. i'm glad it still has a loyal following all these years later (despite the frustrating pay to play aspect that killed me as a kid with no money)
You should definitely try Pirate101 as well from the same team. It's less developed but it still holds nice memories. It has similar combat to what you mentioned about old school final fantasy. Turn based tactical gameplay.
I started playing this game in 2010 when I was 13 and I've never really left it. I'm invested in the lore and my own wizard, and I've loved watching how much the community has grown!
I remember playing this game for a long time, one of the things I like is that you can collect and upgrade pets/gear/spells by passing those items from my high level character to my lower level character, which is what I did with my ice wizard, its not bad for replay value.
The game used to be pretty different in a bunch of ways. I really enjoyed your video in the end and I honestly wouldn’t mind helping you out if you wanted. I play all the time and I’d love to help you out if you come back. I’ve been playing since 2010 roughly. Solid video.
Really awesome to see people getting into wiz in 2024. I have been playing off and on since I was 10. I’m 22 now and I always come back to beat the new worlds when they are released. A lot of people don’t realize that below the surface of the first couple worlds and the kids game stereotype the game gets really intricate. I wish it was accessible for more players bc it can be expensive and the game has a lot of potential.
Man this brought back memories. I remember me and friends reaching the free2play limit multiple times and creating new characters afterwards just so we can play more, because back then our parents would murder us if we spent money on games
when i see new players i send them tons of love to keep them in the game, just today i dropped some pigsie tc and hatched a pet, AND gifted a pack to a new Wiz all for the sake of keeping the community alive. The game is coming back to life again more and more each day
I have played this game since its release and I have so much history of growing up with it. I am very glad that you have found it enjoyable. Its dying off for me in terms of content as a veteran player but as a new player there is so much to explore and do.
Been playing since 2010 I am 25 now and still play this. Membership is soo worth it and eventually sure I get tired of playing sometimes but atleast I enjoy myself rather than being addicted and over playing. Love the simplicity and creativeness. I have great childhood memories of this game !
hey dot! loving the new content man. I was a viewer when you had your GIM and loved the osrs videos and rs3 ones. I actually got 120 herb watching your gim vids lol. I love that you're able to express and play any game you want! looking forward to all the upcoming content
Glad you enjoyed yourself. I rejoined this game only two years ago and while I have taken a break during that time I am back eith it again and really enjoying myself as well
I played this game back in the early 2010s with my mom and sister. Was a very fun time and back then, most of the games content was acutally free and you could progress up to lvl. 50 without having to spend a dime. A few years later they introduced the paywalls for a lot of regions and therefore quest, so we all stopped playing the game at that point.
I played this game a ton when I was young and a little more when I was in college even. It has mechanics that are fantastic and satisfying but its fairly obvious that this was a bit of an accident on their part because nothing else in the game meets the same standard of the combat system. Its also the first game to introduce predatory monetization practices to me. It absolutely preys on children with mom's credit card and only gives comically low value low poly rewards in return. The writing and voice acting made me cringe even as a 14 y/o. And it gets insanely difficult and grindy later on. The game holds a nostalgic part in my heart but ultimately a bitter taste since it commits so many unforgivable sins.
Don’t know if anyone commented this yet but Selena Gomez and one of the Jonas brothers actually did a collab with this game as well. You could get house items as rewards for the quest that are now worth a lot in the 101 community. You can still talk to the Jonas brother in a place called Grizzleheim
Something that jumped out to me was when you said the areas are small. In arc 1 that’s 100% the case. It truly seemed like they were constantly reusing assets and it all feels very samey. Arc 2 the areas definitely get bigger and then by arc 3 there are entire deserts and plains that you can explore. The variety of areas is truly something the team at KI should be proud of
This game is my entire childhood. For context on how much I love this game (and how dorky I am), when it first came out, each wizard had a different type of wand that fit their school. Idk why they changed it, as it made the school types feel more unique and special. Anyways, I made a paper version of my school wand (fire) when I played. Also love this, always love seeing new people appreciate this game. Side note, its not hard to keep your pet full. It just depends on how much you use it, as each time you use it, it affects its "happiness." As you get further along, your pets give you cards instead of attack themselves. Also I wanna mentioned that the first two worlds are small, but like I said, the further along you get, the better it is. As the other worlds (Marleybone, Mooshu, Dragonspyre, etc) feel bigger as you go. As far as the fanbase and community, I agree. Everyone on the game (for the most part) are really really nice. Mostly everyone if not everyone is willing to help, you can actually make some really nice friendships. It's a very chill and wholesome community and everyone who plays is just trying to vibe.
I've played this game since its release and I've been a hardcore fan to this game, no matter how many times I take breaks, I always end up back at the game playing it again. Honestly this game holds a special place in my heart, coming home from school, excited to hop on my wizard card game was something I miss dearly, as of now, I dont play it too much, but I still maybe hop on when Im high or when I just want to mess around for a little bit. First, when this game was at its prime back when the level cap was 100, was such a gift to be able to play this game. The game was FILLED with players, had very fun challenges, endless players who needed help (I loved helping players get endgame gear) PVP was chaotic, and the spells added at level 100 were revolutionary, the animations plus what the spells did was something never seen before, where you had 5 pip costed spells with shadow pips like glowbugs doing 1720 BASE FUCKING DAMAGE FOR 5 PIPS AND IF THAT WASNT ENOUGH REMOVE ALL POSITIVE CHARMS LIKE HOLY FUCK ----- the spells were insane, storms being able to one shot you round 1 in pvp was fun, but anyway that was THE TIME to play this game for sure, while this game has its many problems with gambling and microtransactions, I dont regret the money I've poured into it (kinda) and it was worth the experience. The game is definitely in a slower state now and it has been for the past few years, but its still a neat little game that combines 2 of my favorite genres, Card games and MMO's. With many less players that it had, and still having a membersip which does grant you good bonuses like bigger backpack space, friends list, member benefits etc, I wouldnt suggest its worth or not worth playing, If you love card games, and love MMO's, this game is a fantastic mix of it, and I've never really seen another game be a card/mmo game. Theres still a decent amount of players who play, you can sometimes find new players but its far less common that what it was. If you're looking to see if you wanna get into this game, its fun. its a lot more fun with friends. If you got some buddies or even meet people on the game, questing with people is far more fun than soloing, while soloing isnt bad, for a new player it might be a little tougher depending on a bunch of stuff like school chosen and knowledge of enemies. So really if you wanna try it, wait until they do a free week or whatever and play it, during that time you'll find like double the amount of players because its free, and you'll be able to relax, listen to music whatever, and just play a card game with your buddies. Its a fun experience no matter how old or young you are.
This was a very well done and thorough review of the early game! I've been playing the game on and off since I was a kid and hearing these kinds of new perspectives are really great. Like many MMOs, the player-base has their gripes with the developers and their decisions but I think reviews like these elucidate them from a non-drama/fresh perspective. If the game did captivate your interest enough, I feel like a full review of the game (or even of the first story arc [up to world #5]) would be nice to see. The gameplay picks up a lot more (with some more combat mechanics) and the dungeons/combat can genuinely be a decent challenge even for seasoned strategy gamers (crazy for a kids game at some points lol). I appreciate the journalistic integrity and honesty of your review so if you do make anything else similar I will definitely be waiting for it!
i remember seeing commercials for this game and always wondered what it was like. it actually seems pretty good but now that im old i dont think i'd really like it as much as i would have if i was a kid. good video cool to see a game i missed out on
I know this is a month or so late but I wanted to comment that they actually just made membership free for everyone for about a week or so, and there have been talks for a long time about opening up all the questing to being non-membership. Anyways, it's always really cool seeing someone new talk about the game as someone who has played on and off since release. I hope this has convinced more people to try and stay. Even though it's an old game now, it's still really charming. I do think with just a few of the right QoL changes, it could really be a great new beginning for the game.
hey waydot, just a little tip. most people do not use the pet will cast spells cause its expensive to keep pets fed with snacks (also most of the starter pets talents suck). most people just train up other pets u can hatch at the kiosk, i wouldn't bother wasting your snacks on it
I also totally agree with your take on speed up animations of spells. After you blade and (for example) meteor strike, it gets dry seeing it for the 1000th time
Just a note: You can buy some Permanent Mounts for Gold but the catch is they cost a hefty amount. (I think perm broom stick may be the least expensive of the FTP Ones.)
Wow, I remember being 10 and playing the hell out of this. Could never get far because of the paywall. I’m 23 now and looking back at old games like this, Meez, Habbo Hotel, Free Realmz, Sherwood, etc are so nostalgic. Good times. Now it’s all work and bills. Enjoy your childhood kids, I miss it every day.
also a side note, you can buy two perm 40% lion mounts in the crown shop, they have a gold option. its there way to give ftp players super easy perm mounts :D
The only reason I ever started playing this game is that the family kiddos found it and started playing it. I was one of the adults that they called to be on the game with them while they played when they were under the age of 15. I kept playing on and off even after they went on to other games. It was fun.
Would love to see more content and your opinion towards the game as you progress! This is the only game that has stuck with me since I started in 2012. I admit I don't play regularly anymore, but I still love watching content on the state of the game and others' opinions!
I remember absolutely loving this game when I was younger. I had just came off playing toontown so this game felt like a older kids version of that game. I remember beating all the content the game had in it at the time then stopping, but I'm pretty sure there's way more that's been added since.
You should give Dofus a try. It is a turn-based originally french MMORPG. It has a main quest line, a huge world with different areas to explore and a bunch of side quests. I've been playing since I was a child and I've been coming back ever since. It is without a doubt, my favourite MMORPG of all time. :)
Very cool to see a brand new players experience! I have been playing since 2011 and have still not come close to doing everything in this game. They are constantly adding more and more to do and adding more into current activities. Recently they have been adding Raids into the game for players looking for higher skill gameplay which is pretty cool to see. They continuously are catering to lots of different player bases which is a good way to do it imo. The community has been asking about moving back the Paywall for yearrrrs, but it is also something they have openly discussed as something they are constantly looking at and if it makes sense to, they will.
idk if you plan on continuing playing wizard101, i've played this game for years since it came out when i was younger, one of the best things to know i'd say is that you can buy certain items in the crowns shop with gold, (like certain permanent mounts)
Great upload as always. I don't think i ever made it past the Old West area though. I may have to track down that account again at some point. Always enjoyed it.
I’ve been addicted to W101 since 2011. My older brother introduced me to it and I’ve been playing ever since. I admit the micro transactions are really bad, but it’s one of those games that last FOREVER offering lots of great entertainment granted you pay for it. When I was a teen, my brother and I would quest together and it was the best memories I’ve ever had as a kid. Now I have money and can go crazy in the game making it equally as entertaining as when I were a young lad.
It’s glad seeing people coming back to this game I personally wasn’t able to play when I was younger because of the money but now I’m older and finally was able to come into it I’ve been playing for 3 months now and I’d say currently is the best time to come back it’s amazing and the summer update is coming soon if you need help with anything just reply back to me here and I can try my best to help you
Awesome video, very well done, as previously mentioned, getting to see someone experience the game I've been playing since beta came out and genuinely enjoy it is amazing to see. Would you ever do a full playthrough of the game? The wiz community always loves a good playthrough especially when coming from a new player. Regardless, great video again and look forward to seeing more.

I really wanted to get into wizard 101 as a little kid but i could not since i had a bad pc. After watching your review and gameplay i honestly think i missed a bit of fun and some friends, but my time was better spent in gielinor. Great vid dots - need more uploads please!
I've been a veteran ever since I played the game back in March 2010 and I had came back to it in 2020 or 2021 and it was such a blast to finally play more. Even during online classes when I was multitasking in Mooshu. So it's always fun to see when a new player get into the game since it makes me nostalgic for my first time. I wonder what you'd think of Wizard101's sister game Pirate101. Also ngl, I would totally play along with you since I have been working on other wizards to spice up the game for myself as I only really played my fire wizard for the past 4 years.
the game is now close to ending arc 4, i really wish they increase the paywall to the end of arc 1 at most but at least add 2 of worlds of free play, a few areas at the start of the game is not enough to sell new players about buying membership and that’s why the game isn’t bringing in as much newcomers.
I've been wanting to go back and play W101 again for almost a decade now, but I won't until they make majority of the game f2p. The nostalgia isn't enough to pay again.
genuinely if they made at LEAST the first arc free, it would do wonders for the health of their game. almost everybody including people who pay the sub has been pushing this for so long, its a shame they havent expanded the f2p permanently for how long it's been around
Been playing since I was 10 (2010) I hate this game with everything in me but I probably have 10K hours on it and always come back to it. I appreciate someone like you giving it a fair shot and going over the game in good detail!

@@VisiblyHappy_ mine was myth, but enemies kept attacking me instead of my minions so i switched to life
Just found this video as a pretty hardcore wizard 101 player (7 Max Level wizards, done raids, pvp etc.) so awesome to see people enjoying the game and exploring the content, glad you've enjoyed it!
I was afk in the commons when you were fishing lol.
I enjoy seeing new people giving wiz a shot.
Me too I've been stuck in arc 2
Ive played this game for over a decade now and its nice seeing new people get into the game and discovering why I love it too!
Man I just found your videos and you are the best mmo content creator. Keep up the great work my guy.
Thanks for the kind words man :)
what a surprise to see you playing this! so excited to watch!! peak nostalgia for me
Come back and play.
I am free to answer any to the best of my ability.
you can get cards from the crowns shop, some packs can give you spellements for lore spells that can be used to get the card
@@Rukusoru that is true, but almost every spellemental spell can be farmed from gold key bosses.
i hope you continue to make more w101 content in the future! maybe like a walkthrough or something? it would be refreshing to see a new player do one
Me and my friend played this together at the start of the year! it was so fun to play through with a friend. School of life gang! Moolinda woo icon.
if your friend wasnt death your doing it wrong
so fun to see more people playing!! pls keep playing so u can enjoy all the wonders ❤
I definitely want to check out Pirate101 at some point as well!
Wow, an animation speed up button would be a game changer, especially for boeing old Khrisalis
I feel like if this game was free at the time of its peak, so many more people would have had to pleasure to call this their childhood game.
i watched this video and decided to open up my old account (somehow still had my info lying around) and it's wild the nostalgia.
I remember playing this game for a long time, one of the things I like is that you can collect and upgrade pets/gear/spells by passing those items from my high level character to my lower level character, which is what I did with my ice wizard, its not bad for replay value.
i felt so bad for you waiting that long for a partner for a dungeon 😭 that team up button is a life savior
Thanks so much man ! I always appreciate comments like these :)
The way you asked me to like got a big ol' smile on my face. So you more than earned that thumb brother.
I appreciate the journalistic integrity and honesty of your review so if you do make anything else similar I will definitely be waiting for it!
i remember seeing commercials for this game and always wondered what it was like. it actually seems pretty good but now that im old i dont think i'd really like it as much as i would have if i was a kid. good video cool to see a game i missed out on
Played it as a kid the early paywall killed it for me tbh
You smiling at sharing a mount was really sweet
Yeah, that guy was such a legend. It's moments like this in MMOs that make this genre the best :)
i have been playing wizard101 since 09 and i still play it to this day and i pay a yearly membership and i have been very happy with it
Wow, I remember being 10 and playing the hell out of this.
Wow, I've been playing this game for a decade, can't believe there's still new players!
Thanks for all those videos on lesser know and/or older MMOs!
I got hit with that pay wall when I was a kid. I JUST got back into it a few days ago and I’m having a blast
I remember absolutely loving this game when I was younger. I had just came off playing toontown so this game felt like a older kids version of that game. I remember beating all the content the game had in it at the time then stopping, but I'm pretty sure there's way more that's been added since.
I came back to play this game late summer this year and have noticed that they raised the price for membership the last time I checked.
The community has been asking about moving back the Paywall for yearrrrs, but it is also something they have openly discussed as something they are constantly looking at and if it makes sense to, they will.
wow!! I used to play Wizard101 and Pirate101 back in 2012. I completely forgot my login info so I think I have to start fresh 😭😭😭
idk if you plan on continuing playing wizard101, i've played this game for years since it came out when i was younger, one of the best things to know i'd say is that you can buy certain items in the crowns shop with gold, (like certain permanent mounts)
this was such a cool video to see as a veteran player, glad you're having fun and i hope you keep playing :)
That Peak Wizard101 time was great, back when the levels were capped at 50!
Great video and very informative, actually took some time to see how the game was in general. 10/10
Great upload as always. I don't think i ever made it past the Old West area though. I may have to track down that account again at some point. Always enjoyed it.
Demetrius diamonddeflector is unironically one the best names I’ve ever seen on this game lmao
Im so glad that wiz is getting a bit of love. Seeing this stuff is always awesome
Even for an old man like me, this game can be very addictive. Behind the kid friendly façade is a very interesting and fun strategy game.
Welcome to the Wizard101 community I haven't seen a new player in so long bc I've been stuck in Khrysalis since 2022
I can help you if you want, I’m totally down if you ever wanna come back. I let my character sit in Empyrea for like 2 years.

It’s glad seeing people coming back to this game I personally wasn’t able to play when I was younger because of the money but now I’m older and finally was able to come into it I’ve been playing for 3 months now and I’d say currently is the best time to come back it’s amazing and the summer update is coming soon if you need help with anything just reply back to me here and I can try my best to help you
Do you have a community to play with? Would like to connect with others on discord or something!
You've stared into the abyss, now walk away, don't be like us... the abyss has us now...
bro got told he needs the best school
😂
woah im here early! i just started thinking i want to play wizard 101 again and was curious about how it holds up nowdays and this came out at the perfect time
i love seeing new players figure out this game, i hope to see more of this soon :)
Awesome video man, hope you keep going.
Lowkey wanna see you continue playing this
I really wanted to get into wizard 101 as a little kid but i could not since i had a bad pc. After watching your review and gameplay i honestly think i missed a bit of fun and some friends, but my time was better spent in gielinor. Great vid dots - need more uploads please!
You and me both, definitely spent much more time in Gielinor.
Come to Wizard101 highly recommended
@@midnightstar1426 maybe one day… :)
it gets so much better in arc 2 because the bosses start to cheat the duel and it completely changes your card strategy.
Honestly I never thought about it but I can see how this game was marketed for kids, I was hooked
The face tatts were a later addition to character customization. They weren't there in 2008.
I've been wanting to go back and play W101 again for almost a decade now, but I won't until they make majority of the game f2p. The nostalgia isn't enough to pay again.
genuinely if they made at LEAST the first arc free, it would do wonders for the health of their game. almost everybody including people who pay the sub has been pushing this for so long, its a shame they havent expanded the f2p permanently for how long it's been around
its 8$
That guy Gabriel you teamed with in the vault of ice had one of the rarest wands in the game 😮😮
Really?! Interesting
“A bittle bit better” god tier level alliteration 😭😭
Been playing since I was 10 (2010) I hate this game with everything in me but I probably have 10K hours on it and always come back to it. I appreciate someone like you giving it a fair shot and going over the game in good detail!
I enjoyed this game when i played solo. Then with my kids. Gonna go back and try it again
