  • Mizuno JPX921 Tour Review. The transitional iron in the JPX921 range that bridges the gap between the Forged and the Mizuno's much more compact MP range. True lofts and little in the way of bells and whistles tech wise, we see how these straight forward Grain Flow Forged irons perform and feel.

I love the jpx tour irons.... I got a set of brand new jpx 900 tour irons a year ago. I fucking love them. They are almost pure blade, besides the EXTREAMLY small cavity in the bottom of the club head. I love them so much!!!! They feel like a stick of butter hitting a ball! I love the jpx tour series!

Of all these numbers - the descent angles make us happy. One thing to make a golf ball fly long with a 7 iron.....it's a bit harder making it stop.

So funny when I watched this again today. I bought these (P-7Iron). I love them. I blended them with the JPX 921 forged (6-4 iron).
I’m sure that these clubs made me a better ball striker. I love the control, spin. I’ve lost a little bit of distance from my old JPX 850s but not much.
I’m now wondering where to go next. I really want my next set of irons to be all the same club as I’m not happy with the blend.
I’m now in my 60s so the dilemma is will I need help over the next 5 years if my club head speed begins to tail off.
Will have to try the new Mizuno pro range when they come out in Dec/Jan (241,243& 245s) and see how the go compared to the 923JPX tours and the new JPX Forged.
This will be my Christmas present 🎁 from me to me.

I will get the JPX 921 Tour (5-PW) as replacement for my 919 Tour. Had two irons in my current set where the outer layer cracked on the backside near the toe. Delivery date is set to 25 feb. I will get them with 2* weaker loft. The 7 iron will be 36*.

Just been fitted into the Tour. Went to fitting with the idea of getting Forged from PW to 7 iron and HM Pro in the 6 and 5.
However, spin profile in the Forged and HM was low. (For me anyway) I got better numbers with the Tour and the distance I expect / want. Current set is MP18SC so these were not scary to look at or hit. ( I get that people think blades or ‘players clubs’ are hard to hit but I think more should give them a try especially as the bonus side is Loft.... loft is your friend !)

would love to see your thoughts on 921 tour vs 223. Currently use 919 tour(6-pw & pxg 0211st gap) and thinking of going either 921tour/hmpro or 225/223. I'd like to an idea before walking into a fitting.

Just had an iron fitting and hit the new Taylor made, mizuno, Titleist, and pxg irons. Once we got the shaft dialed in to dg x100 it came down to the head. I was stuck between the jpx921 tour and the Titleist t100s. After a few rounds of switching back and forth the mizuno was a clear winner because of feel and actually did slightly better on off center strikes. Went into the fitting expecting to be fitted into the forged model but I clearly gravitated toward the better players club and hit them much more solid. My recommendation is to always get fit. Good luck.

@tony same story here man, I was inches away from committing to the 921 forged this week, tried the Tour for fun and ended up hitting it well. For a guy who does not deloft clubs well, the fitter and I determined that the Tour model did not need a loft adjustment as I was making great contact with them compared to the Forged, very excited to have them in my bag once they come in soon. My final distance numbers for the #6 iron on the Tour were only 2-3 yards shorter than the Forged, but the Tour will last much longer and I can learn to play into them.

    • @tonyoddone5577

Adam Aylsworth Amazing what the fitting process can bring to light. My whole setup has now changed. Different shaft, 2 degrees flat, 1/2 inch long, and hitting lasers with the JPX tour. They can’t get here fast enough. Glad you had a similar experience. Play well.

Fantastic review as always. The tour being a fully forged iron ( currently in the bag, JPX919 Forged(5-GW) and a MP20HMB 4 iron bent to 21 deg), what would be the impact on playability of ordering the Tour irons strengthened in loft by 2 to 3 degrees?
    Keep well

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Mizuno will generally only strengthen loft by 2 degrees, if you need more then an aftermarket Pro may bend them fractionally more for you.
I have a video coming soon to showcase the JPX921 ranges potential for blending 👍

Great review Jay.. Love the summary data in chart form comparing all the 4 clubs together on one screen.. Brilliant. The Forged model will be my go too up against the Ping i210 or if i wait until next spring for my custom fit then possibly the i210 replacement. Since i tend to be a more of digger instead of a sweeper with my mid to short irons i think the sole design of the Ping i210 would be better for me.. what do you think about that? I’ll see how my custom fit goes and decide from there with the help of the fitter of course.

AskGolfNut 😳 thanks for the heads up ! I haven’t played a round since Sept 2019 due to Rotator cuff surgery in December 2019 and then being infected with COVID-19 in April 2020. Still going for physical therapy for my shoulder and my strength nor my swing is ready. Looks like I’ll be going for my custom fit in the spring of 2021. So my two main choices for irons will be Ping i210 and Mizuno JPX 921 Forged. Definitely going graphite shafts for irons to help the shock. Any good recommendations as a Starting point? My driver swing speed is approximately 100 mph at least before I injured my shoulder. Also Definitely going ping glide 3.0 wedges in the 54 & 58 degrees.

    Jay, love the honest review.
    Two questions:
    1. Could you blend these with other clubs in the Mizuno family in a way that would work with the gapping?
    2. Serious question. What would you do for a 3 iron or even a 2 iron? I love my long irons.
    I have the JPX Forged irons. My 7 iron carries ~ 160 , total ~ 165.
I can shape my irons both ways.
Current handicap 6.5 (down from 12 since I switched to Mizuno irons).
My home course is long, windy and championship standard. I want to improve.
I’m clueless in terms of where to go with my next purchase and this range isn’t making it any easier to choose.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I've got a video coming soon about showcasing the blending ability of the whole JPX921 range, and for a 2 iron I'd definitely go for the MP20 HMB if you were thinking about keeping with Mizuno. Otherwise the Ping Crossover always gets overlooked but proves to perform exceptionally well in that category.

    • @AskGolfNut

Hi Michael, unfortunately there aren't any clubs specifically made or designed to assist with heel strikes due to the inefficient cor that it produces, however going to something with a larger spaces tungsten weighting may help.
Primarily though for that miss I would always suggest having a lesson or two to migrate to a more central strike.

I would have liked to see Mizuno, with the JPX line, embrace slightly stronger lofts with the Tour - like the Titleist TS100s - thus you'd have the traditional lofts with the MPs and modern lofts (7 iron at 32/33) in the JPX line - I'd predict more players being interested if this was the case - I know I would - but I still want the PW at 46 for gapping purposes. And for blending, I think the Forged should be backed off to the 919 spec of a 32 degree 7 iron
