Great tutorial, I have a 04 Eclipse GTS and I looked for months for a manual but could never find one I eventually had to settle for an auto for which I’ve never been a fan of but it had the his her shifter so I can still choose gears. I want to change out the shift knob and now I know how to great video man.

Good video, short and to the point. However I would have attached that adapter further down and slid the boot over it, hiding the set screw and lowering the knob a bit 🤙

Do they even make a wide body kit for a 2019 I know they do for the 2015 and older. Never seen one on a newer optima. I'd personally love to put a wide boy kit on mine!

Yeah that should be it.
whole different process for getting your shift knob off. won’t be fun and odds are you will not only destroy your stock shift knob, but you will also destroy your boot trim. not to mention most automatic/manual shift knobs for volkswagens are different. good luck

Yes, those pieces are included with the adapter.
how do you check what size your car uses, because i know there are different sizes, how do i check on my car which size it is
The size is only relative to the shift adapter and the knob that goes on it. Car doesn’t matter. Just if you get a adapter one size make sure the knob is that same size.
Sooo the little collar piece on the end of the boot…I have a 2019 civic so that piece is like square. Do you recommend a size to swap that piece out with to make it sit flush with the adapter?
so for my car you have to release the button before you can you can actually shift into park, is there any whey around it?

You may need another type of adapter then. Unfortunately I’m not too familiar with those ones.
it will still work. mine pulls upwards but once you take it off it will shift freely
Thank you for video. I've been thinking about replacing my shift lever and the button issue was really throwing me. My car has a trigger type and I was emailing a seller and they said theirs was a push down and I assumed it wouldn't work. Now I can get the knob I want.
Just ordered one yesterday. Is there a way to cover the adaptor with my shift boot? Or at least a way to make it look a little flush & not just sitting loose?
Update: It works great except one small problem, even when I put my car in park and it registers it’s in park, I still can take my keys out the ignition without taking off the adapter and then putting it back on. I can put the key in and start the car and drive no problem but once I put the car back in park I can’t take the keys out.

Nope, it stays locked in until you press the shifter down completely.

The threads only matter between the adapter and the knob. Doesn’t matter what adapter you get just make sure you get the same size for the knob.
I have a 2016 cruze and i pulled the leather up but when i put it in N and pull up it won’t come off. is there something else or a different gear it has to be in?
Check the front side of the gear shift there might be a screw already in yours holding it in. If no screws it might just be really stuck on there. Mine was very hard to pull off the first time I basically smacked myself in the face pulling haha.

As long as you get an adapter that has the thread sizes they have for their shifters. Pretty much any manual shifter knob can be used in an automatic now.

I ordered both at the same time from SickSpeed but they weren’t together like a “kit” or anything. I just found a knob I liked that had the same size threads as their adapter.
When I go to buy the knob it gives me the auto adapter option when I go to the sizes and I don’t know if that comes the adapter too because the price goes up
What about corrugated/bumpy roads will gravity push the shifter and change gears ?
Nope, never experienced that issue. You have to use more force to push down than what the knob weighs and I even had one of the heaviest knobs they sell on the adapter.

So for something like the dart because my knob with button snapped off when I press the break is when that plastic piece drops allowing me to shift through prnd. Would this example work for that or is specific?

I have a Ford Fiesta 2019 SE and it doesn’t have a boot. Do you still think I can install a aftermarket shift? It has the PRNS next to the shift. Since it is only 3 years old, I feel like removing it will be tricky because of all the tech
Not too sure on that one, check some Fiesta specific forums/threads on Facebook or Google if you can. I’m not too familiar with the shifter on that car.
I’m trying to install it. But I can seem to have it go up and down where did you strew and how deep ?
You want to put the adapter all the way down so it’s touching that little plastic button but not so far down that it’s pressing the button down.

If your shifter doesn’t have a button to release the lock then you probably don’t need the adapter. You can most likely just unscrew your current shift knob and then screw a new one on. I would check a forum specific to your car though to make sure.

It’s very hard to get off, you have to pull pretty hard.

The best way to look is pry up your current boot/shift knob cover and see if it’s the same type of mechanism that you push down to release the shift lock. Most likely it is.

Not trying to look like a manual, just got bad arthritis and the button on the side of the shifter fucks with my wrist. For the most part it looks like it would be easier on my hand when my hand doesn't want to hand

The adapter isn't specific to the car its only specific to the knob you get. Either of the adapters will work just make sure you get the same size knob threads as adapter threads and you'll be good.

I used the 12x1.25 option for both the adapter and knob threads. You can use that one or the other option but you have to make sure you get a knob that matches that other options size threads.

I went with the 12x1.25 that’s the most common thread size but that really only applies to the threads on the top of the adapter so you want to make sure you get a shifter with that size threads too.
