Nice job man! Id recommend putting the coats on alot lighter. I dyed mine cinnamon and used a sponge brush. 7 coats later with a heat gun and I had Amazing results. Looks factory
Thanks! I'm definitely realizing that as I've been going along. I'm working on dyeing the rest of the seats/leather now and I'm actually waiting for more dye to arrive to finish for reasons you'll see in the next video :-( and I haven't totally over done it but definitely getting some runs here and there. The dye is so thin compared to spraying paint. Thanks for watching!
Hi man I bought some gray front leather seats for my e46 with red interior from the factory since my original seats have split open(passenger side) and I couldn't find original red seats I decided to dye the gray ones red, I dont have a spray gun but I found spray cans of the same bmw color made for leather with the top coat included do you think it's going to work? thank you for the video very useful
Hey! Sorry I just saw your comment! At some point I plan on doing an update video, life's just been busy. In retrospect, I think I would have used the foam pad that was included in my kit to apply the dye. I was worried it was going to leave streaks which is why I decided to spray but after even coats it evens out and the streaks disappear. The spray can you found _might_ work, I can't say for sure, but I wouldn't expect it to match your other interior red leather very well. Your best bet would be to cut a small sample out of your old front seats and send it to a dye company (I've used LeatherWorldTech.com) for them to custom match it. With that said, I highly recommend getting the adhesion promotor, the custom dye, and a top coat. I didn't use the adhesion promotor on the door armrest and it's pealing there. Either because I didn't clean it well enough or because I didn't use the adhesion promotor (or maybe the material is slightly different and the dye doesn't adhere well to it). I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions :)
@@TheNewMechanic thank you for the reply I ordered the spray cans (bmw taninrot color) I'll try on the headrest first and if it matches I will go for it I hope it will work Subbed!
I've heard that the red dye is "weaker" and you might have trouble getting a good color change on black leather with it. I'd reach out to the guys at Leather World Tech and see what they think.
Hey r wan, I just saw this comment. You're absolutely right. I had cheap shotgun microphone that I was using for this video and previous videos. I've since gotten a better shotgun microphone and I've also learned how to normalize the audio a little bit better. I might still get a lapel microphone as there are times where I've noticed there's still a lot of background noise. Thanks for letting me know how I can improve my videos!
Posted a follow up video on the dyed seats after 8 months of use:

You need a body microphone for your videos. Cannot hear your voice on some parts.
