  • Hey, we're back!
Welcome back to our show about buying junk cars and getting them to run just for the hell of it. The budget is zero, as usual, and the cars just keep getting worse, haha.
This time we dug up a 1957 Plymouth Plaza 4 door sedan out of a local junkyard and thought we'd see what it would take to get it going for a drive around the yard. This beauty was scrapped in about 1968 after someone presumably couldn't get it to go anymore. It is in terrible condition, but almost everything is just the way it was when it was shut off way back when Nixon took office and the Stones released "Sympathy for the Devil". There were even parking tickets in the glove box and gum wrappers in the ashtray!
Well, let's see if we can get it to putt around again; she's definitely seen way better days, but maybe it'll come back to life to take Stella for a ride!
Thanks again to everyone for watching and subscribing! Cheers from all the Agents here at CWMC!
Well, we kinda blew the budget again... A timing chain and plugs pushed the repair bill close to a hundred bucks! Damn! Also; I ran out of camera memory during the compression test, but the numbers were something like 60, 70, 60, 50, 30, 30... ouch! Haha, no wonder it's kinda hard to start...
PS: Mr. Lee Perreault, your parking ticket is 47 years overdue...

I'm back from the future just to give Scott a thumbs up so that he'll get more of those TH-cam perks.

    Dear CWM Scott N.
👍👌👏 I just finished watching this great Plymouth video for the second time. I'm totally flabbergasted how much we all have changed since then. Is your neighbor Tom also in this video?
Best regards, luck and health to all of you.

After the original motor blew, they put the Dodge truck motor in, while doing so crossed plug wires, and jumped timing. Considering how complete everything was, they probably gave up and junked it after they couldn't get it running...after all it was over 10 years old from the last year plated...just a theory lol

I did a "will it run?" on a '36 Dodge. back in '74. The Chiltons showed the firing order, in rotation, and I plugged in the wires as it showed. The engine would run, but sounded like it was only firing on a few cylinders-compression showed ok-after a few days of double-checking the firing order, I discovered some fine print-the rotation was shown from the inside of the distributor cap, not the top! A quick swap of the wires, and off she went! The oil filter blew up, because the oil pressure valve, located in the side of the block, had stuck! Thanks to my friend Ray, at the local NAPA store, he told me about the valve, and how to remove it with a tap, threaded into the valve-finally got it on the road, but rust had gone too far, and a local gas station owner spotted it, and bought it to put in front of his station as advertisement.

This episode of the Plymouth was good.
I think what boys should be doing with these old cars, first get them running and steam clean the engine bay(s) clean up the exterior and interior fix dents etc and bad rust so that when all done you can advertise them with photos of a running driving car for someone to buy and do up, use the bits you have on others or find bits from other wrecks, and making sure the car is in good running order but keeping your spend LOW. This old Plymouth turned out great, surely somebody will want to buy it.

Stock compression (6.5:1) is supposed to be 110psi I think, 60 is pretty low. Must be why it's so hard starting.

The 52 engine explains a lot as I was surprised that Plymouth would have still been using flatheads in 57.

+Kenneth Southard Hi! Thanks for the note... Plymouth actually used those flathead sixes until 1960 when the slant six replaced them. Cheers from us here at CWMC!

I believe 1959 was the last year of the flatheads.
