Will it Run? Episode 20: 1953 Ford Customline! Part 3 of 3

  • Hey! We're back, still getting old junkers to run just for the hell of it. This time it's a 1953 Ford and the fabulous flathead V8! Looks like we've got it running well enough to try to take Stella for a ride around the farmyard here...
We didn't have to buy any new parts this time, so that's a success when the budget is zero. The fancy distributor machine sure saved some messing around, too.
I sure like the sound of this old V8; good thing too because it's loud as hell since the muffler rotted away many years ago. I was pretty happy to see the Ford fire up after sitting for decades, neglected out back in the trees. This nice, untouched car could definitely be saved and is worth doing; it will need welding to the floors and rockers, etc, but overall pretty good for a car nearing senior's-discount age...
I hope you enjoy the sights and sounds of the legendary flattie as we rip around the yard a bit... no brakes on this unit so we're staying off the streets for now, haha.
Thanks again to everyone who subscribed to our little channel, and for all of your "likes" and comments. I read all of them and really appreciate that anyone would take the time to fire us a note.
All the best from all of the Agents and me and my girl Stella! More on the way soon...

Nice to see it come back to life. The motor when rebuilt is probably worth more than the car as there's always a demand for flatheads out there.
I like what appears to be a 1952-54 Nash you have there. Cool !
Back in 1964-65 our neighbor's son, then 17-18 had one of these Fords. After driving it for a year he left for the Army and sold it for $75 but I was too young for a license just yet. Dang !!

My neighbor had a 53 with the flat head V8 and 3 on the tree, pink with a white roof. He let it sit, outside, all winter long but come summer, he would put the battery back in, and fire it up. 1 fall, an ice storm brought a tree limb down on it; severely dented the roof, but broke no glass. It was a very neat car, sounded good with glasspacks. Oh yes, btw, the hub cap is from a 69 Plymouth Fury III or VIP. I had a green sedan, same 1's.

The hubcap is from a 1969 fury 3 like mine. We had a 1954 Ford when I was a kid. It ran great until my mom creamed the quarter panel! It had an “engine turned” dash and a Speedo with a little window on top to let in light in the day time. My Fury runs great also although the 318 has to work pretty hard to move such a heavy machine.

Propably the rest of the world assumes that nearly all American automobiles run with a V8. Maybe because of the astonishing fact: Over 1 Billion !! engines have been produced to date!!

coldwarmotors you should keep this up. You are like my favorite channel. When I'm bored and have nothing to do I go to your channel and watch your videos. Honestly you should have WAY more subscribers than right now. And I'm pretty sure Stella likes it too. Cheers from michigan

Just as easy to shop for parts as a concurrent Chevy, and your local mechanic won't kill you when you need service. You get the key parts down at your local AutoZone.

No brakes? No problem. I drove the Merc for the first year with just the parking brake to stop with. Good work. The old flathead is sounding great.

Hey, thanks for the note; glad you liked the old flattie; I was really happy how easily it came back to life!
