Sega Saturn was great console, too bad @ the mid 90s, 3D games became mainstream which the hardware cannot handle.... And Saturn is not dev friendly, Sega just putting their Arcade experience into their console thought that would be great.. it was great for VR fighter, VR Cops, but hard for other development to create games for Saturn.. Another issue is Sega USA... I am saying that because I love Sega... but now Sega is like no longer exist....
Sega of America and Europe really messed up in the mid 90's, the Saturn was huge in Japan for a while though, all the best games stayed in japan. From what i've read Sega USA and JP really didn't get along, which ultimately let the cheaper Playstation clean house. I think Saturn 3d isn't bad - it's best games look great (Radiant Silvergun for example) it's a shame it didn't have a couple more years to really shine.
It is a myth Saturn couldnt handle 3D, you only have to look at how much better Powerslave (3D) is on Saturn compared to PS1. The truth is that is was difficult to program 3D games for because the hardware was complex, and as such required a higher skill level to get the most out of it.
