oh yeah, midi drums, that's a plugin
proceeds to JAM
the TALENT.
@Cody Fry you should, it sounds groovy! I’ve done it a couple of times, good fun!
@@CodyFry That's kinda Futureman Wooten's thing with the drumitar, right? If the Flecktones can do it, so can you!
Straight up did not expect that. So good.
I thought he’d pressed play on something laid down already until the camera cut in 😳
@@CodyFry SAME
YESSS I love that you and Cory Wong are doing more of these song breakdown videos (esp yours, as a logic user). MORE PLEASE!!!
I absolutely love the breakdowns!!
Are we not going to talk about that drum jam he just played on the keyboard...?
It's so good Chris !
Dude’s an effin savant!
Everything he does in this video is like wow, how does he come up with that??
Yet so humble to say that he's terrible at some things. Loving Cody Fry the moment i heard his stuff.
Absolutely insane! I looove these. Not going to lie, better is genuinely one of the best songs I've heard in my life. Good job on this breakdown.
I second every word of this!
I guess you could say, it’s one of the Better songs you’ve heard 😅
@@BhavnaM bahaha, I'm dying from this comment. Thanks🤣
@@PeterCleff I’ll be here all night folks 😁😁
Please, song Breakdown: Want Me Back & Falling In Love.
Yeah Cody!! This was a really cool look inside a very fun session. Thanks again for having me on the track!! Cheers, dude :)
"I'm terrible at mixing live drums"
Drums sound freaking great O_O
Cody, PLEASE breakdown "Underground." It's such an ethereal, unbelievable, out of this world song, man!
YESSSSSSSSSSSS 100%
I've listened to this song coming up on maybe 100 times or so in the last couple of weeks as well as the version where you're driving on pitch black roads. Love both versions, but nothing beats real musicians. Thanks again for taking the time to share some creative ways to add richness and subtle improvements into the mix.
Honestly man, I love your ethic. I wish it was more widespread across the industry. These videos are gold dust, thank you!
So great! Would love to see one of these for Want Me Back with Cory. That song is amazing.
This is one of the best songs i have ever heard in my life. Thank you, Cody.
Sending love from the Philippines! I hope someday I could watch you guys play this song live.
Cody, I first heard this track from the live in Amsterdam set. It caught me immediately and its only grown on me since then. I LOVE this track and everything else of yours I’ve heard. The energy and the passion in the music is so striking and infectious! Thank you for this detailed breakdown and all you do! I love it!
Breaking down an absolute BANGER! Thank you for sharing your process and wisdom with us.
I would like to appreciate the fact that you take a time to actually breakdown your amazing songs just for us!! Thank you Cody for that, not everyone does this, it is greatly appreciated by us!!
@@CodyFry 🙏🏼💯
3:35 Our soul band teacher always tells us "At home you learn your part, in rehearsal you learn the others" and I think that's really great advice dor everyone playing in a Band, or basocally playing with others.
I'm super happy for this breakdown so I can start saying "Josh on the Yamaha pan flute" instead of "my dude on the top keyboard" like I have been.
Better, Want Me Back and Golden are my top played songs of this year by far. They're next level! Why cant all songs be this good?! I've had a go at playing each of them on keys but didn't get too far. This is so helpful. Are you planning on doing more of these Cory Wong & Dynamo collaborations soon?
me encanta desde que la escuche !!!! saludos cody de Costa Rica !!!
The Synth Loop did the magic at the intro for me.
I’m literally always amazed when I hear You, Cory, and Ben’s music. Literally finding you guys a couple years back has legitimately taken me to another level in how I view music. 🔥
Such a smashing track!
I love 'Better' and 'Want me Back' - brilliant songs! You totally crushed it Cody and the videos are amazing!
Genuinely loved watching this. I used to do midi compositions back in the late 90s early 2000s for fun, this makes me appreciate the process even more! My wife is a HS band teacher, teaching virtually this semester, and things like this are fantastic tools to use as examples to get their minds going as independent musicians.
Your talent is obvious from your performances and the music itself but watching you break down the esoteric knowledge that goes into the arrangements and jamming out for fun along the way really shows just how high tier of a musician you are. Big fan Cody!!!!
That original piano solo at 7:40 is beautiful. I like what he did in the performance, but some of those fuller chords here are really nice.
Great breakdown of a killer song! This song and Want Me Back were my 2 top streamed songs on Spotify. If I had the power, this is what would be number 1 on the charts.
Love this song but I really Love Love the Live version with all the band and real instruments ! 👏👏👏😍😍😍 From France
you are literally a hero among us.
I love this video
These videos are crucial for the development of future musicians and the betterment of music as a whole. Thank you for putting the time into these!
This is a JAM!!! These breakdown videos are incredible! Also love the positivity and admiration that you give to the instrumentalists!
yes please! totally enjoy it. thanks for sharing all the wisdom about arrangements and band management I highly value it!
Plsss do this kind of video for want me back
Killer song!
Speechless !
One of the best song breakdowns I’ve ever seen!
great bassline
Magic Sound!
I'm from Brazil. And I accidentally found you on Spotify while looking for another artist with a similar name. I decided to listen to the flying album and I couldn't stop. Music production is phantasmagoric, A great reference for me.
Dude, you are a goddamn inspiration to musicians. I can't wait to see you rise to number one, you deserve it!
Cody thanks for breaking down all the parts!
Incredible arrangement and very inspiring tutorial. Thanks Cody!
Awesome!
YES YE SYES I'VE BEEN SO EXCITED FOR THIS
YES!!!!! I love these!!! Please do more they're so insightful!
Yes! I love this version!
I would love it if Rick Beato gave you a shout out. Your work is amazing!
Thanks for uploading these breakdowns Cody! It's really helping me arrange my own music and see how such brilliant tunes get put together. Much love from the UK!
I have been waiting for you to do a breakdown of this, yes! Thank you!
Dude, this is so awesome. I play this song on bass a couple times every week. This arrangement is killer!
You rock, man! I’ve been listening to your music non stop lately.
Super interesting great great work squire.
PLEASE DO MORE- and when you do full band, do it there too.
I'm so glad to know that you're still up in the game! keep crafting these masterpieces :)
Love this!! Please do Want Me Back next!
Great Work Cody!
YES. MOAR MOAR
My favorite version of this song by far! Digging these breakdowns
Just discovered your music. It's amazing, I honestly never hear anyone combining orchestral with vocals to the degree that you do (besides musicals, but they don't count). I love the breakdowns and also the couple of score videos you did a few years back! It's so unique , I love it! :)
Loved all the time I spent watching this video. This is one of my favorite song currently. I learnt a lot with you. Thank you very much!!
This is fantastic! Your music has such depth, and I appreciate seeing your process. Thank you so much!!
Such a beast arrangment bro. Loved these live videos!
Bravo
12:03 you're welcome
🤣
Warning. Stank face starts to develop around 7:14. LOL Seriously, Cody this is phenomenal! I love watching you breakdown your tunes!
That Yamaha SY77 pan-flute is like sweet nectar. Is that what was used on the MPLS version of Kids? That glide makes my spine tingle.
So happy you posted this!
Yes!! Faster TH-cam click of my life right here. I’ve been obsessed with this single since I discovered it, and it was incredible to see the breakdown of it!
You never fail to blend all different kinds of styles into your music, and I think that’s what I love the most. Seriously, thank you for this track.
How much convincing would it take you (and Cory and Dynamo for that matter) to do a full album? 😉
Amazing work, a very unique sound !
Awesome, thanks for posting.
I am late to the party, but, I love this arrangement! Thanks for sharing the method!
Once again, love this content. The concept of separating the low and high of the keys part is beautiful. I like doing something similar if I'm doing an acoustic guitar. Obviously not playing the low and high strings separately, but basically having a crossover to separate everything under 450Hz and everything above then throwing them left/right
Awsome song, congratulations!
Epic
Thanks for this video, Cody! Very very enlighting for the stuff I'm working on! Hope to play again some day with Cory & the Metropole! Greetz, also to your parents, Norman David Jansen (viola- MO)
Yes man! Insane to hear you arrange Ryan’s solo. That inspired me to interview him for DormInform!
Thanks Cody, this was super cool and interesting!
Absolutely love the video and the insight into your creative process! What keyboard(s) did you use for recording/do you have any keyboards you'd recommend?
This song was genius!
been waiting for this. Thanks for sharing. You da man
Love this bro! Could you do more of a breakdown on the BV parts? They crushed it. Would love to hear what parts were doubled, and which parts they chose
I’m a long time logic user any recommendations for good synth sounds, third party or native, I’m just dipping my feet into synth but love your sounds? I also have to say thanks so much for doing these breakdown videos. This song is so incredible, I have listened to it on loop since a buddy of mine turned me on to your music. Additionally this video is so helpful and entertaining for musicians, I’m sure session workers love the prep work you put in.
Dude this is insane, so helpful to get behind the process! How come you switch from Logic to ProTools?
Hey, Cody. Love learning from these song breakdowns and your tips. My question is a bit more general. You're obviously crazy musically talented as a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, composer, arranger, performer etc. What do you consider to be your strongest area as a musician and how do you balance these areas of musicianship?
I sometimes feel as a musician that I can be the jack of all trades and master of none, but I also want to be excellent.
Cody Fry thanks for responding. I’ll be sure to check out that book. It’s a good reminder to just have fun and keep learning. Also, I figured you would respond with arranging. I’ve remember searching choral pieces for Christmas and hearing demos thinking the orchestral arrangement sounded like you only to find that you did in fact arrange the instrumentals. Keep crushing it, man!!
Cody, you're great! I just wanted to ensure you. :D Have a nice day!
Love this video!⚡️Thanks cody 🙏🏽
Dig this track man! How many times did you guys take this song in studio and what take did you end up using?
@@CodyFryThanks for getting back to me! Follow up question, did you use different parts of different takes? And did you film each take? I only ask because I have a film company in South Africa and we also started doing live music videos, so I want to find out, in your opinion, what the best way is to approach these kind of videos :)
Did you take the live version off iTunes? I must have listened to this song 100 times! Absolutely fantastic. Thanks for sharing this. Ps the back ground vocals on this track are ridiculous!
Hi, Cody! Are the MIDI horns the ones from Logic, or are they 3rd party plugins?
Thank you!
Man, this is great! Love the song, love this breakdown! QUESTION: Did you write and arrange this knowing you were going to get roughly these guys in for this live version or did you just have the parts? Cheers 😁
(also do you think you'll one day do a breakdown of "That Thing that you do"?
SUPER COOL SONG. SAW TO THE LIVE VIDEO PROB A MILLLION TIMES. Next time maybe a one-hour version of these breakdown videos? 15 mins is simply not enough....like how you came up with particular parts....would be super cool and helpful for people like me thats just starting to produce music!! Thanks!
Heya man I was really curious what that cool mic effect was near the end of the chorus. The one you had on the left microphone. The song sounds huge!
So good!!!!! 🤯🔥💛
I love how you can play a convincing drum beat using a midi keyboard that's better than most drummers I've worked with...😂
You inspire me to become a better musician/producer/arranger 🔥
Cool !!! want to get scores for learning music!
Cooooooooool
