Great video. I have to question the "no Savage" - while I agree that their blued rifles leave questions, however they do offer other barrel finishes. A number of models under $700US. They are known to be accurate, lots of great features ( accutrigger, accustock, accufit) and a very solid aftermarket. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but I don't think it's fair to judge Savage Arms on their entry level Axxis. I believe the Savage Model 110 Storm is sub$700 US (I'm in Canada, so they all cost more here)
Great video but I'd love to see Savage get a fair shake

Ruger American is still a marvelous rifle at its price point, it’s not that the Ruger reputation is dwindling it’s that other have introduced budget rifles of similar quality as competition. Every one of these rifles shown is better then what was available 30 years ago for an entire months salary instead of just a few days to a week worth like they are now.

Rugers reputation is still the best economy gun brand. Quality is great for the price…unbeatable most of the time actually…
It’s just…you can’t compare budget to mid tier/top tier…cause there’s only so much you can manufacture with $300

Did research on rifles under $1k that I could buy for my first hunting rifle about a year ago or so. All roads lead me to CVA. Then I started looking at videos on YT about the CVA Cascade. Backfire did a review on it that helped me confirm my choice too. I bought a 6.5 CM and have been really happy with it so far. All my friends have shot it at the range and they love the factory trigger. I've gotten compliments on how nice it looks too in the CRKT Blued/Killik K2 Camo pattern I chose. I really enjoy these videos. I do want to make one statement that hopefully you will like for your viewers.
I bought a used Mossberg Patriot in 300WinMag. It kicks like a mule. I will eventually put a Muzzle Brake on it.
Anyway, I've been working up a load using Nosler 210gr. Accubond LR.
With a different bullets and powder combination, I could get a much better group.
With this combination I am getting .730 groups at 100 yards.
In any of my guns factory or my custom built, I've always had problems getting tight groups with the Accubonds.
Ballistic Tips, Berger or Sierra, I have no problem getting at least .500" out of them.
I may switch it up in the Mossberg Patriot just to see what I can do.
This is a very nice rifle for the money and works amazing. Hope it helps anyone who's curious about it.
    Thanks,
    Jeff D.

I bought a Mossberg Patriot Revere in 300 WM when I moved to Alaska a few years ago thinking it would replace my Mauser. But the accuracy at even 100 yards doesn't even come close to my Mauser. Using factory ammo I got 1.25 MOA with my mossberg patriots with the vortex crossfires that came on them. After upgrading the scope I consistently shoot .75 to 1.0 MOA at 100 yards. I have the gun in both 30-06 and 308. May be hit and miss on gun quality, could be I just found the ammo my guns like, but I seem to have gotten two different quality ones. I have had the 30-06 for almost 3 years and the 308 for a year.

Rustoleum spray paint works great on a Savage Axis barrell. Add a netting sleeve and use the camo color after the initial coat/ not removing the netting until it dries adds a good cosmetic touch& the rust problem is over.

What about the Browning AB3? I got the Hunter model with a walnut stock for just over $500. Shoots MOA, pretty lightweight and is much better built than the plastic junk like the Savage or Ruger. Browning doesn't sell throw-away rifles.
Also the Sauer 100 comes with a wooden stock and has the same build as the Mauser 18 but a lot better finish.

I learned from handloading if you want more accuracy ammo is the most important I got a like new savage 110 and it just couldn't group like my husqvarna could, I took up handloading and now at 100 yards with the same gun I can put shots threw the same hole

I figured CVA did something like buy the rights to the ThmpsonnCentdr design and update it. Looking at it more closely, I note that it has the "open" top ejection port of more traditional rifles. Very impressed and if I was in the market, I would look hard at their offering.

When I last checked Kimber's not even offering a Walnut Stock anymore, but still want too much. for the few styles they have left. I just started buying used Savage 110s and Stevens 200s with old style slotted lock nuts and ordering new barrels for them, then slapping on Timney triggers. I try to get blind magazines then I don't have to worry about cheap plastic magazines. I kinda like the Bergara B-14 Timber (only for the Walnut) but would not consider any of the rest you have there. DO not want a threaded muzzle, but to each his own. If I can't build my old Savages, I'll just hold out for the Winchester Model 70 Featherweights. Or order a semi-custom MkVII from Shaw.

I do like these videos. “Cheap” rifles can, and do, shoot well, and some just don’t cut it. I had feeding issues with my Ruger American 22-250, antil I worked out that you have to rack it like it owes you money; don’t be nice to it, and it’s OK, but it can be a bit of a Treasure Hunt picking up your brass. Cheers from Down Under

I gave my brother a Mauser M18 chambered in 30.06 and he loves it. Its dead accurate and with the Vortex scope I put on it that gun shoots as well as the Remington 700 I had. I have a Howa 1500 chambered in .308 and much like the Mauser it too shoots really well. I put the same Vortex scope on it as my brothers 30.06 which is a pretty good combo for under $1500.00.

I find myself watching your videos regularly I can honestly say that I think you’re doing a very good job. I enjoyed your podcast with Ron.. I own a Proof Reserch Tundra, which I absolutely love Shooting. However that rifle is now $7700 I believe. It is an incredible shot with hand loads that were created for me. I’ve done some .02 inch groups.(honestly Factory 143ELDX is less than a quarter of an inch behind in grouping)Probably more to do with the rifle. I have recently been talking to Hill, country rifle,‘s here in Texas. They have a rifle that they build off the tikka action. I would like this rifle chambered in 7 mm PRC. They guarantee their rifles 1/2 MOA or better with factory ammo. I find this pretty amazing. I do know people rather two people that own them and enjoy them. Could you give me any insight that you may know on the company and or rifle? It would be the Huntsman with a 20 inch benchmark barrel, number five contour. .(The 22 inch carbon fiber Proof is probably 3 1/2 to 4 months out, and I would like to take this on a Odad hunt on 1 June). This one would not be built on the defiance action, that one is roughly the same price as the Proof Reserch. I’ve learned a lot about this Tika action through you and others and it looks to be very good. This will be a $4700 rifle with no scope. I would like your professional opinion or what I consider a professional opinion from you if you don’t mind. Thank you in advance. T

the first rifle i bought was a standard ruger american about 10 years ago if not more, and i have had 0 issues with it. i have used it a ton and have had a pellet gun scope on it the whole time. i get sub .5 moa at 100 yards. prolly my most accurate and reliable rifle still today. no upgrades. only thing i can say that is a negative is that during hunting season it can rust quite fast if you don’t take care of it when it’s cold and wet outside.

Im quite happy with my Mauser M18 Waldjagd edition. I dont think they sell it in the States but its a M18 with an improoved trigger and a 51cm semi weight barrel. It is heavy and the weight distribution is pretty off but thats all i can citicise for a gun in this price bracket. Also comes with a nice deep green stock. To bad it rarely sees daylight since i got my be all, end all hunting rifle the Blaser R8 Ultimate. The R8 is nice and light with 52cm standard weight barrel and it shoots 0.25moa all day. Straight pull, insanely ergonomic stock. Highly recommended.
