For you to make it a hit like on the radio you'll have to go to the songwriter and get the permission. And he would have to listen to it decide if he can make any money off you. With you guys singing the song and a rock version which doesn't sound all that much difference from the beginning period most writers make money off their songs all superstars singing period and already have a fanbase.
