It was always implied in the song anyway. The storm is a metaphor, he’s using it as a contextual representation of a climactic build up. Without the last verse, you’re left on a cliff hanger with no resolution to the story.

I'm one of those "I hate country music but..." people, and I used to put this one in the jukebox in Waffle House back in the early 90s when I was young and staying out all night. Clicked out of curiosity, stopped it at 0:48 to go make sure nobody was going to interrupt me for the next fifteen minutes, came back and restarted and listened to it three times. Sometimes you just know a song's going to be so epic you'll be pissed all day if someone makes you pause it on the first listening.

I first listened to this song as a child and thought it was just a song about a cool thunder storm. Hearing this as an adult and actually listening to the lyrics makes it a much sadder song.

I’ve long since had a thing for good covers and I simply noted this is one of the better ones I’ve heard in my opinion. Shinedown’s rendition of Simple Man is also in my opinion about the best cover song EVER done by anyone. I’d also note both Metallica’s and Dave Fenley’s versions of Turn The Page in your list. They’re both incredible. I’ll include Higher Love by Charming Horses as well. Trust me on this man, I’ve heard a metric fuckton of covers and many of which I’ve enjoyed a lot. But they are of my personal opinion, so I’ll respect that of your own in your comment. Bottom line is, every decent to amazing cover song is an homage to the original in it’s popularity and enjoyment. All respectable in that regard

They need to redo this and include the 3rd verse. You would think being they are a rock/metal band they would have included the 3rd verse for this song. I love metal and listen to plenty of bands with screaming/distorted vocals but I was pleasantly surprised and loved that the chorus was kept clean. I have no shame admitting I was a huge Garth Brooks fan from about ages 11 to 14 in the 90's and this was is my favorite song of his, this was done nice 🤘
