Blake Shelton's original song and video of "God's Country" has always been kick ass to me....the visual representation of events during the "dust bowl" coupled with modern day farming struggles really strikes the heart. In light of all we have seen and suffered over the past two plus years, in my opinion, this cover not only keeps the heart of the original song/video alive but it also adds in the modern day COVID scenario and highlights just a fraction of those that keep EVERYTHING running. (I personally think of Farmers, Truckers, Healthcare Workers, State Employees, Law Enforcement, Military, and many many more.).

A few years ago, a close friend, a fellow co worker, always smiling and laughing, full of life, came to work, nothing out of the ordinary…took her lunch break, went home, never returned…found that she had taken her own life by shooting herself in the heart, leaving a note saying “her heart was broken”…no one had a clue anything was wrong…we need to be less critical, less judgmental, more caring, more understanding and most of all more Aware…we never know what someone’s going through on the other side of a locked door…she was only 22, bought her first gun at 21 and used it…😢 the voices in this song are amazing, lyrics definitely head the nail on the head!!!

Born and raised deep in those mountains and I thank god everyday I have those memories to look back on. If you’re from that area you know damn good and well what I’m talking about. It's about grit, it's about hard, grit-trying work, it's about the stress and dealing with hardships of the things that could very well make or brake your living entirely.
