Kareem didnt only utilize one offensive manuver during any stage of his storied career ,during his prime athletic years he was a multifaceted , offensive juggernaut, from 15 foot jump shots , post up turnaround jumpers ,cross over ,leaving defenders standing like they were stuck in quick sand ,post up reverse spin moves ,end resulting with dunks ,beating opposing defenders down court for fast break dunks ,bank shots jumpers galore ,google kareem prime yrs 1970-76 and witness his incredible artistry. The nba and sports media imprinted the vision into the mind of folks that kareem possessed merely a skyhook as a weapon by only showing the montage of him using the skyhook on magazines ,commercials etc which ironically did a disservice to Kareem Abdul Jabbars legacy because it erased / ignored his complete offensive package . In order for him to be in position to actually utilize his patent skyhook ,he had to incorporate alternate weapons to be a counter manuver when individual and multiple defenders attempted to take the skyhook weapon away . To suggests he was only a skyhook would be like stating Michael Jordan and shaq were only using dunks . Kareem Abdul Jabbar was a magnificent athlete who could deplore varous offensive skill sets to offset defenses who's tactical scheme was to minimize the skyhook .

Even more incredible is that he did a full four years of college (freshman team, as required by the NCAA in those days and then 3 years of varsity) before his 20-year career in the NBA! After graduating from UCLA in 1969, he then played in the NBA from 1969 until 1989. He won an NBA Finals MVP in 1985, at the age of 38! He was a winner at every level of basketball. His high school team was 79-2 during Kareem's tenure on the team. At UCLA, his freshman squad beat the two-time defending national champion varsity team by 15 points in the annual freshman vs. varsity pre-season game. The UCLA Freshmen went 21-0 that year. The next year, Kareem's first year on the varsity team, he scored 56 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in his first varsity game. His college record was 88-2, and Kareem's 3-year varsity team experience at UCLA resulted in three national championships. He was named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Final Four each of those years, as well as National College Player of the Year each of the three years he played varsity. So, from high school through college, Abdul-Jabbar was 188-4 before he suited up for an NBA game. His NBA career speaks for itself, with 6 NBA Championships, 2 Finals MVPs, 6 regular season MVPs, and 19 all-star appearances. He was All-NBA 15 times, and All-NBA-Defensive 11 times. College basketball made it against the rules to dunk the basketball after his first year on the varsity squad, a rule change that was a transparent attempt to try to compensate for his dominance of the game. Without making a three-point shot, he was the record holder for total points scored in the NBA for over 30 years.
I would like for someone to tell me, with a straight face, why Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is never part of any serious conversation about the G.O.A.T. in the NBA.

I have one issue with this report. Calling the sky-hook „simple“ misrepresents how much skill and training this shot required. How difficult it is to master. You need good positioning, excellent footwork, you need to do it with both hands to be effective. There is a reason why no one else used it as their staple and money shot. It is freaking hard.

I'm now 64yrs old and my first shot I learned how to shoot was a😢 sky hook rather inside or out side, other guys I grew up with couldn't understand how this was possible but I did it from about age 9 to 13 or 14 when my jump shot first developed.Kareem was the reason for my shooting a hook shot when I was a boy, however know one remembers it from the many battles on the Basketball court in baltimore maryland on the school yard located Hoffman and Kenhill street on the east side. However at 50yrs old I played my last game under the whistle and my last shot made was a skyhook.

@WhoJeanTaw I didn't make any difference WHO threw him the ball (PG, SG, SF, PF). Just get it to Kareem and get out of the way.
Oscar never led the NBA in assists playing with Kareem, Magic never led the NBA in assists without Kareem. Neither won rings without him. If Pete Maravich is on the Lakers when Kareem arrives, he has at least one Title.

    • @WhoJeanTaw
      @WhoJeanTaw หลายเดือนก่อน

@JAWrightonline did he win a title without a top 75 pg? He had a looong career, so he should have had at least one. Oh right. None.
It DOES make a difference WHO threw him the ball because he had 1 title courtesy of bringing the big O from the Kings and 5 after drafting Magic, which coincidentally is the number of titles Magic has on his resume. So if you're going to use that argument - check his circumstance as well.
But i will give Kareem this, he is the NBA's all time leading scorer till now with lesser 3 pointers (1) and College eating at least three years of his career (hence starting a little late).

@TyroneNBAFan you subtracted how many 3's he's made not how many points those 3's are worth 2,410 3 pointers is 7,230 points take that away from his regular season total and that is 40,474 minus 7,230 points means without the 3 point line he has 33,244 points total in the regular season GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT YOU IDIOT OR DON'T POST AT ALL

really? Destroyed him?? scored 2 points a game more in the finals. He did out rebound him by a fairly large margin though but he from far destroyed him....

@@johnnythekid4601I wonder how the same people who trash Kareem for being outplayed by Moses in the finals when he was 36 will turn around and give Hakeem a free pass for getting smashed like a bug by Shaq in the 99 playoffs when he was 36?? All I heard was poor Hakeem was just too old. Kareem could never hide behind excuses like Hakeem. You see the double standard??

That's garbage, he had more than one move. He had many moves he could play defense rebound run the court.

Not only that, but he developed his hook shot much earlier as a ridiculously tall twelve year old playing against grown men. His autobiography Giant Steps goes into detail on this; as a young person thrust into pickup games in NYC, he said that the skyhook was the only thing he could do that wouldn’t get thrown right back into his face by his stronger opponents. This all just meant that he was not going to be hurt by the NCAA outlawing the dunk in ‘67.

Prime Kareem in the ‘70s was great… BUT he truly didn’t have elite HOF centers playing against him. Sure, he played against an old Wilt. And some other very good centers. But not against prime HOF centers like Olajuwon, Robinson, Shaq, or even a prime Wilt and Russell. Despite having a great advantage during the ‘70s, Kareem only won 1 ring in 1971.

EVERYONE IS DUMB... Kareem gets so much love for the Sky Hook... WHO THE FUCK SHOOTS A FINESSE SHOT WHEN YOU ARE 7 FEET 3 INCHES & THE BEST ATHLETE ON THE COURT (he could run, he had great balance, he good jump)... without Magic Johnson, Kareem lost to 2nd Round Pick Shorty Gus Williams in '78 & '79 playoffs... Kareem is like Queen in that they chose to be finesse players when the obviously correct route was to be a power player relentlessly attacking the rim like Shaq & MJ... Kareem & Queen did not want to do the hard work of bangin' by the basket (6-5 Charles Barkley wasn't scared), and thus obviously not better than MJ and i would argue Olajuwon was better than both of them (The Dream beat Kareem in '86 when the Lakers were loaded with 2 more #1 overall draft picks Magic/Worthy)... why everyone praises a finesse move from a 7-3 guy can only be explained by everyone being dumb... fax!!!

You're an ignorant hater. As far as Jordan attacking the rim? When you went whining and crying to David Stern about the Pistons, he didn't have to worry about getting hit, much less breathed on, again.
Shaq had no choice but to attack the rim. He couldn't shoot. Anything beyond five feet was out of his range.

Using only one shot is a lie. The skyhook was his signature shot a undefendable Kareem had skills. If you're old enough to watch him play you shouldn't have any comments
