I'm quite biased but nothing compares to Jack Link's beef jerky. But then again Jack Link's beef jerky is made 25 miles away from where I live so freshness is King here. Plus if you have a good idea for a beef jerky flavor they might actually purchase the recipe from you.
I’m genuinely surprised they did Baby Ray’s Jerky before the sauce. They are very different, but both create a great experience and I’m convinced everyone has something they would love between the two
3:15 Jerky was originally designed to preserve meat without salt. Basically a wooden grill was made where the meat (cut in thin slices, usually bison) was smoked for a period of time. It was used a survival tool to be satiated while traveling across the US or whilst hunting. Generally eaten by reconstituting it's original form in soup or porridge. Jerky resurfaced as flavored jerky during the US' sprint towards the abundance age when trucking became a profession. Now we generally enjoy it on long road trips in the states (truckers still eat them too).
Sweet Baby Rays barbeque sauce is the BEST!! If you can get it in Ireland, buy it!!! And we all know that the guys are watching simply for Blaithin's bosom. When ya got .........flaunt it! You go girl!!
The big brands of American jerky tend to be like this, pretty soft and easy to chew. Thanks to preservatives they last about as long as the traditional drier kinds that can wear out your jaw. You can still get some of those traditional kinds here but they're usually in smaller vacuum sealed packets made by smaller mom and pop brands. Some of them do weird varieties if you go to the right store. Venison jerky, alligator jerky, snake jerky, bison jerky, etc.
@@TheTRYChannel they have them in several Southern States. Plenty of booze, plenty of snacks and supplies for after it's gone over, in case the power goes. When I was in Dub last (January), it was the year that one hit the west coast at LaHinche, sending waves over the seawalls and the roomfs of the 3 story houses across the street.
History lesson and fun fact: Native Americans invented jerky as a way to preserve the meat they had for later by cutting it into small strips, adding salt to it, and smoke it in a specially designed hut. They would bring it with them on hunts as a snack incase it was a long hunt so that they wouldn't starve to death. European settlers would later adopt the same methods and add spices to the meat to make it more palettable.
OMG I'm American and haven't seen Sweet Baby Ray's jerky! Must find some! That sauce is the only BBQ sauce I'll buy now. I might be Texan, and it's not really a Texas BBQ sauce but it's SOOOoooo GOOD.

They had a huge pile of packages and man I did get my moneys worth that day fo sho
SBR barbecue sauce is the only kind in my house! It beats all the others for flavor. When i make meatloaf, in it goes. I put it on fried egg sandwiches and a bit on macaroni and cheese. Mix SBR with mayo and use it on fried fish instead of tartar sauce. Awesome!
I don't really use salt when making jerky. I just marinate it over night and then cook it on low for 6 hours (160) in my air fryer. I use bottom round as you want zero fat and freeze for an hour to "slightly" solidify before slicing on a meat slicer. All kinds of flavors can be used. Sweet Baby's Rays is a go to BBQ sauce but I've only used the original.
Sweet Baby Rays is one of the best commercial sauces out there if not the best. The only ones I have seen top it are those little craft sauces that are only made in house at some small restaurants.

Bridgeford is my FAVORITE brand of jerky. It's the best. The Teriyaki is harder because it's got a ton of salt in it. It turns the meat tougher and soaks all that moisture out. I do agree the Teriyaki needs a bit more pungent flavor and less salt.

Preservitive? The whole point of jerky is to preserve meat. Thats what it was made for.
Yeah, it’s hard for the mom & pop butchers / slaughterhouses to make money selling jersey because it requires so much meat just to make a small bag.
Venison is the best meat

To correct MC, you don't make Jerky by salting, you dehydrate it with a low heat in an oven.
Or, a hot air dehydrator. We love using ours.
As an ammendment to this, salt drying is often times used to make jerky, but as a preliminary drying step in preparation for the main drying in the oven. if you're using heat then you're cooking it not making jerky. Proper jerky is dehydrated using air with no heat.
